Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown The ARL of Marshalltown provides a safe haven for lost and homeless companion animals

The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown was created in 1948 to provide housing and care to homeless companion animals in the community. Over the last 70 years the shelter has adopted over 30,000 pets into new homes and reunited over 10,000 pets with their families. Through the generous support of the community the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown will continue to be a safe haven for animals for many more decades.

It has come to this author’s attention that the most eligible creatures in town are not found in the ballrooms of Mayfair, but rather at the local animal shelter in Marshalltown. Dear readers, do not miss your chance to adopt a companion more loyal than any suitor and more loving than any debutante. - Lady Snifferton

Hi everyone, my name is Peony, and I am the last of my litter waiting for a forever home. My sisters were adopted, but I’m still here, a 1-2 year old Griffon. I was rescued from a park and now I’m looking for a loving family. Could it be you?

Fun Fact Friday:
The popular phrase, “raining cats and dogs” originated from England in the 17th century. It was believed that many cats and dogs died during these heavy storms. Others believe it’s linked to Norse mythology, where cats symbolize wind and dogs represent storms. So next time it pours, remember it's not just a downpour—it's a bit of history!

Is your pet's microchip up to date? Tag on collar? Consider keeping pets indoors at night around the 4th of July to help them feel less frightened by all the noise. Shelters always get a lot of "stray" calls after the 4th because many pets run in fear of all the noise. Let's make this holiday fun and safe for everyone!

Fun Fact Friday:

Has your cat/kitten ever made a weird face after smelling something? It turns out this has a name! It is called the flehmen response.

Flehmen response happens when your cat is analyzing a new or strange smell but instead of doing so through the nostrils, they are "scent-sucking" through the roof of their mouth. Fascinating, right? 🐱

This poor pup was hit by a car on Lincoln Way on ramp to hwy 30. Covered in fleas and ticks and very under weight. He has been nothing but a total sweetheart. No broken bones but severely bruised ribs and potentially a torn ligament in a back leg. He has a long road to recovery but is in good hands. We named him Wyatt, cause it means brave and strength. And that is what he has shown us so far. If you have been waiting for the right time to volunteer as a foster or wanted to donate towards his medical bills now is the time. We will do our very best to keep everyone up to date on his progress. We are all here for you Wyatt!!
