A lovely post from one of the Maynard Dog Park's earliest business supporters. Thank you for your kindness, Metrowest Kung Fu.

RIP Dharma.😥

I started putting dog treats outside the doors almost as an afterthought, just something small to give back to the community. I did not imagine the love and healing it would bring me and others. Thank you so much Stephanie. Strength and healing to you as you grieve your wonderful friend Dharma. Please come say hi to Jake and me anytime.

PRESS RELEASE- April 10, 2024

Animal Abuse/Abandonment Case Under Investigation

The Lincoln Police Department and the MSPCA Police Department are currently investigating a case of animal abuse and abandonment which occurred sometime on April 8, 2024.

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a resident was walking along Page Road in Lincoln when they located a small Terrier-Chihuahua mix male dog lying along the side of the roadway. The injured dog appeared to be approximately 3-4 months old suffering significant injuries to its eye and head. The resident immediately brought the dog to the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston for treatment.

The dog is currently being treated by hospital staff, and we are happy to report that he is responding well to the hospital’s care. We are looking for the public’s assistance with information that may assist us in identifying the owner of the dog and looking to see if anyone saw anything suspicious along Page Road in Lincoln, MA on Monday, April 8, 2024.

If anyone has information, we are asking that you contact the Lincoln Police Department at 781-259-8113 or the MSPCA Police Department at 617-522-6008.

This becomes an issue periodically at the Dog Park. Please be aware it's not as simple as it seems. (And if your dog exhibits this behavior it's still your responsibility to address it, redirect, or take a break from the Park so others can be comfortable.)

HU***NG HOUNDS - It’s not always what it seems

Some dogs do and some dogs don’t, but if you have a dog that humps at the most inopportune times it can be downright embarrassing or annoying.

Other dogs, other people, visitors, toys, cushions, furniture, anything that can be mounted and clung to may be fair game.

As people, it’s natural to assume that this behaviour is of a sexual nature, that our dogs must be oversexed, sexually frustrated or the all-too-common incorrect belief that our dogs are just trying to be “dominant” or “the alpha”.

Hu***ng, like many other dog behaviours does not always have a simple reason. It can be a complex behaviour which is usually emotionally or socially based.

Looking at what may be triggering the behaviour should always be the first step before finding ways to change a behaviour.

The solutions will depend on the cause. It may be finding ways to reduce stress or anxiety levels, increasing mental stimulation, teaching calm behaviours to prevent over arousal, ensuring your dog is getting enough sleep, using management or in some cases a veterinary check up to rule out any medical causes.

When hu***ng is annoying another dog or person or causing frustration, discomfort or harm in any way, then obviously this behaviour needs to be immediately addressed, but sometimes we may need to ask ourselves – is it really something we need to stop our dogs from doing just because we see it as socially unacceptable?

Is it a harmless way of relieving stress or anxiety after a difficult day or a way to expend pent up energy that is not causing anyone harm?

Is a little hump now and then okay if it’s not causing any harm?

If we prevent this, correct it, or at worst punish this behaviour are we removing a harmless natural outlet and risking another unwanted behaviour taking its place?

Hu***ng is one of the most misunderstood behaviours.

Very often, behaviour is not about the way it looks, but the way we perceive it from our human perspective.

🐾 Help Us Pawsitively Impact Maynard Dog Park this Giving Tuesday! 🐾

Hi Maydog Pack!

Happy Giving Tuesday! As we gather to celebrate generosity and the spirit of giving, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible community that makes Maydog and the Maynard Dog Park thrive.

Our beloved dog park is a hub for furry friends and their owners to come together, play, and build lasting connections. The joy and happiness that emanate from the wagging tails and playful barks are a testament to the positive impact of this space.

However, as we wind down this Giving Tuesday, we're reaching out to our fantastic community to help ensure the continued success and operation of the Maynard Dog Park. Maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for our four-legged companions requires ongoing efforts and financial support.

Your generous donations can make a significant difference in preserving the magic of the Maynard Dog Park. Here's how your contributions can directly impact the park:

Maintenance and Upkeep: Regular maintenance is essential to keep the park clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. Your donations can go towards repairs, dog waste bags, trash can liners, tick treatment, and general upkeep.

Community Events and Programs: Maydog is committed to fostering a sense of community among dog lovers. With your help, we can organize more events, training sessions, and educational programs to bring the community together and enrich the bond between pets and their owners.

To contribute to the Maynard Dog Park this Giving Tuesday, please visit our donation page [https://www.paypal.com/donate?token=Zbje4snx6Z40xFeWewWhp8KyPI1Tlj3oz30WGI3Zst_GI3_5BpPStwuRgqFXObgalwIb3f3OFyYJ5SnT&locale.x=US]. Every dollar makes a difference, and your support ensures that the Maynard Dog Park remains a vibrant and cherished space for our furry friends.

Thank you for being a crucial part of the Maydog community. Together, we can continue to create a paw-some haven for our dogs to play, socialize, and thrive.

Wishing you and your furry companions a tail-wagging rest of this Giving Tuesday!

The Maynard Dog Park is operated and maintained by MayDOG volunteers, and YOUR participation is needed to keep it going. If you: (1) Care about the Maynard Dog Park and (2) Can play nicely with others and (3) Can commit an hour or two per month to keep the Park safely open and maintained... ...then....

11/28/2023

Just a reminder that if your dog has a cough or otherwise seems unwell, please do not bring them to the park. As you may be aware, there is a mystery dog illness that has been spreading in various places around the country so folks should be aware of upper respiratory symptoms in their own dogs and avoid contact with other dogs who may show symptoms. Out of an abundance of caution, we will be collecting the communal water bowls for a while so please bring your own water for your dogs.

Reunited! Great news out of Acton. Chance is home!
Chance's amazing owners followed ALL of MDM's advice from Lisa V and Mary M .They set up base in the parking lot in the woods Chance was lost in and brought multiple scent articles (bathrobe, pillow case, dog bed), steak with liquid smoke & neighbor's dog that Chance plays with. They saw him 30' away & sat on the ground to let him approach. He came in slowly, greeted the neighbor's dog, and approached the husband, who caught his collar. Great work! Welcome home, Chance!

Hey there, fellow Halloween enthusiasts and Maynard Dog Park pet lovers! 🐶👻 As we gear up for a howling good time this Halloween, let's not forget our furry friends and the dangers that lurk in the candy bowl. 🍫🚫

🐾 🍫 Chocolate Toxicity Awareness 🍫 🚫
Did you know that chocolate is a big no-no for our canine companions? 🙅‍♂️ Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which can be toxic to dogs. So, when you're sorting through that trick-or-treat loot, make sure to keep it well out of your pup's reach!

🚨 Signs of chocolate toxicity in dogs include restlessness, vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate, and even seizures. If you suspect your dog has ingested chocolate, contact your vet immediately or call a pet poison control hotline. 🏥
