One hunt that I remember the most .. I was still young enough to be hunting with my dad; It was just the start of gun season, this morning was nice and cool, and there was no snow on the ground. We sat in an island of trees on one of our friends’s property that opened up into a small cornfield, surrounded by more trees.. less than a half an hour later a big group of yearling does came out into the field. None of them big enough to shoot one. Another 30 minutes goes by and the young deer made their way up to our tree line now within 5 yards… one of the does started grunting and stomping her feet (like they always do 😒) At this point, my dad instructed me to meow like a cat - ( I thought this was a craziest thing he’d ever suggest) except it worked, I meowed little kitten, “meow,” and the doe calmed down and continued on eating …. The deer continued in- closer and closer and closer to the tree line where dad and I were sitting on the ground. (Now within 3 yards) - more than an hour had passed… My dad quickly tells me “watch this” - he jumps up yelling “BBBAaHHHH”. - and all the deer take off 😂

It’s a fond memory of mine because my dad and I got to sit together, quietly in the tree line, watching deer as they do . No pressure to shoot.
