A good read for new puppy owners
Socialisation with Amber.
Socialisation is horribly misnamed and leads many new puppy owners down the wrong path of too much interaction and not enough detachment. Socialisation is learning about normal, day to day life; becoming used to the sights, smells, sounds and experiences around us; learning that the world goes on around us and doesn't always require a response from us. What it's ð£ð€ð© about is interacting with every person or dog we meet.
If you have a new puppy one of the most valuable skills you can teach them is to be able to watch the world go by calmly without the need to react or interact. Hang out in different places with your puppy...at the park, outside a supermarket, in a coffee shop, at a market. Let them watch and reward calm behaviour, focus on you, disengagement from distractions. The time you spend doing this in puppyhood will repay you a thousand times over during your life with your puppy....I promise!
