Our phone lines are down again, VM has been hit and miss. If you need to contact us and our regular phone # doesn't work, feel free to text me at 425-418-0255. I tech is being dispatched tomorrow, but after 3 weeks of phone issues, I'm losing all hope and thinking of going VOIP but I hate to put all my comms in one basket. Cell service here is non existent unless I'm near my wifi router.

Here's an old blog post I wrote about my beloved dog, Starbuck and how a solid "Sit" command saved her life.

Everyone wants a dog that will obey, but most people don’t have a clue how to get there. It’s relatively simple, BE CONSISTENT. Don’t change the rules on a daily (or in some cases, an hourly basis.…

About Adventure Dog Ranch: Our Story

Cage-Free, Free Range Dog Boarding, Dog Training and Daycare.

It was always Steve’s dream to work with dogs. He helped his dad train hunting dogs when he was little and those relationships stuck with him. He still reminisces about a lab named “Cracker,” with great affinity.

Flash forward to about 1995 ish... Steve and I were young, idealistic and both battling major injuries. I’d had multiple surgeries 7 on my left wrist alone, and a neck fusion and Steve was recovering from a pair of auto accidents... (Note to anyone that cares: Never drive a car the same color as wet concrete in the great Pacific NW.) To add insult to injuries, Steve also obliterated a nerve in his elbow when working in asbestos abatement, busting up, asbestos- laden tile with a spud bar. He wound up needing surgery too. We were both in a lot of pain and my mom (and best friend,) was dying of lymphoma. I wasn’t sure we were even responsible enough to own a dog.... relying on L&I to pay the bills, what happens later? What happens if? Sure, the pet crawdads had actually bred in captivity (I’d read they simply don’t do that, but they had a regular love fest at our house,) and his pet, ghost knife fish, survived for 7 years, (until a new friend from the fish store infected the tank, and our knife fish went belly up.) I still wasn’t sure I was ready for a dog.

Then one day Steve was out in the yard and saw a handsome yellow lab playing chicken with cars in the busy traffic by Silver Lake and I fell in love. Sure, I’d had dogs growing up and I loved them, but they were yappy little things that had their own agendas. They didn’t really do much. I didn’t know that dogs could be real partners in life and I sure didn’t know that they could be obedient, incredibly loyal friends. At least not until I met Steve’s sister, Debbie’s dog, Stormy. That black Labrador was a force of nature. Locked into a retrieve, she was spectacular to watch and so well trained that she was like a dog on a string. She would heel perfectly while Steve’s dad, Paul, danced around the room. I was amazed. Yet still, I wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment. I wasn’t ready until that handsome yellow lab that Steve found playing in traffic, came into our lives.
