🐾 Peewee Update

Our tiny blind kitten, Peewee, was getting very lonely and cried almost constantly whenever he was by himself. 💔

So, we introduced him to some new kitten friends. They are a little bigger than he is, and unlike Peewee, they can see so they occasionally push him around and steal the best toys. But that is all part of learning how to be a kitten.

Watching him explore, play, and figure things out is incredibly inspiring. He is a brave little soul. ❤️

DONATION UPDATE
❤️ Thank You, EBARR Supporters! ❤️

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated during this difficult time. Because of your generosity, we are now able to pay the veterinary bills that were due and keep our commitments to the animals already in our care.
While our intake remains closed for now, your support has given us hope and helped ease a tremendous financial burden. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement has made a difference.
We also want to remind everyone that we still have active fundraisers on our page for animals currently in our care who need ongoing medical treatment, as well as for animals we hope to take in once we're able to reopen intake. These funds go directly toward surgeries, diagnostics, medications, and lifesaving veterinary care.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us and the animals who depend on us. Your kindness truly changes lives, and we couldn't do this without our amazing community.

🎉 Wow. We are beyond grateful for the incredible support and generosity our community has shown.

Thanks to all of you, we have raised $4,900 toward our veterinary debt! ❤️
That means we are now just $1,100 away from our goal.

Every donation, share, comment, and word of encouragement has helped bring us closer to being able to reopen intake and continue helping animals in need.

We still need one final push to get there. Please keep sharing this post and spreading the word. The sooner we reach our goal, the sooner we can continue saying "yes" to animals who need medical care, safety, and a second chance.

From all of us at EBARR and from the animals whose lives you are changing—Thank you.
We couldn't do this without you. 🐾❤️

Just $1,100 to go! Let's finish this together. 🙏🐾

🚨 WE NEVER WANTED TO MAKE THIS POST

For the first time in a long time, East Bay Animal Rescue & Refuge has been forced to make a heartbreaking decision:

EBARR intake is now closed indefinitely.

Not because the need isn't there.
Not because animals have stopped suffering.
Not because we want to.

But because we simply cannot afford to keep saying yes.

Right now, we are carrying $6,000 in veterinary debt from the animals already in our care. Animals who needed emergency treatment. Animals who needed surgery. Animals who needed diagnostics, medications, and ongoing medical support to survive.

We made those commitments because their lives mattered.
But today, our bank account is telling us what our hearts don't want to hear:
We cannot responsibly take in another animal until we catch up.

Every day we receive messages about abandoned kittens, injured strays, neglected dogs, and animals facing euthanasia.

Every day we have to tell people we can't help.

And every "no" hurts.

Like many rescues, we have been hit hard by rising veterinary costs, inflation, and a dramatic decline in donations. We receive zero government funding.

Everything we do is powered by volunteers and the generosity of people who believe animals deserve a chance.

Right now, we need our village.
We need the people who have followed our journey, shared our posts, adopted from us, fostered for us, volunteered with us, or simply believe in what we do.
❤️ If just a fraction of our supporters donated $10 today, we could begin digging our way out of this hole.

💔 Some rescues break your heart the moment you see their photo. Peewee was one of them.

This tiny baby arrived in our care from the San Jose shelter suffering from devastating injuries to both eyes. We don't know exactly what happened to him, but the damage was severe enough that both eyes have ruptured.

Despite the pain he has endured, this little fighter is incredibly sweet. He melts into your hands, seeks comfort, and purrs when he feels safe. He has every reason not to trust the world, yet he still does.

Once he is old enough, Peewee will need bilateral enucleation surgery to remove both damaged eyes and finally give him relief from the pain he has been living with.

But medical cases like Peewee are expensive, and right now our emergency medical fund is being stretched to its limits. Between surgery, medications, exams, and ongoing care, we desperately need your help.
🙏 Please consider making a donation toward Peewee's surgery.
🙏 Share this post to help us reach more people.

Every rescue says yes to animals who have nowhere else to go. Today, that animal is Peewee.
Welcome to EBARR, sweet Peewee. We promise you are safe now. ❤️

Remember Pyrite?
One of our tiny “Stone Pirates,” together with his brothers Basalt and Obsidian. These boys went through more in their first 6 months of life than most animals ever should.

As tiny kittens, severe URI infections destroyed their eyes, leading to enucleation surgeries. Then, just as they were recovering, all three developed ocular FIP on the only eye they each had left. 💔
But thanks to an incredibly dedicated foster who refused to give up on them, these boys beat the odds.
Now Pyrite is thriving and officially ready for his forever home. ✨

This sweet little pirate is outgoing, affectionate, adventurous, and full of personality. He even learned how to wear a harness and leash! Pyrite does great with other cats and is comfortable around dogs too.

His brothers Basalt and Obsidian are also still waiting at one of our adoption centers, hoping their families find them soon.
