🦃🍁 Thanksgiving Safety Tips for Your Dogs 🍁🦃
From everyone at Darlin’ Doggie Do’s and Kovar K9, we want your Thanksgiving to be safe and happy for your furry friends! Here are some important health and safety tips to keep in mind this holiday:
🐾 No Table Scraps, Please!
While it might be tempting to share your feast with your pup, many Thanksgiving foods can harm their health. Foods like turkey skin, gravy, stuffing, and desserts are high in fat and can lead to pancreatitis—a painful and potentially life-threatening condition.
🐾 Watch Out for Toxic Foods
Certain common ingredients in holiday meals are toxic to dogs, including:
• Onions & Garlic (found in stuffing and casseroles)
• Grapes & Raisins (hidden in desserts or stuffing)
• Chocolate & Artificial Sweeteners (like xylitol, found in sugar-free desserts)
🐾 Bones Are a No-Go
Turkey bones may splinter and cause choking or damage to your dog’s digestive tract. Always dispose of bones securely.
🐾 Limit the Rich Foods
Even a little taste of rich foods like mashed potatoes, butter, or heavy gravy can upset your dog’s stomach. Keep their treats simple and stick to their normal diet.
🐾 Provide a Safe Space
Thanksgiving can be overwhelming for some dogs with all the visitors and activity. Create a calm, quiet space where your dog can relax away from the hustle and bustle.
🐾 Safe Treat Alternatives
Want to include your dog in the holiday fun? Offer them:
• A Kong filled with plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling).
• Their favorite chew or toy to keep them occupied.
• A small amount of plain, cooked turkey (no skin, seasoning, or bones).
Keeping these tips in mind will help ensure your dog enjoys Thanksgiving safely and comfortably.
From all of us at Darlin’ Doggie Do’s and Kovar K9, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
