Natural Carnivore is now in its “soft opening” In Johnson Creek. Our official grand re-opening will be in October.

Please excuse our mess as we finish renovations and continue building and stocking our displays. In mid September we’re heading out to Connecticut for the annual raw pet food expo, and that’s when we’ll be making our massive purchases for our store!

14 years ago I lost my dog Katana and soon after, her adopted sister Sai. When they passed a part of me died with them. I miss them painfully and terribly to this day, and have reoccurring dreams of being reunited with them.

I’ve not had a dog since then, and while I have my cats, there is a different type of lifestyle required to offer a dog the type of life they need and deserve. And while I love my cats, there is a different type of bond one has with his dogs. And I’ve missed this bond, longing for a point in my life where I could once again be the “Kahu” for a dog. It appears that time has finally arrived.

On Tuesday, my girlfriend/best friend/business partner Tina gave me the best gift one could ever imagine… she unexpectedly found a litter of Cocker Spaniel puppies by chance, and assured me it was time for me to have a dog again, that we’ve finally together have reached a point in our lifestyle where we could provide the type of life a dog deserves.

So we made a 10 hour drive to Ohio, and out of a litter of three girls… this little beauty chose us. She wouldn’t leave our side and nestled up in our arms and when I held her, I felt like in some way I had Katana back in my life again (she was a black cocker spaniel as well).

Loving this new little girl reminds me of Katana, while at the same time I’m rediscovering a happiness I’ve not experienced for over a decade. I can’t help but break down and cry when I hold her at times, but the while some of my tears are for my loss, most of them are out of happiness and joy this little girl has already brought back into my life.

She is beautiful and wonderful and a unique personality all to herself, and she and I are bonding more and more as each day passes.

I know she is not my Katana, but in some ways I feel like I’ve gotten her back. She is unique to herself and has offered a new beginning on this journey through my life.

I’ve not yet chosen a name for her though I’m leaning towards a few words in Old Norse which translate to “a new journey”.

Natural Carnivore is now located at 540 Village Lane STE A, in Johnson Creek. We are still finishing up our renovations and getting new signs, though we hope to have our soft opening this weekend, with our official grand re-opening in October.

We will truly miss being a part of the Mauston community and all of the wonderful families and their fur babies we came to know very well. The two hour drive one way from our home in Watertown simply became too difficult, time consuming, and expensive for us.

Our friends at Wonderland Reptile are expanding their services to offer the same high quality and healthy food and treats for your pets, so please visit them and let them know which brands and products you’d like to see them offer. They’re super friendly and family owned, and just as passionate about pets as us!

We’re excited to continue our journey providing raw and all natural food for our pets in Johnson Creek, and wish everyone a long and happy pet filled life!

Hello everyone,

This post isn’t easy to make, however we have come to a point where we have no choice, but to relocate our store much, much closer to our home.

While Mauston has been a wonderful community very supportive of our business, its distance from our home has taken a toll on us, and we need to simplify our own lives.

When we opened Natural Carnivore, we were living in Reedsburg. Since then life changed its course for us and took us back to her home in Watertown, which is a 2-hour drive each way. Between the cost of gas, vehicle wear, and 2-4 hours on the road each day or crashing at a friends to save drive time, we had to make this difficult yet necessary decision.

There is good news though… We have met and discussed this with our friends from Wonderland Reptile, and they will be expanding their store to offer the same popular all natural and raw foods for dogs, cats, and small animals we carry for our regular customers, and perhaps even more!

We will be teaching them about our products and have made lists of what to keep in stock for our regular guests who have come to rely on us for healthy pet food and treats.

We’re helping them get set up with our distribution companies and letting them know what our guests have to come enjoy and expect from us, so they may continue assisting everyone.

Please be patient with them as they expand, and we hope you understand while this choice wasn’t easy for us, it was necessary.

Our store will soon be located in Johnson Creek, though we will continue to serve as best we can the city of Mauston as Wonderland takes over.

There is a possibility they will be relocating into our current location as well.

We sincerely thank everyone for the support you’ve given our store. We regret we can’t run two locations and that our home ended up being so far away. We will greatly miss being a part of this community.

Our store will remain open in Mauston until August. Thank you for understanding.

Bear, Bella, and Cheyenne, are all enjoying bird watching and the little girl on my shoulder is soon going to her furever home in two weeks! She’s a sweetie and full of adventurous spirit!

While we share lots of posts of our Maine C**ns, we love highlighting our two little junkyard rescue girls we’ve had for nearly 6 years now.

These two littermate sisters have amazing and unique personalities of their own and basically live and sleep on our shoulders throughout the day.

Butters is our Tortie and she is in love with any human she encounters, and she’s not afraid to show it! She has the kind of intelligence that’s borderline scary. You can see the equations and formulas spinning around her as she prepares for jumps that possibly take the rotation of the earth and barometric pressure into account!!!

Babou is our little high anxiety Tabby who for years would go 0-60 off our shoulders from a dead sleep the moment she heard someone else in the room and would disappear for an hour. However in recent weeks while she’s been here at our store, she’s been coming out of her shell and is often greeting customers with cautious optimism and even lets a few them pet her and carry her around.

We appreciate all our customers who enjoy spending time with our kitties and making them feel safe and cared for while at our store. Our cats are family and they mean the world to us.
