Look who decided to grace us with her presence!

After a 4 day hibernation while it snowed, she roared back to life for some exercise.

This has to be the MOST underrated animal on the entire planet! 🌎

A spotted hyena's beauty is radiant; the way their fur captures the sun is remarkable. Most don’t know this, but hyenas are among the most intelligent animals in the world. They are capable of solving complex problems as a group without vocalizing, making gestures, or even looking at one another. Duke University once conducted a study that showed hyenas outperformed dolphins and chimps in group problem-solving skills. However, the study was inconclusive because for the results to make sense, hyenas would have had to be reading each other's minds. Insane, right? Well, not even close. ☀️

Hyenas have a bite force of 1,100 PSI, can shatter a giraffe's leg bone, run for two days without stopping, and go TWO WEEKS without water. These powerful and intelligent animals take care of their own clan and form very strong bonds with those they love. 🦴

We associate them with villainy and scavenging because a greedy mouse told us it was so. In reality, hyenas kill 80 percent of their own food. Lions, on the other hand, actually scavenge more than hyenas. If we were to eliminate the hyena population, the grasslands would be decimated due to the antelope populations exploding out of control. Hyenas are the true conservationists of Africa and a beneficial part of a complex ecosystem. 🦌 🦁 🍖

🌨️🐾 **Winter Wonderland at Wild Acres!** 🐾🌨️

The last two days have transformed Wild Acres into a breathtaking winter paradise! While severe cold weather can be challenging for small facilities like ours, we took a moment to embrace the beauty of the snow and witness our incredible animals reveling in it.

From frolicking in the snow to exploring their winter wonderland, our animals have reminded us of the joy that nature brings, even in the coldest of times. ❄️❤️

Warmer weather is just around the corner in the following weeks and we have great news! Mammals and mimosas is back and several dates are on the calendar! We have several homeschool meet up events coming up as well and most importantly our valentine’s wine Safari is on February 14th. Genie and Gypsy along with Finn the cougar and the Patagonian Cavy’s are all enjoying this magical winter wonderland! ❤️❄️🐅

Genie is absolutely loving it while Gypsy is only coming out to see her human keepers and being sure to moan, groan and growl the entire time. 😂
