New Nodaway Humane Society NNHS is a no-kill shelter serving Maryville and Nodaway County (Missouri) and the surrounding area The shelter helps transport these animals across the country.

We invite anyone who has interest in promoting responsible pet care in our community, whether you are a volunteer, a donor, a business or pet lover. You can get involved in a variety of ways:

Be a buddy - For $10 each month, you can sponsor a shelter animal. Your donation helps offset the cost of food, shelter and vaccinations. You can also visit your buddy, spending quality time to learn more ab

out its personality. Some sponsors also pay for spaying/neutering to help with the animal's adoption. Be an angel - For $50 each month, your donation will help offset the operating costs of the shelter, including utilities, wages and vet bills. You can sign up as an individual, a family, a business or an organization. Rescue transport - Some of our animals are not adoptable in our community, due to age or medical condition. However, we have located reputable rescue organizations throughout the country who have the time and resources to train these animals for adoption or place them in quality foster homes. You can help by offering your time to drive a short leg of the trip (often 2 hours) to help these animals travel to their new homes. Volunteer - Drop by the shelter and learn about how we care for our animals. You can take them for walks, play with them outside the cages and help us find homes for them. Organize a fundraiser - We LOVE our community, which is full of tender-hearted individuals of all ages who are determined to assist us with our mission. Sign ups begin at 5:30pm with the trivia promptly starting at 6:30pm. Only $10 to play, with every cent donated to our furry friends. Adoption information will be provided. See you there!

At 16 years, the shelter is no place for these seniors. Precious and Boots are very stressed and not doing good. They are so scared that they are even lashing out at each other despite living together their whole lives. We are giving them time and space to adjust, but this has been a shocking change

We are looking for either a foster or forever home for Precious and Boots. Preferably a quieter home that will allow them time to open up and let their personalities shine.

The adoption fee is $50 to adopt both together. Located in Maryville, Missouri.

From foster:
She is mostly potty trained, will whine in her kennel at night only if she has to go potty.

All meals are eaten in her kennel and then she goes potty after

She sleeps really good with a blanket over her kennel at night

She doesnā€™t like to share her food bowl with others (because sheā€™s never had to) although she has gotten better at sharing this last week.

She plays loud and it sounds aggressive but sheā€™s only playing and didnā€™t have a mama dog to teach her itā€™s to rough so when I notice sheā€™s getting to rough I make her take a puppy time out

She loves to be snuggled

Great with kids, cats and dogs of all ages

Be careful free feeding her as she gobbles it down very fast so I had her on 3 x a day feeding

She is great with baths and nail trims
We call her Maddie Mae and she does respond to her name

UPDATE: Celeste has been placed in a hospice foster home. Keep her in your thoughts

Today we got a stray cat who was in need of medical assistance. The vet has diagnosed her with luxation of the vertebrae and says itā€™s a miracle she has as much function as she currently does. The prognosis of her recovery is very guarded and thereā€™s still a chance her condition worsens.

Celeste is not exhibiting signs of pain or discomfort. She has responsiveness to her back legs but not weight bearing. Celeste has the sweetest personality so if she has the will ā€“ we want to give her body time to heal before making any final decisions.

šŸ’” Can you help give Celeste the loving foster home sheā€™s needing? šŸ’”

The ideal foster would be experienced with her situation and located in or near Maryville to be close to our vet. They need to be able to clean her rear end and watch for her ability to urinate voluntarily and have stools. Sheā€™ll need some help getting around as her mobility is limited to scooting at this time.

We are excited to partner with Stands Alone Canine Solutions LLC in Savannah. They are donating their 3-week basic Board and Train program to the future adopters of two of our longest residents: Bruno and Titus. Bruno is a 4yr old Staffordshire Terrier mix who first came to the shelter in September 2022. 873 days ago. Titus is a 4 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix arrived in May 2023. 603 days ago. Both Bruno and Titus love people but because of their demeanor towards other pets - have struggled to find their forever family. With this generous offer of professional training, we hope a potential adopter will take a chance.
