Just a little insight for the day.
Why are your dogs so expensive?
Well you get what you pay for. Honestly on the scale of cheap and expensive when it comes to the breed I'm mid range. The question I would ask someone is, where do you see the value?
We don't breed dogs to get rich. It cost alot of money and takes ALOT of hard work. We are dedicated to preserving the breed by producing healthy, AKC breed standard dogs. We want everyone to enjoy this breed as much as we do.
Here is a little look at what it is to be a breeder of high quality health tested dobermans
Money spent before a puppy ever hits the ground.
Cost of the female
Annual vet exams $185
Annual cardio $855
Annual Holter test $750
Hip and elbow xray $700
DNA testing $250
High grade dog food $140 monthly
Thyroid and eye exam $285
***Dog trainer $5000
OFA and club fees $500
Total not including any of the one time cost *** $3,665
Now the breeding
Pre breeding exam $60
Progesterone Test multiple $150
Seman $1500
Collection and shipping $500
Insemination $150
Welping box and supplies $500
Vet visits $350
**Emergency care (c-section) $1,600
**incubator $2,000
**oxygen chamber $800
Total $3,210
Once puppies are here

Second set of shots $150
Ear cropping surgery, does not include posting (breeder fee) $2,100
Stitch removal $120
***Posting $25 per week, per pup
Welping and cleaning supplies $500
Vet health certs $510 ($85 per pup)
Total $3,965
Grand total for a litter of 6 with no complications
$14,805
The puppy's need constant monitoring for the first two weeks. So this is where the alarm clock is set for 2 hour intervals. They are ready to go home at 8 weeks old, which is 56 days. It's constant cleaning, feeding, socializing, and training that goes into these dogs. I estimated 5 hours a day minimum, minus the 2 weeks (14 days) and you get 210 hours. Plus the 168 hours in the beginning, which is a total of 378 hours bare minimum. Minimum wage is $16.28 in Washington. For a total of $6,153.84.
So I am upwards of $20,000 before a puppy is even sold.
Now it's pay day after 8 weeks. Let's use my current litter as an example. I have 2 females and 4 males. 3 of which are AKC full breeding rights and sell for $5,400. The other three are AKC limited registration and sell for $3,500. Let's do a little more math. $26,700.
Now since we are using this litter as an example. We had 2 previously failed AI attempts. $2500 in just seman and $500 in vet bills. Zuri also required an emergency c-section for a stuck puppy.
So after it's all added up and deductions we will make $2,600. Not even the cost of a puppy.
So, no our dogs are not expensive. Again, ask yourself, where do you see the value.
Do you value health? Do you value temperament? Do you value a loyal companion? Do you value trainability? If so, then our dogs are a great value. We do this for the integrity of the breed. For the love of the breed. It is not glamorous. We pour our heart and souls into our pups. The litters are strategically thought out and planned so that we can deliver amazing dogs to equally amazing families.
If your just looking for the scary dogs that you see in the movies. I ask that you do your research. These dogs can be riddled with health problems. They can be over breed to the point that they are not reliable or safe to be around. So what is it that you value?
We guarantee the health of our pups for 2 years from any genetic defects. Our pups come with a life time return policy and lifetime breeder support. We want all of our pups to excel while living long health lives.
