Hank and Zack left this morning to PA on Muddy Paws Pet Boarding & Transport from North Texas. Hank and Zack showed up at an Electric Company's Yard in downtown Corpus. When we rescued them A Dogs Way Home Rescue/Sylvia's Promise Animal Rescue, Inc. they were missing much of their hair and had mange so bad their skin was cracked and bleeding. Thanks to the efforts of Misty Dragoo and Si Murray we were able to get them into foster and start the healing process. Hank and Zack made the move with us to North Texas and now on their way to Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue Inc. to find their forever home. It really takes a team to save these beautiful pups and find them forever homes. Hank and Zack's fate would of not been very promising if we were not able to bring them in.

Basil ADOPTED. One of our best placements ever! Basil arrived at his forever home a few days ago. He is joining his sister Pepper. They are so happy together again. We normally don't adopt siblings together but these two are exceptional and found their saving angel. Thank you Marcia Quinn for adopting these two special pups.

Introducing Angel. This beautiful 5-year-old German Shepherd is now available and looking for the perfect forever home. She was brought up in a home with children so a very good companion to both adults and children. To no fault of their own, the family was forced to surrender due to an unavoidable change in their living situation. She gets along great with other dogs and is completely vetted. Housetrained, Crate trained, leash trained, the perfect little lady.

What are Heartworms? Untreated, it is a slow and terrible death for dogs.

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body. Heartworm disease affects dogs, cats and ferrets, but heartworms also live in other mammal species, including wolves, coyotes, foxes, sea lions and—in rare instances—humans. Because wild species such as foxes and coyotes live in proximity to many urban areas, they are considered important carriers of the disease.

Dogs. The dog is a natural host for heartworms, which means that heartworms that live inside the dog mature into adults, mate and produce offspring. If untreated, their numbers can increase, and dogs have been known to harbor several hundred worms in their bodies. Heartworm disease causes lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life long after the parasites are gone. For this reason, heartworm prevention for dogs is by far the best option, and treatment—when needed—should be administered as early in the course of the disease as possible. FUNDRAISER FOR HEARTWORM TREATMENTS- Help is needed. We currently have nine dogs in rescue that need Heartworm treatment. This month we have four either started or will be starting. The cost per dog is $450. These pups are unable to leave South Texas until treated. All have been spay/neutered and fully vaccinated.
1. Benjamin Peabody, 2. Bubbles (who also will get surgery for cherry eye) 3. Riddler 4. Patches. Once they complete their HW treatments they can begin the journey to finding forever homes.
