Welcoming a new pet this holiday season? Whether you’re gifting a furry friend or bringing one home yourself, here are a few tips to help your new pet feel right at home:

🏡 Prepare Their Space: Set up a safe, quiet area with cozy bedding, water, and toys. This will be their "home base" as they adjust to their new surroundings.

⏰ Stick to a Routine: Pets thrive on consistency! Establish a regular feeding schedule, potty breaks, and playtime to help them feel secure.

🩺 Schedule a Vet Visit: A wellness check-up is a must! Schedule a visit with us to ensure they're healthy, up-to-date on vaccines, and to discuss any special care needs.

🐾 Socializing & Training: Introduce them slowly to new people, places, and pets. Positive reinforcement during training will help build confidence and good behavior.

💖 Patience & Love: Every pet has their own pace for adjusting. Be patient, offer plenty of love, and give them time to settle into their new forever home.

A new pet is a big commitment, but it’s also the start of an incredible journey. This holiday season, give the gift of love and care that will last a lifetime! 🎁

FEATURE FRIDAY || Bruno's Journey to Recovery 🐾🏥

When Bruno came to us, he was struggling after swallowing a corn cob. His symptoms – vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite – weren't improving despite initial care. We knew we had to act fast, so we took x-rays to assess the size of the corn cob and determine the best next steps.

The x-rays revealed the corn cob was too large to pass on its own and that surgery was necessary to save him. We also discovered some concerning bloodwork abnormalities, which led us to suspect Bruno was experiencing pancreatitis alongside the foreign body.

Our team sprang into action, performing surgery and successfully removing the corn cob. After surgery, however, Bruno wasn't recovering as quickly as we hoped – he was weak and couldn’t stand on his own. We made the decision to transfer him to Upstate Vet for overnight care, where he received IV fluids and monitoring to help him get stronger.

Two weeks later, Bruno came back to us for his staples to be removed – and he was completely back to his happy, healthy self! We're so grateful to have been part of Bruno’s journey and are thrilled to see him back on his paws!

A huge thank you to Bruno’s owners, our dedicated urgent care team, and the amazing staff at Upstate Vet for making this happy ending possible! ❤️

The holiday season is here, and while we're all celebrating with family and delicious food, let's not forget about our furry friends!

Here are some tips to help keep your pets safe and happy:

🍗 Avoid feeding them human food: Foods like turkey, gravy, stuffing, and desserts can cause upset stomachs or worse. Stick to pet-safe treats instead.

🗑️ Secure the garbage to prevent sneaky snacking: Dispose of turkey bones, scraps, strings, bags, and packaging in a secured area where your pets can’t reach.

🧑‍🍳 Watch out for hot stoves and candles: Make sure curious paws and wagging tails stay clear of hot surfaces and open flames to avoid burns or accidents.

🚪 Watch the door and keep it closed: With lots of guests coming and going, be sure your pet doesn’t escape or get stressed by the commotion.

🏡 Create a cozy spot for them to relax: A favorite bed or crate with familiar blankets and toys will help them feel safe and relaxed away from the bustle.

🐾 Check their ID tags and update microchips: If your pet accidentally escapes, up-to-date ID tags and microchips will help ensure they return home safely.

🩺 Save your vet’s number: Accidents can happen—keep your vet’s contact info and the nearest emergency clinic handy. Quick action is key in emergency situations!

And remember, we're here if you need us. We’re open 8 am to midnight for emergencies. Come by and see us or give us a call at (864) 288-4000.

FEATURE FRIDAY || Luca 🐾

Say hello to Luca! 👋 Luca is a bundle of energy who never sits still. This guy is always on the move, especially when it’s time for his favorite game of fetch. When he’s not running around, he’s the sweetest snuggle bug and likes to lay on you like he’s a tiny lap dog. His signature move? Sleeping on his back with all four paws in the air! And let’s not forget that adorable alfalfa cowlick on top of his head always standing tall. 😆

FEATURE FRIDAY || Charlie 👑

Meet Prince Charles, the cat with royal demands and a heart full of love! This sweet guy has perfected his paw-grab technique to demand attention (we’re talking full-on paw-hold, like he's showing you how it’s done 😹), but we can't help but spoil him! He’s never met a stranger and is always ready to welcome you with snuggles and love. 💖 He may be a grown cat, but don't let that fool you—he’s still perfecting his meow (sometimes a little ~crispy~ but that just adds to his charm). He’s got a heart of gold and we’re lucky to have him in our care.
