New study on IVDD in dogs show comparable outcomes with surgery vs conservative management! This is especially important to those who do not have thousands of dollars for surgery at a moments notice. In many of these situations dogs become paralyzed or partially paralyzed very quickly. This can happen during a simple activity like jumping off the couch or even just going to the bathroom. This is a common problem that is seen in the veterinary referral hospital and many times can lead pet parents to euthanasia of their loved ones due to their financial situation.
Wiggleless braces could also provide significant benefit for these dogs during recovery and in conservative management treatment protocols.

How do you exercise your older dog?

Exercising older dogs can be very challenging. Lois used to be a very active disc dog, loved to herd sheep and she still wants to do all those things. However, Lois was diagnosed with a heart condition called Mitral Valve Prolapse. She is stable, takes meds everyday but has some serious exercise restrictions now. Lois enjoys visiting new places, sniffing around and hunting squirrels. When she goes for walks she wears a Wiggleless Back Brace. How WiggleLess Was Born

Mini Long Haired Dachshund, June, had been Lisa’s inspiration for creating WiggleLess® back braces for dogs. When June was just two years old she began to have back problems that resulted in emergency room visits, strong medication and confined rest.

“I was shocked to learn that June had intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and that her quality of life could be compromised forever. The thought of her having back surgery or living with doggy wheels if her spine was compromised truly concerned me.”

Nursing June through two long back injury recoveries gave Lisa the opportunity to put her many skills and life experience to effective use. She had always felt a special kinship with animals and had been trained in animal massage therapy as well as animal communication. “I’ve had back issues myself and they always flare up at the most inopportune times,” says Lisa. “I could relate to what poor June was enduring. I knew she needed more than strong medication and crate rest—it simply wasn’t enough to prevent future injuries.”

Lisa recalled how a back brace had supported her when she had thrown out her back grooming a horse. She immediately searched the marketplace for canine back support, but found no back brace for dogs available at the time. With the help of a seamstress, Lisa designed a dog back brace to support her dachshund’s torso and lengthy spine. June wore the dog back brace throughout her recovery from her second back injury and it prevented her from twisting and wiggling. She recovered fully, but her back remained compromised. “June wore her WiggleLess® dog back brace a part of each day until cancer caught up with her —and as a matter of fact, so did Henry, my other dachshund.” says Lisa.
