Sorry haven’t posted in awhile. Back working in the shop today. Mounted a couple bucks and working on several other mounts. Bucks mounted were TV and DB.

I’m still peeling heads, boxing dried deer capes/hides and salting 10 bear. These are all previous clients. Hopefully next week we get some warm weather to flesh some capes.

Just finished hanging 36 hides. All rifle season capes and maybe a couple late bow capes.

57 hides off to the tannery. 36 in the salt and about 15 more to go. I drive down state a couple times a year so that I can save the client money. It’s 7 hours of windshield time and I lose a day in the shop. I’ve almost doubled the work load from last year.

Power washed 32 deer capes, 2 full deer hides, a raccoon and a beaver. I took in one shoulder mount, that was the only break I took. I’m beat. Showering and looking for food!

I’ve been aging many of these deer and I can’t believe how old some of them are. In a normal year bucks average 2-5 years old with maybe one or two bucks over 5 1/2. This year I have a dozen bucks or more that are 5 1/2-10 1/2 years old. I have had more mature bucks this year than any other year. Some of the heaviest racks I’ve taken in! I’m guessing it’s the late season and lack of does that are pulling these mature bucks out of the deep woods.

Just skinned, quartered, caped and peeled a huge buck, peeled 3 other capes off shoulder mounts and turned the ears and split the lips on 16 deer capes. Tired!!

If you’re debating having a shoulder mount please bring it in soon. I’m about filled up and may only take in items from previous clients after this week. Over 100 big game animals skinned between 3 and 6 months after a complete shoulder replacement is enough for me!!!

I wanted to let hunters know that these deer are covered with ticks. Just because it’s below freezing, don’t think the ticks are dead. As soon as as the deer start to cool off, the ticks let go and look for a new host. I pulled 7 off of me yesterday. Only two of them were stuck. It’s a daily occurrence for me.

Got 3 more caped shoulder mounts to peel out and 4 full frozen deer to skin, quarter, cape and peel. I have a feeling shoulder and European mounts will be coming in all week.

First time visiting a CWD dumpster location. I felt bad looking at all the wasted meat! Full shoulders, half hind quarters, some very interesting skinning and processing jobs.

Skinned and peeled deer all day. Just getting in from skinning and quartering 4 bucks! Some really nice bucks coming from Bayfield County this year!
