Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital was established in 1974 in Martinsburg WV. The doctors and staff have been practicing high quality veterinary medicine for 40 years. On September 25, 2009, the hospital expanded to a new state-of-the-art facility, creating the ability to see more pets. In 2023 we have started offering TeleHealth visits! It’s been the week of squishy face puppies! Yesterday Sierra got to see sweet Luna again. Since her first visit at 8 weeks old she’s already gained almost 5.5lbs!

Tuesday Dr. Gilpin got to see the squishiest of English Bulldog puppies. And of course Dr. Shamblin wanted to get in on the action! Yappa, Berta, Duke and Simon started of their first vaccine series. We can’t wait to see them back in 3 weeks! ❤️

With the weather quickly warming up don’t forget to keep your pets in mind!

☀️Always have access to fresh cool water and shade
🍉Never leave pets in hot cars unattended
🕶️Make sure all pets have up to date microchip and contact information incase of an emergency
⛱️ Only give safe foods
🏝️When walking, pay attention to the temperature of the asphalt
🍍Be prepared for fireworks, if your pet is sensitive to loud noises like fireworks or storms
🌊 Avoid any strenuous exercise during the hottest hours of the day

And most importantly…Don’t forget your flea, tick and heartworm prevention!

If you’ve visited SVH in the past couple of months, you may have gotten to meet some of our new doctors as they finished up their final in clinic hours. On May 10th they all graduated from Virginia Tech.

New Dispensing Fee for Online Purchases Beginning May 1st, 2024

As our practice has grown, the amount of online refill requests has increased greatly. In the ever-changing economy we are facing, the cost to our hospital of writing these prescriptions is also rapidly increasing.

Due to this, we are finding that we will need to hire additional staff members to keep up with our pharmacy's demand. The process of reviewing a request is not as simple as the click of a button; this task requires multiple staff members to process a single request.

It has been common practice in most medical and veterinary practices for some time to charge a fee for this service. Due to the cost of personnel and the increasing amount of online prescriptions coming in, we feel we have no other choice but to charge a dispensing fee of $12 for prescription requests.

We are happy to continue to write prescriptions for you for outside pharmacies with a fee and appreciate your understanding.
We will continue to fill medications on our online pharmacy, Vets First Choice with NO additional fee. You can find a link to our online pharmacy on our website.

Heman is modeling a no flap ear wrap!

Dr. Shamblin saw him for an ear hematoma yesterday. Ear hematomas happen when dogs and cats shake their heads so often that they break the blood vessels in their ear. Luckily we drained the hematoma and sent home medications. He’s rocking a new hat for the next 7-10 days to keep him from shaking his head/ears.

No more Heman-tomas for this boy! (Get it?)

She has a bachelors in science and is currently in Penn Foster to become a registered vet tech. Victoria graduated from Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh and is currently studying for the VTNE, to become RVT! She enjoys spending time with her family, especially being a new mom!
