Located in downtown Marquette on the second floor of the Wattsson & Wattsson Marketplace Building, customers are able to find all their saltwater tank needs right here locally. They are currently the only store in the entire UP that will offer sustainable accessed fish and corals. and special order those hard to find freshwater species.

UP Reef was founded by Marquette born and raised, Jeff Larson, and his wife, Candice Blackstone-Larson.

UP Reef initially started as a side business through saltwater hobbyist talk. A couple of years ago Larson’s name started spreading throughout the community. He started participating in the local “fragswap” here in Marquette selling his coral frags. He also started maintaining tanks for people when they went out of town, selling pre-mixed salt water, and ended up offering education and insight to people seeking to dive into owning a saltwater tank. As he started sharing his knowledge and passion, his customers shared that they were tired of having to drive to Green Bay and Chicago to buy their tanks supplies and saltwater fish and corals. They wanted a local option to purchase high quality items for their tanks. It was during this time that the idea of having a storefront started to take seed. Larson is no stranger to the life of the retail world as he worked at Casualties for almost the entirety of their existence. Larson, is completely self-taught in the world of salt water tanks. He grew up with freshwater tanks, and at the age of sixteen he bought his first saltwater tank - and was hooked. The colors, the self sustainable environment, the corals, the fish, the calm that a tank can bring to any environment - all of it. He’s had a variety of saltwater tanks ranging from nano to Large reef tanks, and is one of the most knowledgable individuals in the UP.

UP Reef’s desire is to serve clients that have tanks in their homes, and businesses that want to create a space for tanks in their offices or lobbies.
