As spring approaches, we want to bust a few myths.

Have you been told that you can put products such as Snake Away out in your yard and snakes won't come near it? Unfortunately, this is just something told to consumers to sell products. This western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) agrees with us!

Similarily, using mothballs outside doesn't work to deter snakes either. In fact, it is illegal to use mothballs outdoors, and they can be harmful to your pets and children.

The Rattlesnake Conservancy encourages people to co-exist with snakes and live harmoniously. However, we also recognize that those who have concerns about pets and children may be interested in ways to reduce the chances of encountering snakes in their home and yard.
