Hey gang!

Just wanted to share some new ideas for the ingham County 4H dog project area and get some feedback. I, for one, am excited by the possibilities!

1. Have different events on different days. This would give a chance to do somethings during the fair... maybe

2. Add in a "working Dog" section to include Nosework. Maybe draft/carting/sledding and Barn Hunt too! If added, we would put on some workshops early in the year to help everyone learn about these areas. The Working Dog section would not count towards limited on other performance classes.

Or

Splitting this project area into 2 different areas/groups/shows...whatever you want to call it. Such that they would be 2 seperate events with 2 different superintendents. 1 for the usual stuff we've been doing: showmanship, rally, obedience, Agility, educational poster, trick dog... and 1 show for Nosework. Maybe with other things like draft and Barn hunt.... these preformance events are becoming very popular additions to the working dog world and are usually held at bigger shows like Nationals...

3. Another thought... How about looking into having a "Dog Barn" at fair. I judged at Safinaw Fair and they have one! They do events over 2-3 days during fair. Members take turns having their dogs at the Barn and get rewards for each time session they take/do. Rewards at Saginaw include getting tickets for drawings for cool stuff donated by businesses...

Please let me know what your thoughts on these ideas. Currently, the 4H Office has decided to have two different shows/events as described in #2 second idea. Just not sure if we really want to divide the project. Tho open to it, if it's what the project area wants!

Sincerely,
Laurie Griffith
4H Dog Project Superintendent

Don't think your dog has what it takes to be a part of the 4H Dog project????

GUESS AGAIN!

Young or old; pretty, or well, not; athletic or disabled; purebred or mixed; registered or not;... there is something for every dog and their youth to do Within the Ingham County Dog Project! It's so much more than just getting trophies!!! Not only do we have special classes within performance categories for "needy" dogs... And very understanding judging that takes into account progress and team work on an individual team basis... there are other ways to show off what the youth have learned with their dog throughout the 4H year!

* trick dog
*Educational Poster
* community service opportunities
*workshops, fun matches and a variety of training opportunities

And considering adding more!

So get signed up and let us help your child.get the most out of the 4H Dog Project!

Any dog...of any age, breed, breed type or mix can be a part of the Ingham County 4H Dog Project. We do our best to accommodate for age and any disability too. It's all about the kids and learning to be good, caring, responsible knowledgeable Dog owners!!!

The potential 4H youth just needs to be registered with an Ingham County Community Club to participate. Registrations will close shortly after New Year.!!!

Oh amd needs to turn in the "May 1st Form" dur by, you guessed it... May 1st. That form can be found on the Ingham County 4H website under dog.project

Got a question about kids ages to be in 4H

Cloverbuds - 4-7
* (might be Max age of 8 but I think it got
lowered to 7) on January 1st of 2025
* like a JR 4Her but we treat them pretty much
the same!
* must have adult support at classes and
events!!!

4H age - 8-19.
(Was 9 but I think it got lowered to 8)

*** remember, the child MUST be enrolled in an I gham County 4H club by Feb 2025. They do not "enroll" in 4ah through this group
