Exactly one week ago today Liz Halliday, who recently represented the United States at the Olympics, sustained a significant head injury, while running the Advanced Cross Country at the American eventing championships.
We have been following her progress, and happy to share some bright news!

Scary phone call that we had a whole section of pasture fence down from the storm cut our boating fun short.
So grateful to the guys for getting everything back safe for the ponies in short order.

Crazy storm, but what beautiful views after. 😍

Very successful outing for the ACF crew at Fox Valley Saddle Association mini!!

Brookelyn and Elton stole the show finishing on their dressage score of 29 not only winning her division, but the TIP High Point as well! This kid works harder than anyone and absolutely rocked around on a horse she’s only been riding a short time. Incredibly proud of her. 🥰

Judy Stutts-Howells sweet Oliver finished 3rd with a 4 point improvement in dressage and just one rail in SJ (my oops).
He was an absolute blast around the cross country of course. Judy has now changed his show name to “Golden Ticket” and it is spot on for this wonderful guy. ❤️

Roscoe gets the most improved 🌟
Award!
Scoring a 31 in dressage, and a wonderful clear SJ. We had one momentary loss of power steering on the XC and had to double back to a jump which cost us a 20. But I took a chance and chose the water option, and although he had not been schooled through water in six months, he was absolutely super!!
He is such a fun horse and really maturing into a sensible type.

Also had to include some photos of Brian and Jennifer Dougherty’s precious Pearl and her adorable pony Leroy.
(I might have shed a couple of tears watching her)

A huge shout out to our talented photographer Frank!! 😘

And thanks to the friends and family that braved the heat to cheer us on! 🙏

Round one of cold hosing has begun….🥵

There are some of you out there that understand what a big moment this is…

Frank had everything put back together on Saturday and went to prime the engine and there was a feul leak. Nooooooooo

There was a brief moment where I thought I might need to seek some psychiatric help for him.

Instead, I went and bought him a chocolate shake from Culver’s. 🤣

Today…..success!!! 🎉🥂

Some days are better than others on a farm.
The 95 plus when the sweat drips off the tip of your nose the second you start your morning….or the 10 below when you can’t feel your fingers well enough to even begin to break the ice to even open the barn door….. not so much.

But tonight was one of those perfect moments. Light breeze. 65 degrees. NO mosquitos. Beautiful sunset. Happy ponies in the background.
Building a new course didn’t feel like work at all.

For those asking… broken crankshaft which essentially means a blown engine. We looked into a new truck, and decided to replace the engine instead.

Thank goodness Frank (MacGyver) has everything well in hand. 🤣

Photo shown is old and new engine side by side.

He fits in way too easily at only 2 years old.

Much more successful wrap up from Silverwood HT this weekend!
LOTS of wonderful Frank photos. 😊

I think my favorite moment of the day was the sheer joy of our whole group when Brookelyn successfully piloted Charlie around a double clear show jump.
One of my favorite things about the ACF team is how much everybody supports each other, regardless of how their day is going. A perfect example is Emily Grant (who had taken an unplanned swim in the water jump earlier) standing ringside with tears in her eyes as Brookelyn finished.
B has worked so incredibly hard with this young horse and she deserved every bit of the celebration. The announcer even chimed in with “that was a double clear round, and as you could see he is a GOOD BOY!”
What a wonderful moment. 🥰
With fairly slick footing on cross country, she made the very mature decision to call it a day after her success. ❤️

Joanne Mulvey took the best finish of the day in 2cnd with her wonderful partner Sammie.
I cannot express enough how happy I am for this incredibly hard-working pair. That mare may be 23 but boy can she jump, and I just love watching the two of them! The courses were taking their toll, and they were able to move up significantly with double clear, both cross country, and show jump!

Gina Rodgers was next with an eighth place finish with Remy in the largest division of the show.
They did not have quite the test they are capable of as lots of screaming back-and-forth from the barn, took its toll, but again double clear both jump phases left them moving well up the leaderboard, and obviously big smiles from both Gina and Rem.
It’s fun to see these two back together, and Remy is looking better than ever! (Gina had a heck of a time pulling her up at the end of XC) 🤣

As I said before, Emily and Molly were having a terrific day with one of their best show jump rounds ever. An unfortunate miscommunication at the water jump left Emily a little wet and a little humble. Molly is always the most incredible cross country machine and I give Emily so much credit for having a great attitude, and stating that she learned a lot and will take it forward to the next one!

I had three horses at the event. Elton put in a another solid dressage test with a 33 and then a beautiful clear show jump round which was the whole point of our weekend. I elected to not run him cross country and was just super happy with having my normal boy back.
Addie had a little bit of a swollen knee, so intended to not take her cross country. She was quite good in dressage even with all the screaming and scored a 35. I just had a stupid distracted moment in show jump and managed to TE myself. 🤷‍♀️
Roscoe was a pretty unbelievable baby horse and stayed in the dressage ring trying to behave, jumped clear SJ, and just 2 green stops on cross-country in the slippery footing. I was really pleased with him, and very excited for his future. ❤️

The support of family and friends was absolutely wonderful!
Having seven horses at the event was a bit crazy, particularly at a one day. We would never have pulled it off without all the help. 🥰

07/22/2024

Full wrap up of a much more successful day at Silverwood HT to come.
But thought I would share Elton’s SJ round.

After an out of character 6 rails and a CR last weekend in Ky I was grateful Lisa Cannata let me do a last minute substitution for Elton, as I did not want to head into a 6 week break with that on my mind.

He put in a lovely clear round with just 2 seconds of time.
Good boy. Very relieved. 🥰

07/18/2024

f course we have always thought she was special, but watching Gretta’s daughter Addie at only 5 years old spend the last 2 days teaching 6 year old Savanna how to trot on only her second ride ever, and 11 year old Hailey to canter on their first ever ride together…..Well …. A little piece of momma G is still with us. 🥰

It’s always fun to share a successful report after a competition, unfortunately this is not one of those posts. This sport is hard, and there are outings that simply don’t go the way you would like. This was definitely one of those weekends.

We had a pretty rough week starting with the plan to bring Cecil home from Wisconsin last Sunday. He had a different idea and we never actually got him loaded on the trailer. That was a first for us. I think he must’ve had some sort of sixth sense because 20 miles into our trip home. We blew the engine on our truck and found ourselves broken down on the side of the highway with a horse in the trailer two hours from home.
Enter dear friends, Jamie and Jason, who drove all the way up to Wisconsin to pick us up, which was ridiculously above and beyond the call. Still so grateful for their generosity. ❤️

With a lot of scrambling and with some more unbelievable generosity from friends we managed to get a truck and trailer to still make the scheduled trip to Kentucky for One and Done HT.
With the extreme heat and traveling in a different trailer they were unaccustomed to, the horses seemed a bit out of sorts when they got to the park.

Griff was sound asleep in his stall the next morning prior to dressage which probably should’ve given me an indication of his level of interest in competiing. 🤣

Elton and I had 6 rails in SJ that led to his first CR and Griff barely squeaked through with 4. Yikes.

I headed out on cross country Saturday with Griff, telling myself based on the heat and ground I would pull up if we had any issue. We had a stop at quite a large drop at fence six. We re-presented, he was a good boy, jumped down and was super to the corner at the B element.

I then intended to retire after the next “straightforward fence”. Unfortunately, we had a big miss there and almost took a tumble. (Final photo) When I watch the video, I’m still amazed he kept his feet underneath him and I stayed on.
I always feel like 95% of the time it is our mistake when these things happen so I take full responsibility. At the end of the day I was very grateful that we were both OK and able to walk away unharmed.

I try to look at the positives and I’m taking two things from this weekend. Elton put in a lovely fluid dressage test and achieved his pb at the level with a 28.
Griff not only put in a solid well-behaved test after no warm-up whatsoever (naptime lasted a bit too long) 🤷‍♀️but also showed me how genuine he can be by jumping down that big bank on the second attempt and being very bold to the corner. He also seemed very unfazed by our near miss and felt relaxed and happy walking back to the barn.

Both boys are headed into a well-deserved break for the month of August and hopefully will be fresh and ready to go this fall

Today marks three years since the world lost a beautiful person and inspiring athlete. As we reflect on Annie Goodwin’s life and strive daily to honor her memory, our pride in her accomplishments and legacy is overwhelming. In just two weeks, Fedarman B and Boyd Martin will take on the biggest stage in the sport of eventing. Seeing this horse that Annie so fiercely believed in and produced up to the 4* level, ready to make his Olympic debut, is the most bittersweet, full-circle moment. We know this story touches so many's hearts, not just those who were fortunate enough to know Annie in life.
In the spirit of Annie’s vision and legacy, the Aiken Horse Park Foundation in 2021 established the Annie Goodwin Rising Star Grant, to foster, support and develop Aiken’s young equestrians who embody Annie’s character and dedication in their respective sports. Should you feel so inclined, please consider donating to this fund, which provides a yearly educational grant to the next up-and-coming young equestrian professionals. More information and donation opportunities can be found at aikenhorsepark.org/annie-goodwin-rising-star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
While we are all , the family here at and, indeed, the wider eventing community will all surely be just a little extra during
We know Annie and her mother Tina, will be together, watching every second with pride.

A little progress update on our Irish import Roscoe. We are so happy to have Lauren spending some time at ACF this summer.
She took Roscoe on his first solo appearance in our jump field this morning and he was super. This youngster is starting to show the talent we have been hoping for. ❤️

A very steamy but productive trip to ACF south this week!
A bunch of work accomplished on the Pasture and prep to add more paddocks!

Always so grateful to Walker and Andria for their hospitality, and of course the girls love spending time with their boyfriend Frank (the dog) and Beans (the cat) 🤣

Thanks to Hallie and Rip for the use of their wonderful pool!
Great to see all our Aiken friends! ❤️

Also got to visit our sweet Bravo, who is absolutely flourishing in his new home with Amy Wise. 🥰

A brief wrap up of FVRCP horse trials this weekend as Frank had his good camera, more photos and details to come once we return from a short trip to SC.

Addie was significantly less “dragon like” and managed to finish 8th in BN.

I received this photo reminder of momma G yesterday.
She was pregnant with Addie that day at the same event.
Had us in tears when we put the 2 photos side by side.
💔

Emily and her wonder pony Molly had a super outing finishing 11th in Novice with a clear and fast run around XC yesterday.

Griff and I had the unfortunate experience of our first CR since the rule was created.
An uncharacteristic 6 rails after his last 3 clear SJ rounds has me super bummed and hoping this was a fluke. We will do our homework and hopefully be back in good form in Kentucky!

Wonderful day for the ACF crew at the IDCTA: Illinois Dressage and Combined Training Association at Fox Valley Saddle Association.
Frank had his good camera so sharing lots of pics.

Gina and Remy had a fantastic first outing and took home the win! It’s been many years since these two were a team and it was so rewarding to see their recent work pay off. Super dressage test clear SJ and Remy looked in her element back on Cross Country!
Gina’s smile says it all. ( I think Rem was smiling too)

Our Irish import Roscoe was second with a 10 point improvement from his last outing in the dressage ring. Just one green moment on SJ and XC. This horse is so talented he is a joy to ride and produce.

Judy’s new boy Oliver was absolutely perfect finishing 3rd. I had a blast riding him. An error on my part in the dressage (too many tests in my head these days 😂) but a flawless SJ and boy did he rock around XC! He was an absolute gentleman the entire day.
Judy is a lucky lady to have this boy as her partner. ❤️

Brookelyn and Charlie had their first go at Starter. I was so proud if them in the tough indoor dressage ring. He was very worried but tried hard and B rode beautifully.
Unfortunately the SJ course was a bit more intense then we had prepped for (completely on me) and got the best of them. We will do our homework and be ready for the next outing. What a lovely pair they make though.

We had lots of family and friends that came out to support which we are always grateful for! 🥰

A bit of a soggy weekend at Indiana Eventing Association HT, but no Cicadas!
Griff pulled off a super 6th place finish in the Modified with a decent test (35), a clear SJ, just one second over the time, and a wonderful clear cross country. Only 2.4 time in very wet conditions. The move up to Preliminary is next!

Elton also had a solid test with a 34. He was a bit tough in SJ which left us with 2 rails down.
We were having a super run around the solid Training track, when a leap out off the water, where no jump existed, put us off the rails. Disappointing but we regrouped and he jumped the rest of the course perfectly although at a nice easy canter.

I would love to say Addie’s debut at the level was stellar, but she was basically a nightmare the entire weekend. 👿 🐎
I know I provided much entertainment to those fortunate enough to witness our acrobatics in every warmup from the first day to the last. 😡
In spite of her irrational fury of being separated from Griff, (my apologies to our stabkemates in barn K) we completed all 3 phases with a 35 on the flat and just one rail in SJ and one green stop on XC.
I was absolutely exhausted by the end of my weekend with her.
Baby horse challenges…🤷‍♀️🤣
It was fun to catch up with friends and always enjoy HHP!

Frank met me from SC and of course was an incredible help in managing the chaos! ❤️ (He didn’t even set Addie free, although I know he considered it…)

Full wrap up of our weekend at IEA to come, but thought I would share my “unique” moment with Elton on Cross Country. This was a first. He decided there was a bank out of water that didn’t exist which made the 2cnd wedge near impossible. It was a bummer but bless him for being the overachiever he is.
