The ARL of Marshalltown provides a safe haven for lost and homeless companion animals

The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown was created in 1948 to provide housing and care to homeless companion animals in the community. Over the last 70 years the shelter has adopted over 30,000 pets into new homes and reunited over 10,000 pets with their families. Through the generous support of the community the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown will continue to be a safe haven for animals for many more decades.

OUR KIX CRITTER OF THE WEEK IS STARLET!! Starlet is a sweet kitten who came in with a fractured jaw. The vets were here on the day she came in and took her back to the clinic. Flehmen response happens when your cat is analyzing a new or strange smell but instead of doing so through the nostrils, they are "scent-sucking" through the roof of their mouth. Fascinating, right? 🐱

This poor pup was hit by a car on Lincoln Way on ramp to hwy 30. Covered in fleas and ticks and very under weight. He has been nothing but a total sweetheart. No broken bones but severely bruised ribs and potentially a torn ligament in a back leg. He has a long road to recovery but is in good hands. We named him Wyatt, cause it means brave and strength. And that is what he has shown us so far. If you have been waiting for the right time to volunteer as a foster or wanted to donate towards his medical bills now is the time. We will do our very best to keep everyone up to date on his progress. We are all here for you Wyatt!!

Meet Polly, a gentle 9-year-old grey cat who is facing her final chapter alone. Found as a sick stray in april, Polly has fought hard to recover but now needs a hospice foster to provide her with love and comfort in her last days. This polydactyl sweetheart has so much affection left to give. Can you be the one to hold her paw through this journey? 🥺

Blossom is an 11 month old, female, grey and white cat. She has been with us since September of last year. She came in with her sister flower who came in as a strays that were never claimed. FUN FACT FRIDAY: It is the eve of 4/20 and you put cookies out for Snoop Dogg but your furry gets in your stash! Here are some helpful tips on what to do if they do: Pet Poison Helpline: 800.213.6680 ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center: 888.426.4435 ***The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown does not promote the use or possession of illegal substances but if you plan to leave brownies for Snoop Dogg, here are some helpful tips for your furries*** 1) Figure out what your pet ingested 2)Don't wait for symptoms to start, treat him yourself right away or get him to a veterinarian. 3) If you choose to treat your precious pooch or kitty at home, give him activated charcoal orally. Activated charcoal traps toxins as they move through the digestive system. 4) Keep them warm and in a dark, quiet place, and have fluids ready if he's able to drink a little bit 5) If they aren't showing signs of improvement, or getting worse, take him to the vet right away. 6) Be honest with your vet. Vets are not obligated to report marijuana poisoning and they need to know what is going on properly to treat your fur baby. 7) Stay calm. Animals with marijuana poisoning rarely die. Just be a good owner, speak in a soothing voice and let them know you are there for them. 8) keep your stash in a safer place

Herbert arrived at our shelter in March, hopeful that his owners would come for him. Sadly,they never did. However, Herbert didn’t let that dampen his spirits! This week, Herbert showed us a little bit of his true colors. Initially timid and refusing to eat, he is now full of personality, as you can see in our video. Herbert is eagerly seeking a foster home where he can continue to grow and receive the personalized care he deserves.
