Horse Heroes Homeschool Fall Session!

We are excited to bring back the Horse Heroes Homeschool program for Fall 2024. The Homeschool program is a Horsemanship program of 4 sessions (on Wednesdays) focusing on Horse Behavior & Body Language, Nutrition & Horse Health, Horse Breeds & Colors and Basic Groundwork & Liberty Technics. Each session builds upon the children's skills where by the end of the program, they have more confidence with, and knowledge of horses. It is important the child can participate in all 4 days.

This awesome program is open to children 7 years and older or at 2nd grade reading/writing level with a genuine interest in horses and learning all there is to know about them! Is this your kiddo? Sign them up by September 14!

Firefly Adoptive Home update!

The updates from this home are special, as this sweet girl originally came to us so upset with humans, biting and charging at everyone. For her to now allow tummy rubs from her loving new owners is a huge milestone in her Journey of Hope, and shows that time and patience are often our best tool. She is now a teddy bear when haltered and is a rockstar under saddle going new places. Thank you Kathleen and Butch for all the updates and giving this girl all the love she deserves and needs to make up for!

Bo heard it is Hay Day on September 14, so he’s trying out his costume for the big day…

This pretty boy is doing well, his breathing has improved and we are slowly getting to work with him to see what all he knows!

Mini Horse Heroes - Fall Sessions OPEN!

Calling all preschoolers to join us at the ranch to learn about horses, meet, groom & lead mini horses and get to ride a pony! Sessions are 2 hours on Saturday Mornings for 2,5-5 year olds. Many dates still open for September, October and November.

Welcome Dolly & Catillac Black…

Dolly is a sorrel mare in her twenties, who took this little yearling, black Cat under her wing at her previous home and so they arrived together. She desperately needs groceries and gain back her strength while Cat has an old hip injury we hope to help him with. They round out the current quarantine crew!

They are the sweetest duo, and we will do our very best to help them get healthy again.

Welcome Little Bay aka LB…

Have you ever seen a kinder and wiser face? This sweet gentleman also arrived this past week and quickly made friends with Cheech. He is in his twenties and comes with some lameness issues, and needs to strengthen up a bit. We can’t wait to get to know this amazing soul further ❤️

Welcome Cheech!

And just like that our quarantine runs are full again with four new intakes, all from different walks of life…first we introduce “Up in Smoke!”Cheech is his call name, and this big boy OTTB is 10 years old and most recently was a hunter jumper, but has not done much in sometime. He’s in needs some weight and already got a much needed trim. We are excited to evaluate him & learn what his capabilities are for his next adventure.

Come Enjoy the Ranch before Summer is over- This Saturday!

Bring your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors to our upcoming Community Volunteer Days and Open House on Saturday, August 24 from 9:30-1:00! All ages are welcome and no horse experience is needed! We’ll start the day with a FREE pancake breakfast from 9:30-10:00. You’ll get a tour of the ranch then we’ll move into the corrals to scoop p**p, fill water troughs, and meet the horses. No need to RSVP, just come on out!

*If you are interested in becoming a returning Volunteer, let us know when you arrive, and we’ll provide you with the more in-depth training needed to come back anytime to help out.

Adopted! Sisco & Peanut

Exactly a year ago these two arrived after their elderly owner could not care for them any longer. Peanut was so attached to Sisco that we separated them, so to successfully be able to evaluate them individually. She quickly found a best friend in Toffee, who was adopted a few months ago.

Neither had done anything for a decade and although Peanut was eager to go go go again, Sisco needed an extra helping hand to get restarted under saddle and spend four months with Daniel of Versatile Equine.

How special that their paths rejoin and this duo has now found a loving home with their own duo, a mom & daughter who will give them the world! Thank you for adopting Sisco & Peanut ❤️

This handsome well broke ranch horse is looking for a lighter riding situation as he moves into his twenties, and possibly could even be a children’s horse. Claggett Rey Gallery in Edwards is a long time supporter of MVHR and they have a beautiful event coming up.

You are invited to "Cowboys North & South" on August 10th from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. This exhibit is honoring the influences of the historic author and artist from the 1920’s, Will James. The gallery will be exhibiting over 50 artists and artisans who have been inspired by his writings and graphics.

Chonco!

This 40+ year old girl deserves the world! Just this past week she got fancy new fly boots and a bath. She loves the water! Who wouldn’t, it’s been toasty hot the last few weeks. All this before she left for a wonderful foster home where she can rest, gain weight and thrive! We will dearly miss her, as she is a hoot, but know she is on amazing hands!

You go girl! ❤️ Chonco is fostered but still available for adoption!

Harley!

The sweet boy that came to us in desperate need of the right food has joined the herd! He gets daily turn outs now and this was his first day getting his big bowl of mash in pasture!
He is doing well and we hope he keeps it up! Look at the shine that returned to his coat! It is amazing what good nutrition does to a horse once it receives the right amount of food!

We have shared a lot about our need to Feed the increased Herd and the number one resource is hay at the rescue, but grain is a close second so senior horses like Harley can receive the many pounds of grain they need daily!
