Humane Society of McCormick County No-kill rescue for homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County. Adopt into loving homes. All-volunteer We offer low-cost spay to any cat or dog in the County.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs and find them loving homes. We are 100% funded by donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a county-run shelter. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

Thank you to the M Club for their generous gift to help cats and dogs in need in McCormick County! Gifts like this can be life-changing to cats and dogs in need of food, vaccinations, spay / neuter, shelter, and care.

Representatives from the M Club met us up at the HSMC Thrift Store and then toured the shelter.

The M Club is a social group that takes care of its members and gives back to the community through donations. It is located in Modoc, SC.

Santa baby, just slip me under the tree of my furever family, you see I've been an awfully good girl, Santa baby, so hurry and find me a family tonight.

Athena has been our long-term foster. Through no fault of hers, she was abandoned and became a ward of the Humane Society of McCormick County. His past is vague; we have been her present, and she needs someone to provide her with a great future. Athena is good with other dogs and plays with two cats on her foster home. She will chase the cats but doesn’t hurt them.

It takes her a little while to warm up to folks, especially men. Once she accepts you, you have the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Athena will be the one wagging her whole body when you come home. She will be next to you on the couch watching TV and she will be the one lying on the floor next to your bed, waking up happy and ready to start a new day with her best friend.

She is not food-aggressive. She knows basic commands but is easily distracted if a squirrel comes into view. The ideal situation for her would be a caring person or family with a large fenced yard where she could run and play.

Athena is a wonderful companion, and she deserves a wonderful, loving forever home.

Update - Jockamo has been found but it’s very sad news. He was hit by a car on Sat evening. We are heartbroken but very grateful to the community for trying to help us locate him. We were able to bring our boy home, so we at least have closure. 🖤 🐾

Mary Jane is on Santa's trail! #HSMCShelterHappenings

The Parade was so much fun! We were #24 in line so we had a bit of a walk before reaching town. This is us walking towards town. The dogs did great. We brought Brisi, Mary Jane, Kayla, and Kia. Thank you for coming!

We are pleased to announce our relationship with PETSinc and their mobile van clinic operations to provide spay / neuter and vaccinations to our local community. Our kick off expo was held at the HSMC Thrift Store and it assisted the community with: 40 spay/neuter of both canine and feline. Counties included 1 from Lexington, 1 from Greenwood, 24 from McCormick and 14 from out of state. 42 animals received a myriad of vaccinations. HSMC spent $2600 in aide towards the services for the animals of McCormick County. We also partnered with our sheriff's office to secure locations throughout the county to bring this much needed service of spay and neuter as well as vaccines to our community. HSMC teams are helping the community with their pets one paw at a time!

We received a wonderful video of Ripkin who was adopted almost 3 years ago. Ripkin was in a great foster home and we knew he was an intelligent dog. It took a little time to find him the right home but it was worth it. Ripken now knows well over 250 words and phrases! Just check out his smile! #RescueIsTheBestBreed

This is the male dog with a neck wound that was reported as loose for several weeks at the Scott’s Ferry campground. Many people tried to catch him but he was too elusive. People left food for him so he continued to hang around. A couple of HSMC volunteers and their relatives spent many hours gaining his confidence and it paid off. He is now named Pizza and he is only about a year old. The HSMC dog shelter is very full and we were very happy when he went to a great foster home. We don't say it enough but THANK YOU to the many volunteers that stop to give the HSMC cats and dogs a little extra loving and even go up before and after shift to spend quiet time with them. This is Pawlina, an 8-year old gal. She would probably prefer to be an only dog and has been at the shelter for over a year. #Grateful #HSMCHasTheBestVolunteers

Update on Winter and Willow: These 2 cuties (sisters) were found running in the middle of the road earlier this month. No Owner was found. They are now HSMC pups. Winter and Willow are 9 months old and they only weigh about 24 lbs. They are healthy and will be spayed soon. They will be available for adoption in the near future. [email protected]

We have a wall of pictures of some of the beautiful pups that have been our guests in the doggie hotel. It brings back sweet memories. Enjoy!
