We're heading to PetSmart in Tinley Park from 12 to 3 pm with furry friends of all ages looking for their furever homes! Pie, Soda, Dave, Nolan, and Wesley are heading to PetSmart and Pie and Soda's mom Cherry has decided to go too!

As we look outside and see the snow falling, we're opening up our weather apps and looking at those 60 degree days coming for more playgroups 👀. We really enjoyed watching our helper dogs, Roscoe and Sahara, help introduce Waverly, Romy, and Pudge to the fun of playgroups!

These adorable faces belong to pets who are newly available for adoption! Madison, Jasper, Papas, Jack, Benton, Alesana, and Birdie would like to say hello 😊. They will be waiting to meet you when we open from noon to 7 pm!

We want to let you know a little bit about what's going on at the shelter. On our adoption floor are 27 kennels. Currently, we have 62 dogs available for adoption. So, many dogs are being held in places inaccessible to the public for space reasons. Yesterday, we decided to open up our Indoor Meet & Greet area (originally created for indoor meet and greets but we quickly became overcrowded and this space was transitioned to more kennels for our pets) for the public to walk through. Typically, this is where we have our smaller dogs available for adoption! All of this is to say that with only 27 kennels on the adoption floor and 62 dogs available, if you visit our shelter, please ask our staff for help if there is a specific dog you saw on the website that you were interested in! They may not be in an area that is accessible! We'd love to help you find your new best friend ❤.

We are so excited to share a very positive update on our four-year-old boy, Barney. He came through our doors on December 9th, 2024. The first photo is of him two days after being in our facility. He was utterly terrified. Whether our staff was around or not, he spent his days hiding in fear. He wanted to be left alone and was angry because he didn't understand why he was there and that we were there to help. The second photo is of him one month later. He was still so scared but allowed staff to get closer to him without reacting. Now, here is the part that we love the most. The next two photos are of Barney as of yesterday. After almost three months in our care, Barney realized he was safe here. He's still shy and nervous but begins rubbing his kennel doors when he sees our staff walk in. Now, he seeks out and enjoys affection from our staff. We're so incredibly proud of the progress Barney has made since being in our care. He's such a handsome boy who needed a little extra time to showcase his true self. We are so proud of our staff for showing him patience and love throughout.

We are seeking a cat-savvy adopter who understands and is willing to work through his fears with patience and love. Watching him come out of his shell has meant the world to us, and we know he has so much to offer in a home. Barney is cat-friendly! While we are closed today and with the current downpour outside, we're admiring these blooper pictures of yesterday's playgroup. While it was so much fun to watch Alesana, Roscoe, and Sahara play, it's even better looking at these photos and laughing at their faces 😂.

SSHS Pups Decide Super Bowl LIX

We are 32 hours away from the kickoff of Super Bowl LIX. So, we had to bring in the experts to decide who will win the Super Bowl! Will it be the Chiefs or the Eagles? It's up to the SSHS pups to decide! We interviewed some of them during their picking process to get into their mind on their decisions! (look away, Eagles fans/Chiefs haters...)

Yesterday, we took advantage of the good weather by testing out a tennis ball launcher that was donated to us! We asked Ether, Bart, and Louie if they would like to have a little fun and they were super excited to help out ❤. We figured what better way to experience our pups having fun than to experience it through their POV ☺️. Ether, Bart, and Louie are all available for adoption! We're open until 7 pm! If you're a Cook County resident, fees are waived at our shelter for our partnership with Cook County's Department of Animal and Rabies Control for Paw-Some Pets!

When life hands you two tennis balls, you, uhhhh, panic because now you need to figure out how to hold both of them! The great thing is that Ether is an expert on it, or so he says. 14/10. A little bit more practice, and you got it, buddy!!
