We invite anyone who has interest in promoting responsible pet care in our community, whether you are a volunteer, a donor, a business or pet lover. You can get involved in a variety of ways:
Be a buddy - For $10 each month, you can sponsor a shelter animal. Your donation helps offset the cost of food, shelter and vaccinations. You can also visit your buddy, spending quality time to learn more ab
out its personality. Some sponsors also pay for spaying/neutering to help with the animal's adoption. Be an angel - For $50 each month, your donation will help offset the operating costs of the shelter, including utilities, wages and vet bills. You can sign up as an individual, a family, a business or an organization. Rescue transport - Some of our animals are not adoptable in our community, due to age or medical condition. However, we have located reputable rescue organizations throughout the country who have the time and resources to train these animals for adoption or place them in quality foster homes. You can help by offering your time to drive a short leg of the trip (often 2 hours) to help these animals travel to their new homes. Volunteer - Drop by the shelter and learn about how we care for our animals. You can take them for walks, play with them outside the cages and help us find homes for them. Organize a fundraiser - We LOVE our community, which is full of tender-hearted individuals of all ages who are determined to assist us with our mission. We need a foster for these three munchkins. They are eating wet food but not getting enough water. A foster could help us monitor them more than the staff can. We provide all the supplies! Call 660-562-3333 if you can foster.
Can’t foster? You can still help! We need wet kitten food. Many of the stray kittens we get are sick or underweight. They need the supplements found in the kitten formulas. From time to time we help the City of Savannah to place homeless animals. Unfortunately, we are out of space in our building. The next best thing we can do is share her story.
Reba is 3-5 year old Shepherd/Heeler mix arrived on July 20th. She was posted to a couple groups, but the only lead received was "it looks like a dog that roamed the neighborhood after its owner died". Her stray hold is now up and she is available for adoption.
Reba is sweet and will be a loyal friend. She is medium-sized and closer to the build of a Heeler. She appears to be kennel broke as she keeps her kennel clean. We do not know if she's housebroken or how she does with other animals. When we are done with out daily walk, we sit for a spell and she stays right there with me. She'll need work on basic commands. She knows "no" but is slow with "come on".

Born July 6th, the puppies will be ready for their forever homes around Labor Day. Potential adopters can go ahead and submit an application online at https://www.newnodawayhumanesociety.org/adopt or in person at the shelter. Please list the name of the puppy you are interested in on the application. Putting 2nd, 3rd and even 4th picks is encouraged in case your first choice is taken.
The puppies are in a foster home with mom and are not available for meet and greets at this time. Once they are 8 weeks old, we’ll contact selected adopters to come in and meet your puppy and finalize the adoption.
Each had an adoption fee of $150 and will be sent home with a continued vetting voucher for neuter/spay surgery and rabies vaccination when older.

These three Hound mix puppies (all males) were found in the middle of the road. They are covered in fleas and have wormy, extended bellies. The staff is busy giving baths and meds to make the puppies’ stay more comfortable. We’ve named them Daemon, Jace and Viserys.

Not sure if she belongs to someone but she's running the road on Hwy 36 between Parnell & Ravenwood. The way she looks she may have pups somewhere or recently weened!

Join the New Nodaway Humane Society on Monday, Aug. 12 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Maryville Aquatic Center for Pawsatlapoola! The entry fee is $5 per head (dog and person). All proceeds go to benefit the New Nodaway Humane Society.
Rules:
🐾 City dog license (for Maryville residents) or proof of current rabies vaccination (for everyone else) is required for entry.
🐾 All dogs must check in with a leash and collar.
🐾 This event is for non-aggressive dogs.
🐾 No one under 13 yrs of age can enter the water.
🐾 All handlers are restricted to the shallow end of the pool while dogs only can enter the deep end.

If your dog is not licensed, you can register him/her at the shelter ($5 spay/neuter dog | $25 unaltered dog).
UPDATE: Owner identified. The puppies were born June 14th. The mom is a German Shepherd mix. The dad is unknown.
The puppies turn 8 weeks old on Friday. We will start their vaccinations and get them ready for adoption.

Here’s a word from his foster: Snickerdoodle full of love and if I didn’t have 4 I’d keep him. He gets along with the other dogs and is mesmerized by the goats. We put him in the back of the dog house at night so he can go outside as needed. He has a bed in there where lays down. He keeps this area clean and has had no messes. UPDATE: Lucifer has been adopted! ___ Lucifer has been waiting for his forever home since Halloween – hence the name. Lucifer’s favorite toy is a rope. He could play tug of war and fetch all day long. And the best part is you can pick him up off of the ground playing tug of war because he’s smaller 😂
