Searcy County Humane Society

Searcy County Humane Society Our Mission is to care for unwanted and abandoned Dogs by placing them on a path to loving caring homes. Our Shelter intake last year was 192 Dogs.

And to educate the Public about responsible Humane pet care and over population thru social media and by providing Veterinary Clinics to our area! And Last year (2023) our shelter had a 98.44 percent success rate on Dogs getting adopted. This is calculated by number of dogs that lost their lives to old age (3) by number of dogs that were adopted in county and out of county (192) and then we X that

number by 100. This year we are on track to have an even higher percentage saved. The 3 older Dogs that are free now where ethnized when the veterinarian deemed their quality of life was not good due to blindness, strokes, and arthritis. We strive to save all but we will not let Dogs suffer in pain when it is time to let go. We are adding these statistics for Compleat transparency in our practices.

We need to talk about something:
We reserve 80 percent of the spay neuter appointments for Searcy County residents! The other 20 percent goes to outside the county because places like Clinton Walmart and other business have donated to our shelter!
Also I have to have 100 percent appointments filled in order to keep our Fiddo Fixer mobile unit coming to our county. You see they all drive from Eureka Springs to serve our county!!!
Please understand we are trying to do the right thing for Searcy County!
We love it here!

Here it is the first of the year and we have exciting news!
742. !!!!!!!!
That's how many SPAYED/NEUTERED
DOGS AND CATS WE Searcy County Humane Society DID IN 2024!!!!
Searcy County Humane Society held them at Searcy County Civic Center, Leslie Community Center and the Buffalo Airport!!!! Thank you to these places that donated their space to us. Thank you to Good Sheperd Humane Society and Bissell Pet Foundation for supplying the van and veterinarians... Searcy County Humane is all volunteers(non paid), Non profit and run only on donations. All our new signs where donated by board members (un-paid).
Because of this we where able to save more Dogs and help them find loving homes!!! Almost double what we've done in years past.
This also put so many (742) pets on the right track! When you have unwanted liters and you hand those litters out and they have more unwanted pups and kittens then we have a problem...
Over 600,000 euthanasia in 2023 year alone...
Please get your pets fixed-give them the love they need and maybe one day we will stop the killing of innocent lives.

Our shelter will be closed to all intakes until the end of March, and closed to adoptions for the next 2 weeks at least.
The health and welfare of our dog's and pups are foremost on our minds. We are taking precautions at this point to keep them all safe.
Please have all your animals up to date on all shots. This goes double for pups that do not have immunity. Your dog's can carry viruses to other animals and this could result in useless expense and even death of our beloved animals.
We will repeat this one more time. Run to your veterinarian and get all shots to protect your animals!
We will report when we are back open and please say a prayer for all our volunteers. They have a big Job at our shelter and it just got a whole lot bigger and more expensive because of someone that did not vaccinate their animals.
Thank you for your prayers and time Searcy County and beyond!
