Hi everyone! I wanted to give a little background on where acupressure is originated from, what it is, and a small example of how it can potentially affect our pasture friends! I hope everyone is having a fantastic Thursday!

It was developed by the Chinese over 5,000 years ago and they believed the body was at its healthiest when the body's essence, energetics, and spirit are in harmony and balanced with both internal and external elements. It's an ancient healing art used by fingertips to press on specific healing points on the horse's body.

It is used hand-in-hand with meditation, herbal remedies, massage, exercise, and dietary therapy to maintain wellness. Acupressure stimulates the body's natural self healing abilities, and promotes circulation of blood and Qi (life force energy) to aid in healing.

In traditional Chinese medicine, health is believed to be an expression of balance between the individual and their environment. Health is a manifestation of balance and when imbalances are present in the body, they are physically expressed in forms of disease. This gives the body the inability to adapt to changes in the environment, development and diet in the horse.

What are the effects of color in kinesiology taping?

Red- Stimulating; it raises energy level, vitality, and activity. It has a positive effect on the sensory nervous system, metabolism, and blood circulation. The color red is warming.

Orange- Cheers up, increases strength, but also can relax and alleviate muscle cramps.

Yellow- The color yellow cheers up and is warming (not as much as red). Energy is collected and is harmonized, and has a positive effect on glands and the lymphatic system.

Green- It is said to have the greatest healing and regenerating effects. It balances and neutralizes as well as calms, and relaxes.

Blue- Has a cooling, and calming effect. Provides physical relaxation, and lowers blood pressure.

Purple- Harmonizing and calming effect; can also be energizing.

Black- Actually, is not a color. Black is the absence of color. It takes away energy, so it isn’t recommended to use in a state of extreme fatigue and exhaustion. Black can be used for anchoring some tape applications to enhance the longevity of the application. Black anchors have little to no effect on the body.

Hey there! 👋🏻 I had an AWESOME massage session on this Halflinger Cross yesterday (Picture is at end of post)! There were tons of findings that we were able to work out, and get some really good releases!

My last post introduced the sessions that I offered and it went over some of the benefits that they gave to your loved equine friend!

Today I wanted to go over more in detail with cases that you do 🛑🚨 NOT 🚨🛑 want to give your horse a massage.

• Cancer- in the case where the cancer is isolated, massaging the horse could spread the cancer. Massage helps speed metabolism and spreads nourished blood throughout the body. In this case, could also aid in the spreading of cancerous cells.

• Fever or infection- Fever is the body’s response to fighting infection. Massaging the horse may increase the temperature of the Fever or spread infection, degrading the body’s natural healing process.

• Shock- when an animal is in shock, their blood pressure is already low. Massage is known to lower blood pressure which could lead to dangerously low blood pressure.

• Pregnancy- Massage is supposed to bring balance to the body, but when a mare is pregnant her body is meant to be hormonally imbalanced. Massage may stimulate the release of the hormone Oxytocin and cause premature labor.

• Infectious Disease- In the case of strangles, equine herpes, equine influenza, or other viral diseases, massage should not be performed because it will speed up the metabolic process and worsen the condition.

• Display of Neurological Symptoms- With the display of neurological symptoms, it can be a dangerous situation for both person and horse. Talk to your Veterinarian that sees your horse to determine if massage will be safe and beneficial for the horse.

• Skin conditions- Specifically ringworm, mange, and lice can be transmitted to people and other animals after contact has been made. Massage can spread ringworm and mange to other areas of the infected horse.

• In place of Veterinary Care- Although massage has many varying benefits, it should 🛑🚨NEVER🚨🛑 be used in place of Veterinary care.
