What a fun festive day at R Double J Ranch! Thanks to everyone that attended and participated at Deck the Stalls . A special thanks to Hailey & Onyx for showing off some trick riding! Thanks to Sophie, Gracie & Blue for a little meet and greet. A HUGE shout out to ZRG Photography & assistant Buddy the Elf and for the special guest appearance by Mr. Grinch himself. A Night to Remember at R Double J Ranch

At R Double J Ranch, we had the honor of hosting some truly incredible guests, the Mayor of McHenry City, Mr. Wayne Jett, and his children. Despite his busy schedule, Mr. Jett found time to bring Alexa and Greyson for a memorable horse experience, showcasing the heart of what our ranch is all about.

The joy and excitement on their faces as they saddled up and rode with "R" amazing lesson horses were truly heartwarming. The laughter, the smiles, and even their eagerness to come back soon to muck stalls made our night special. It was a beautiful reminder of our intention: to create a welcoming haven where the community can come together, share in the joy of horsemanship, and build lasting memories for all.

At R Double J Ranch, we're more than just a barn – we're a community. We're committed to making the barn a place where everyone feels at home, whether they're riding, learning, or simply enjoying the serene surroundings. Thank you, Mayor Jett, Alexa, and Greyson, for being part of our vision and for bringing so much happiness into our barn tonight.

🧠 Thirsty Thursday – Knowledge Addition 🧠

There is an old saying “if there’s no hoof, there’s no horse”, which still rings true today. It's a saying that shows the important role the hoof plays in a horse’s wellbeing. The exterior layer of a horse’s hoof is made of keratin—just like our fingernails and a rhino’s horn. Like human finger and toenails, a horse’s hooves grow continuously. In just one month, the average hoof gains a quarter-inch or more. At this speed, an adult horse grows a “new” hoof in about a year.

Did you know that the hoof actually does a lot more than serve as a surface for a horse to stand on? Horse's feet are obviously important, but they're important in ways a lot of people don't realize. For example, horse feet are built to give these 1000 pound animals necessary traction over varied surfaces. When a horse puts their full weight on their foot, the hoof expands. And as that weight is distributed to another foot, the hoof flexes and contracts to "grab" whatever surface they're standing on. This creates a gradual stop that allows the horse better control over their movements. Besides traction, horse feet also absorb shock to protect joints and circulate blood all the way up a horse's long legs.

With so many important jobs to do, horse hooves need regular care and attention, and R Double J Ranch is so grateful for the farrier’s that take such good care of all “R” horses’ feet!
