Hi my names June! Some call me Junie or Junebugs. My nice friends at the SPCA figured out that I’m deaf! I do well with hand cues and vibrations. I love to trick them into thinking I can read lips (in reality I can’t but it’s funny watching them get flustered when I sit randomly without hand cues!) I absolutely love toys that I can chew on, peanut butter filled kongs hold the key to my heart. I love to watch butterflies and bees fly around. I am a great cuddler! I enjoy long belly rubs, head scratches, and most of all a nice nap in a comfy bed! I do good with other dogs but I am deaf, I don’t like when they startle me so a calmer brother or sister would be more preferred! If you are interested in visiting me please come by the shelter form 12 to 6 Tuesday - Friday or 12 to 4 on Saturdays.
A big thank you to El Buen Sabor, 2622 Virginia Avenue (a few doors down from Manny’s Collinsville) for becoming an SPCA cash donation box partner! If you haven’t had Tres Leches cake (translation three milk cake), this and many other delicious discoveries await you there, including fresh bread, pastries, flan and flan cake, hot tortillas, tamales, and sometimes roasted ranch chicken (follow their page for oven fresh announcements)!
Volunteers! We need you. Two shifts available or a full day shift! This is going to be a HUGE event. Please sign up below for our FUR FAIR 2024

OH MY GOODNESS! The things we can say about this crazy, goofy, lovebug..... He wants to be a lap dog, he loves people (can be shy around strangers at first), loves other dogs and loves to play and eat treats. Please come by and visit with this sweet guy today! All adult dog adoption fees are waived until the 15th of September. If you are looking for some one to cuddle with while sipping that pumpkin spice and watching scary movies then look no further!! Dodger said name the place and time and he is there.
Margarita is a 4 year old, spayed female pit mix that is looking for her forever family. Margarita came to the shelter in April with her 2 babies who has since been adopted. This sweet girl is looking for a home with no cats. Until September 15th all adult dogs do not have an adoption fee. Please come by and visit with Margarita and all of our available pets.
Angus Beef came to us as a stray and is not doing well here at the shelter. Unfortunately Angus is Heartworm positive and we are in desperate need of finding him a foster to recover from his heartworm treatment. He will need a loving family with no other pets and will need to stay as calm a possible during treatment and recovery. If you would like to meet Angus Beef we are open Tuesday - Friday 12 to 6 and Saturdays 12 to 4

Lucy running into the new year like … cmon guys! Lucy is such a sweet girl at heart, I mean she let us put this little vest on her and take cute videos. If anyones a pro at modeling, its Lucy! At just 3.5 months old, Lucy has had one home already..she was returned to no fault of her own, and we love her all the same! Her little puppy fur is still as silky smooth as ever, she loves to be in your lap and give wet kisses any chance she can. Now we know little Lucy is a wild child! She and her roommates routinely rough house so we think she'd love to be a little sister to active dogs. Shes just a little girl in her own little world and we know she would love to make you part of it! Please come meet Lucy during open hours!
Updating: Jaq is still patiently waiting😊 he does not require a fenced in yard truly a nice walk or playing ball on a long leash would be just fine with him! We also have a public dog park behind the shelter you are welcome to bring him to for off leash playing! Jaq is still our longest resident😔 We tried so hard to make his Christmas wish come true of finding him a home but we fell short. We have tried everything and for 176 days, feels like we have let him down! He has been ghosted, returned and passed over. 3 year old Jaq is a former inmate and frequent flyer of Henry county animal control arrested for drunk in public wondering the streets! After making news for peeing on the tires of the ACO’s truck as they loaded him up he was not claimed. We felt for him and everyone does something a little embarrassing from time to time right? He had been on his best behavior! So on July 7th we decided to transfer him to our facility! In his months with us we’ve managed to learn a good bit about him! He’s the first one to speak at story time! Jaq has mastered cracking us with his judgmental glares for extra treats as we go on lunch break. He is great with people but without an energy outlet he’s liable to turn into a boxing kangaroo of excitement! He’s pretty simple with how he enjoys his time though. Jaq’s hobbies include playing ball, splashing in the water and being where ever you are. Despite his kingly attitude he is a super smart boy and super easy to train, even knows basic commands! But let’s be honest- he’s not perfect but who is? Jaq likes what he likes and will let you know pretty quick what he doesn’t! Because he is so picky he requires a meet and greet to be sure your current pets are to his high standards! The one absolute thing that can not be in his palace are cats. He still bets they are the one who spread rumors while he was serving time! So if you’re looking to reminisce high school and fall for the bad boy come meet Jaq!
Recap of 2023, what an amazing year we have had in saving over 400 dogs and cats with our partners Henry County Animal Shelter and Martinsville City Animal Shelter. We hope to be able to save many more in 2024.
We want to wish you a Merry Christmas from our staff to you and your furry family. Thank you for your continued support!
Merry Christmas humans! My name is Jaq and I am hoping to find my forever home before Santa comes.... Can you help me?? I am a large boy weighing about 70lbs, but I am a good boy. I am a 3 year old retriever mix, I am pretty picky about other dogs and I will need a meet and greet. I do play rather rough (well that's what the weird humans here say, I think they are full of bologna). So here's the thing, I have a strong prey drive for cats.... I get in trouble here because they tell me that is not a good thing... I can't help it, duh! I am a dog... (like I said the humans here are crazy and full of bologna) anyway if anyone sees Santa please tell him I just want a home of my own with someone who can handle my strength and that can give me the time and love that I deserve. I have been in the shelter for 142 days and I need away from these crazies... Love Always, Jaq Oh PS. My adoption fee has been waived until the first of the year!
