Humane Society of McCormick County

Humane Society of McCormick County No-kill rescue for homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County. Adopt into loving homes. All-volunteer We offer low-cost spay to any cat or dog in the County.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs and find them loving homes. We are 100% funded by donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a county-run shelter. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

This playful pup is great with kids and other dogs, making him a perfect fit for a family-oriented home. With a little patience and training, Nico will become your loyal and loving companion. Found Dog: Clarks Hill (McCormick County, SC)
This pretty girl was found in Clarks Hill today. The Herring Hut scanned her for a microchip and she has one! Unfortunately, the McCormick County Sheriff’s Office found out that the microchip was not registered. They are working to see if they can find out the veterinarian that bought the chip. The dog is safe and the rescuer is going door to door to see if she can find the Owner. Please call The Herring Hut 864-333-2000 to claim. They are open 6 am -6pm.

It’s going to be hot so please stay hydrated. If you are going to be outside, it is recommended to wear a hat and lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothes, made from breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Walk dogs early in the morning or close to dusk when the weather might be cooler and carry water for them. Please make sure any outside pets have access to cool water.

Signs and symptoms of tick paralysis
Dogs usually develop symptoms within 2-7 days of being inoculated by a tick. Since tick paralysis causes an ascending paralysis, the rear limbs are initially affected. At first the animal may appear weak or unsteady because their rear limbs are weakened. The symptoms quickly progress to paralysis (inability to move) and the involvement spreads to the trunk, upper extremities, and head. Animals can die of respiratory arrest if the diaphragm becomes involved.

Remember to give your pets flea and tick preventatives.
