As many of you know, Dr. Tom "retired" to Montana. He spent this past weekend as onsite veterinarian for the Darby Dog Derby which was hosted by the Bitterroot Mushers. It was such a unique event and he survived despite the cold :D

Ugh, winter is coming with a vengeance!!! 🥶❄️🌬☃️
Please make sure your outdoor animals have access proper shelter (draft free and dry are most important qualities of a good shelter) and unfrozen water.
If you put bedding in a cat or dog shelter use straw NOT hay.
As for water there are a variety of heated bowls, buckets and trough heaters available at places like Rural King & Tractor Supply or locally owned and awesome Orchard Country Store!

The included post from animal control has some good info, but please don't call in your neighbors who have well cared for livestock guardian dogs watching their livestock! They are very good at handling extreme temps as long as they have access to shelter.
