Marshfield Area Pet Shelter

Marshfield Area Pet Shelter More than 700 animals enter our facility every year. Help us help them. Please donate! The majority of animals entering our facility are strays.

Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, Inc is a private non-profit animal welfare organization with a seven member Board of Directors. We have four full-time employees who cover 7 day a week shifts from 7am to 8pm. Other shelters comparable to the size of our shelter generally have approximately 10-13 employees. But thanks to the dedication of 40+ volunteers, we are able to provide daily care to more than 7

00 animals every year. We have contracts with local municipalities to house stray dogs and cats while we attempt to locate their owners. The following municipalities pay us to provide this service: City of Marshfield, Village of Spencer, Townships of McMillan, Richfield, Lincoln and Rock. If an owner does not come forward to reclaim their pet, the animal is then spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and place up for adoption. Other animal intakes include pets taken into custody by law enforcement, stray dogs and cats from non-contracted areas, owner pet surrenders and pets transferred in from other organizations. Animal intakes other than our contracted areas are dependent on the amount of space we have available at our facility. We proudly follow the Shelter Medicine’s guidance for Capacity for Care. A waitlist is available for when space opens up. All animal shelters are overwhelmed and overcrowded. The number of pet surrender requests continues to increase and hundreds of strays are found every year. Pet overpopulation has increased significantly. The only solution to this dilemma is to facilitate more low cost spay and neuter options, implement TNR efforts and educate people on the importance of spaying and neutering! As Marshfield’s first animal welfare organization, we are transforming the way our community views animals and animal welfare. Our future goals include innovative education programs for the public and investments in outreach, advocacy and affordable spay/neuter options for the Marshfield area. State Kennel License #492209

Hi, I'm Curiosity and I'm about a year old! I came to the shelter with my four beautiful babies, but I'm ready to retire from motherhood. I adore people, and I do pretty well with other cats, as long as they recognize that I'm a total boss girl! Not to mention that I'm gorgeous with a sweet personality. If you're looking for an affectionate young lady to add to your family, then I'm the girl for you! Apply for a visit! πŸ˜ΊπŸ’• www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/adopt

Our hearts are breaking for Bandit, but we're not giving up hope. After last week's Bandit post, we finally received a couple applications and we were SO excited! We contacted the applicants right away with great anticipation of his first visit! One of the applicants didn't realize their apartment building had breed restrictions, so that app was off the table. A second one arranged an appt to meet Bandit last Friday. All of us, including Bandit, anxiously awaited their arrival. 15 minutes past the scheduled appt time, we began to get nervous. 30 minutes later the disappointment set in and the person was a no call, no show. It was heartbreaking. πŸ’”

For his NINTH post, we're still waiting for applications, but we are also looking for a foster home for Bandit. He needs to get out of the shelter for a while. If you have no other pets in your home and you would like to spend time with a sweet dog for a doggie sleepover, we'd love to hear from you. πŸ‘‰ Working Cat! πŸ‘ˆ

Meet Whitley! He came to us as a stray and he is about a year old. He's had limited interaction with humans and he really doesn't enjoy us touching him. We feel he would be more comfortable and thrive as a shop or barn kitty where he can get attention when he decides he wants it. If you're looking for a handsome pest control expert, then apply at www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/working-cats

There is no fee to adopt a working cat.
All cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ear tipped.

Margot and Blanchette are beautiful 7-month-old puppies who need understanding and patient adopters. Rescued from an Amish breeding operation, they arrived with very little prior human interaction, making them quite fearful of the world around them.

While these girls are incredibly sweet, they're easily startled. We've spent nearly a month working with them, and they've made progress, but they'll need a special person or family who truly understands their unique personalities. They will thrive with time, patience, and a calm environment.

We're hoping to find them homes where they can blossom. It's important that Margot and Blanchette are adopted separately, as we believe their codependency on each other could hinder their individual progress. However, they both absolutely love other dogs and will benefit greatly from being adopted into a home with an existing canine companion who can help them learn and build confidence. πŸ’•πŸΎ

Our Story

Located in Marshfield, Wisconsin, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization serving the greater Marshfield area. MAPS moved into a brand new state-of-the-art facility located at 3500 Downwind Dr (behind Slumberland and across from Wildwood Animal Hospital) on August 20, 2020. Due to covid-19, we do not have open hours for visiting our adoptable animals. Appointments can be scheduled to meet our adoptable pets once we receive an approved adoption application.

We began our lifesaving mission in September of 2011 when a small group of concerned citizens took the time to review the current process for handling stray animals for the city of Marshfield. In reviewing the process, a necessity was realized; our community desperately needed a humane pet shelter and more importantly, our pets deserved a higher quality of care than they had been afforded for many years. With the passing of new Wisconsin legislation to protect dogs and their owners in June of 2011 and with our stray animals being taken to two separate animal control facilities, the timing was right to act on our vision to build a safe haven for animals in need. A facility provides a temperature controlled environment, getting pets out of extreme heat and cold conditions. It allows us to provide veterinary care, spay and neutering, socialization, microchipping and adoption for homeless pets. A shelter for the Marshfield area enables us to lend a hand to other overcrowded area shelters. It serves our community as a resource center for animal related situations, questions and education.

Our 501c3 non-profit organization has numerous supporters, donors and contributors who believe in our mission. We have a board of directors, several shelter committees and a strong presence in our community. All of our fundraising events are great successes, reinforcing our belief the Marshfield community is ready and eager to embrace and support a humane effort to improve the quality of life for all animals. In September 2015, we moved into the old airport terminal building at 210 W 29th Street. Renovations were completed that summer to help us safely care for Marshfield's homeless animals, a first for the Marshfield community.
