Stillwaters Supper and Songs

Stillwaters Supper and Songs Once a month (usually on a Saturday) we started with a free potluck supper (usually at 6 pm). ALL MONEY supports the performers. Questions?

The Stage at Stillwaters hosts Concerts and Workshops and Private Events (No more potluck suppers due to the pandemic) You are welcome to bring your own picnic or pick up something in Marshall to support local eateries (just 3 miles away). BEFORE the pandemic...Supper and Songs was a concert series hosted by Stillwaters Foundation volunteers Mary Shapiro, Jeff Wolf and friends to "build community

and create Peace through Music". And sometimes we had an open mic (a chance to share your stories and songs) before or after or on a totally different date. PROFESSIONAL PERFORMERS stepped on The Stage at Stillwaters and tickets were available on line or at the door. Kids (under 10) are free, and polite pets on leash were welcome when we were outdoors (April to Oct). Big beautiful event tents still provide shelter so the shows go on rain or shine. NOW...events are few and details for each are posted. Call Mary at 540-364-1739. We still look forward to seeing old friends and making new! P E A C E through Music

It has been a long dry spell for many musicians and as a result it has also been a long dry spell for venues like Stillwaters. But..... Stillwaters Supper and Songs is starting to function again. Tomorrow evening, Saturday, October 12th, we are opening a recording session of Paul and Cheryl Weisler to the public in the Supper and Songs tradition. This is a limited number of seats and we only have a few left. The pot luck supper will be at 5:30 with the concert/recording session starting at 7:00. Stillwaters Studios has wanted to record these two for over 2 years and now the time is here. Sorry about the late notice, I have not been on Facebook for a couple of years and didn't think to let you all know. Sorry, don't be offended, just send an email to [email protected] and let us know you are coming. That's it for now.

A note to me--and all, with her permission :)--from Mary Thorne:

Hi Mary,
I enjoyed returning to Supper and Songs after a long (I didn't realize how long) absence. It is always a nice evening of music and fellowship.

Below is my spinach/peanut butter dish from last night. It is adapted from a recipe from the Central African Republic. These are the quantities I used for the potluck though I may have added some extra peanut butter.
2 large onions
3 Tbsp. oil
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 packages frozen spinach
2 tsp salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper
8 Tbsp. natural peanut butter

In a heavy skillet or stew pot, saute onions in moderately hot oil until golden. Stir in tomatoes and cook until very soft. Add water if necessary. Add spinach, salt and cayenne. Cover and simmer until spinach is cooked. Add water if necessary. Thin peanut butter with warm water to make a smooth paste. Add the peanut butter when everything else is almost fully cooked. Continue cooking another 10-15 minutes so flavors can blend. Again, add water if necessary and stir regularly to keep the stew from sticking to the pot.

The weather is promising to be perfect for Saturday nights performance of Orpheus Jazz at Stillwaters Supper and Songs.

Looks like the weather is going to be perfect for the SHAWNA CASPI concert this Saturday evening, Temperature in the mid to upper 70's with no rain. May get a little cool by the end so you may want to bring a sweater or light jacket or someone to snuggle with. My wife prefers the latter.
Peace through Music,
Jeff

Carole brought an unusual activity to the last Stillwaters Supper and Songs, 5/21/17 You never know what you are going to hear or see at the open mic. It is truly an open mic or open fun. In the bubble is our friend Scott Johnston with Bingo the clown encasing him in a rainbow. Absolutely a unique experience.
