Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for supporting Reba!

In June, we first told you about Reba, a cat who arrived at Whiskers TNR dangerously thin and covered in her own drool. She needed ALL her teeth pulled due to stomatitis, a surgery with a $1,035 price tag.

Right away, so many of you stepped up for Reba, raising $451 during an online campaign. Now, we are thrilled to share two big updates on her behalf: First, Petfinder Foundation has awarded Whiskers TNR a $500 2024 Emergency Medical Grant to use toward the cost of her surgery and follow-up care. And second, thanks to everyone’s support, Reba is adoption ready! Her foster family reports that she is a sweet, easygoing girl who especially enjoys finding sunny snooze spots and being the center of attention.

Find her bio and more photos on the Whiskers TNR website. We are so very grateful to Petfinder Foundation and all of you for helping us change the course of Reba’s life!

Hello Whiskers followers! Today we hear from Sara and Adam who adopted Pippi (fka Ireland) and Tobi (fka Stanley).
Sara and Adam adopted Pippi and Tobi after losing their dearly-loved cat Tonks. As painful as this time was, Sara says that her new kittens “immediately felt like family. They have both
brought so much joy and love into our lives.“ In fact, Sara feels that Tonks was instrumental in pairing her up with her new cats. “It was as if Tonks knew who we needed and made it happen,” she recounts. “Pippi was immediately affectionate, cuddly, and playful with us. Tobi similarly immediately took to us and was so social. He loved Pippi immediately and follows her everywhere.”
Sara and Adam are adjusting to having two young cats in the house. “We are relearning how to be patient to our two troublemaker kittens who love to climb on everything and knock
decorations over!” she admitted. “We also are learning how to say no to extra food even though they are the cutest!”
Pippi (also known as Pepita, Pippin, Peregrin Took, and PippiPoo) “loves being underneath blankets with us and being snuggled,” Sara said. Other adorable idiosyncrasies include blinking when she meows. “It is the cutest thing!” she gushes. She’d wager that Pippi’s spirit animal is a peacock “because she is so beautiful and has an incredible tail, like a feather duster.” As for the sleek, black-haired Tobi (also known as Toblerone and Tobi with the Toe Beans), “he would for sure be a dog because he has so much playful energy and loves to jump!” Tobi “continues to have insane kitten energy,” but also “loves to snuggle.” Being a rambunctious kitten, “he is also naughty a lot,” she conceded. “He loves to steal human food right off our plates. Joke is on him, as we have started to put random safe things (e.g., a small ice chip) on the table and he just takes that and skips away with it :) He makes us laugh and we love him!!”
And how do these two kitties regard Sara? She thinks they’d describe her as “needy” because she is “obsessed with them and probably annoys them.” She does, after all, sing songs to
Pippi “about her little pink nose,” and serenade Tobi with tunes celebrating his toe beans!

The reputation of the latest adoptables of the month from Kiya Koda and Whiskers TNR precedes them. Find out why Jake and Murray fit the stereotype of orange tabby fellas -- and whether one of them is meant to be yours.

Finding a forever home isn’t always a walk in the (dog) park for Warren County’s animals in need. In this monthly column, we team up with Kiya Koda Humane Society

Belinda was made for belly rubs!

Belinda may be a little shy, but there’s one sure way to this beautiful girl’s heart: belly rubs. “She is such a sweet girl that wants nothing more than to have someone lavish attention on her,” says her foster dad. “Her FAVORITE thing in the world is getting belly rubs.” Originally an outdoor kitty, he thinks she would thrive in a quieter home since she’s still building her confidence as an indoor pet. But trust us – it’s absolutely heartwarming to see her get braver every day and eat up any bit of attention her foster family bestows on her – especially involving that fluffy belly! “She has THE sweetest meow when trying to get your attention to give out belly rubs. She rolls over and grabs your arm and won’t let go.” Has this precious girl gotten your attention?

Losing my beloved cat Carlos to cancer earlier this year left a huge void in my heart. I adopted him in 2021 after he spent months at the shelter, described as an unfriendly, seven-year-old cat. I had never had a cat before, but Carlos and I bonded instantly. He was by my side through some of the most pivotal moments of my life, including my sobriety journey, and losing him was incredibly difficult.

My friends and family encouraged me to adopt again, but after meeting several kittens, none of them felt like the right fit. I began to wonder if it just wasn’t the right time. That’s when I saw Michi (formerly known as Creamsicle) on Whiskers Trap Neuter Return's page. She was an almost two-year-old FIV+ cat, and although I’d originally been looking at kittens, something about Michi stood out to me. Whiskers TNR was incredibly quick and responsive—shortly after I submitted my application, they arranged for me to meet her.

When we met, she climbed right into my lap, and I felt an immediate connection—like she had been waiting for me. Two days later, she came home with me on a trial adoption.

I didn’t know much about FIV, but Whiskers was incredibly helpful and patient. They connected me with their vet, who had examined Michi after she was rescued. After speaking with the vet, asking plenty of questions, and doing my own research, I felt confident in making Michi’s health a priority. I started her on a high-protein, moisture-rich diet, daily probiotics, and supplements. In no time, her skin rashes cleared up, her respiratory issues improved, and she blossomed into a plump, healthy, and spoiled kitty.

Caring for Michi has been incredibly rewarding. She’s full of personality—demanding attention, playtime, and plenty of brushing—and she’s also affectionate, VERY talkative, and loves her naps and Cat TV videos. I was grateful for the chance to do a trial adoption. Living with children, I wanted to ensure Michi could thrive in our home without feeling stressed, which could worsen her FIV symptoms. Thankfully, she quickly adapted and loves playing with the kids. After a month of seeing how well she fit into our family, I was able to officially adopt her.

Adopting Michi has brought healing and joy back into my life. Whiskers TNR has been amazing throughout the entire process, and I’m so thankful Michi found her way to me. To anyone considering adoption, I encourage you to give overlooked cats a chance. Carlos, who was labeled unsociable and older, and Michi, who is FIV positive, have both been the most loving and joyful companions.
