What is Preacher doing? Taking a dust bath! Horses love a good dust bath. A healthy, happy horse dust bathes to scratch their back (since they don't have hands). Plus the dust layer on their coat helps keep pesky flies away. And it just feels good, like a massage. Preacher loves to dust bathe on the pile rounded gravel Sunrise got specifically for the horses.

This little piggy makes 20! Welcome to your forever home Wilbur!!! Wilbur was rescued by Southern Kentucky Humane Society. They drove him all the way to Sunrise because they loved him and wanted him to live his best life. After being neutered, vetted and quarantined, Wilbur was introduced to all his buddies today. We are all taken by his adorable face and his lively personality. ๐๐ฝ๐
We work so hard to give all our residents their best lives. Many times that means working extensively with a wide array of experts and veterinarians. Alice had a rough start to life. She is a Thoroughbred, meaning she likely started racing at just a year or so old. This is too young for the developing horse body and likely caused permanent joint and/or bone problems. Not only this, but then she was neglected and left hungry in a stall. (You can see a photo of Alice when she first arrived at Sunrise in the comments). At Sunrise she found rest, freedom, and a best friend (Preacher). But the permanent damage to her back and legs continues. A full vet assessment revealed chronic pain issues. Muscle relaxants, pain medication as needed, and special gel shoes have all made a big difference for her. Next time you are at Sunrise. Compliment Alice on her awesome kicks! ๐๐๐ฉด๐ด๐๐งก All of this specialized care is expensive, so please consider clicking on the donate button so we can continue to let Alice live her best life!

200 chickens fell from a transport truck on their way to be slaughtered in Hubbard, Ohio. Luckily, sanctuaries stepped in to rescue these girls. Sunrise took 10 individuals. When they arrived, they were practically naked and malnourished. --This is animal agriculture. After one month at Sunrise Sanctuary, their health has improved drastically. Just look at the difference!
These are the victims of animal agriculture and farming. Sanctuary gives previously farmed animals refuge, safety, and unconditional love. We help animals recover from the trauma of their past lives. Sanctuary is a place of hope.
Please consider donating to our Legacy Fund so we can continue providing animals hope for many years to come.
