Did you know.... Dogs look to their owner for protection when faced with a threat. Too often new dog owners think that their dogs should fend for themselves and act tough. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our dogs look to us for leadership and protection. For example: You are walking with your dog and you allow a strange dog to approach you and your dog, your dog takes this as a threat and because you allowed this and did not protect him from the threat, fear takes over and your dog enters the fear or flight mode. Usually your dog starts barking and acting aggressive. Once your dog notices that this behavior worked, the aggressive display intensifies. This is the number one reason of reactivity in dogs.
