NY 6, General Needs Ltd. and members of the Elks Club bring supplies and lotto scratch off tickets to our Veterans at the Long Island State Veterans Nursing Home on the grounds of Stonybrook University! The lotto scratch off will be given out as prizes during bingo nights.

NY6 was alerted to a Veteran in distress by General Needs Ltd. back in the summer. Through combined efforts we were able to assist this Veteran

It seems that the Veteran was without plumbing for at least 2yrs. Not only is the Veteran disabled, he is caring for his disabled daughter. His cesspool had filled and sewage backed up into his house. He and his daughter were relieving themselves in buckets and tossing it out with the trash. The basement of the house had flooded and was covered in black mold.

NY6 jumped right on this and had a cesspool company pump out the cesspool General Needs got an abatement team in to rip out the basement. NY6 redid all the above ground plumbing and got their bathroom back on line then redid the kitchen and added on a laundry room. The electrical was also upgraded.

Further inspection of the home revealed a delapidated heating system. We contacted the State Senator for the area and got in touch with National Grid to get a new gas service brought into the house. A new boiler and water heater were installed.

Just another day in the life of changing a Veterans life for the better!

182A E Shore Drive Massapequa is almost completed! Starting this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday Christmas train, Ferris wheel, ice skating and walk around are open to the public. Friday and Saturday 5 pm to 9 pm and Sunday 4 pm to 8 Pm. Feel free to stop by for activities or pictures. All children must be accompanied by a parent to enter ANY portion of the property and absolutely NO pets are allowed. Waivers must signed before being able to participate in any activities. We ask for your respect and courtesy as you walk around our home and to follow the path that is layed out for you. We were a bit delayed this year as a result of some paper work that we’ve been waiting for because of a few grinch’s from last season. Santa and all of his friends will be joining on Thursday night December 19th for this years special event. Please bring a nominal donation or an unwrapped toy. 100 % of all donations will be donated to St Jude. Join us for the 2024 Miracle in Massapequa!
