Second Chance Dogs is grieving the loss of Ellen Deal. She was an animal lover through and through. She started volunteering with us back in 2009 and worked her way up to VP on our Board of Directors where she served for 13 years.
When there was a dog in need, Ellen fought for it until the perfect home was found. If a dog was rescued and a foster home was needed; she made sure one was available. If we didn't have one, she found one. She loved dogs and kitties too. We were very blessed to have her love and leadership in Second Chance Dogs.
She was also a beloved elementary school teacher in Kent, Washington.
She was a kind, loving, dear friend to all of us.
On January 21st, Ellen peacefully crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and we know she was greeted by hundreds of rescue dogs, barking and wagging their tails.
Ellen, we all love you and will miss you very much. Rest in Peace our dear friend.

We are courtesy posting and trying to share Cobra in hopes he may get adopted. Please see below.

Hello, this is Cobra. I am trying to share him around and hopefully find a rescue that can pull him. He is at SCRAPS shelter right now in Spokane WA and he has just been sitting in a kennel with no adoption interest. I work at the local hospital and I’ve been trying to go visit him every day and take him potty. He is an incredible dog and I have no idea why he is still there. He is huge and has some usual big dog habits like jumping up and pulling a little on the leash. But when I’ve walked him by other dogs, he’s never barked or growled. Is anyone looking for a great dog? I can transport.

Dear Second Chance Dog's family,
2/5- UPDATE- So far we have raised $435. Please donate. Thank you for the ones who have. We love you!

We really want to help this family with their dog, Solar. They have already incurred a lot of expenses with him
and they need financial help now to save their dog that they don't want to give up on.

If everyone could give a little we could hopefully raise most of this to help Solar go through a 5 week board and train program. Solar is worth it!!

This is his 3rd family and he is only 6 months old. 🥲 Please help us help this family and Solar by making a donation today and include his name, SOLAR, so we know it goes to him.

The board and train is going to cost $4,200. We appreciate everyone's help and we know what a sacrifice it is to give in this day and age, so we want to say "Thank You" in advance.

Solar is scheduled to go to his training on February 16th, so we have about 2 weeks to raise this money.
Thank you so much! Here is our link.

https://secondchancedogs.net/donate/

Please read his story below from his mom.

We got Solar in November from a family who could no longer take Solar on. She got him from an accident litter, born in August. His next stop was a shelter.

He took to my family immediately and claimed my daughter as his person. The two have been inseparable.

Shortly after getting Solar, we noticed he grew anxious when out around people. At first, it was occasional growling, but then it turned into snapping and resource guarding my family. He was loving and kind at the vet one day, and 2 weeks later, he was growling and biting them. This carried into other social settings as well.

Solar was evaluated by a behavior specialist, and she said she thought it was PTSD. We got Solar fixed and started him on medication. We had an appointment set to begin behavior therapy.

In that time, I got the flu, and Solar became stressed and ate a sock, his belly got tied up and we used the last of our savings to save his life.

Twice in the week post surgery, Solar's pain got so great he began to lash out at family, showing some of the same behavior to the dad in the house as he does strangers. I became concerned and started to look for answers.

Time and time again I reached out to rescues for help, and the vet, and I was told it would be better to just put Solar to rest. Be humane and let him go. 🥲
Our behavior specialist encouraged us that Solar could be saved. I kept looking. I felt defeated and made an appointment with the vet to surrender him to be put down.😭

Later that night, Second Chance Dogs saw my message and reached out to me. They talked with me and said they had a trainer in mind who they believed could really help Solar. They gave me his number and I called him. I talked to trainer, Isiah and he said Solar is seen as redeemable with board training. We are very hopeful that Solar will succeed with behavior modification training at Next Step K9 Training.

Today was his evaluation and it's been determined that Solar's reactivity is 100% fear based. The goal through the 5 week program is to help correct the behavior when he is scared and to build confidence in his daily life to minimize fear experiences. He can be a normal and loving dog. He just needs help.

We are doing a courtesy post for poor Banjo. Her owner needs to find her a better home than what she can give her. Please contact Claire at
[email protected]

Here is Banjo's bio.

When I first got her as a puppy I lived on a farm, and she had another dog to play with and things were good. On the farm, she was socialized with chickens and goats but hasn’t been around them the last few months. Since I had to move four
months ago, things have gotten progressively worse. Affordable housing that allowed me to have a dog was nearly impossible to find, and as a result, I now have a commute of 40 minutes each way. She has pretty severe separation anxiety. She destructively chews anything no matter how many toys, bones, or kongs filled with treats I leave for her. I fear for her safety.
I essentially live in a studio apartment, and it seems no matter how well I try to puppy-proof, she gets into things. I have limited storage (no closet, no bathroom door). She has learned to open the few kitchen cabinets and drawers. The only safe place is up the ladder to my loft bed and I expect she will learn how to climb that soon as she is very smart. She has broken multiple glass items and cut her feet. I fear the day she ingests glass. She keeps giving herself diarrhea from the things she eats. The latest was cold medicine. I live in fear that I will come home to find her dead.
She needs frequent exercise and a yard would be ideal. My landlords have a small, fenced garden but I cannot leave her unattended in it for more than a few minutes. Due to her strength and over-excitement and my work and commute hours, it is difficult for me to walk her. My neighborhood has no sidewalks or street lights. We usually go for a run out in the woods on the weekends, but it just isn’t enough. I have had dogs my entire life so this is just killing me. I am concerned that she will ingest something that will kill her or I will be unable to pay for the vet bills necessary to save her if she does. I'm also concerned that I will not have my lease renewed.

Trainings / interventions tried before deciding to re-home dog: I have worked with her extensively since I first got her and she knows all the basic commands but she is getting more and more reactive and ignores them when around other people. I've talked with other dog trainers and done much research online. She was spayed in November, I hoped that might calm her down but things have continued to get worse. The vet prescribed Trazadone but the max dose has little effect. I have also used dog CBD but again little to no result. We considered Prozac but the vet techs were unable to get her still enough to take blood and they can't prescribe without blood work done first. I have her listed with several online rehome websites and on Craigslist.
PLEASE, if you know this breed and can handle her strength, please reach out.
Thank you so much.

GOOD NEWS~ Owner has been found and has shown proof of ownership. Suna will be reunited with her family shortly.
This dog was found in Yelm yesterday by a Good Samaritan.
Is there anyone that can foster her while her owner is found, or if not found, while we look for her forever home?
We know she has a sweet demeanor and loves kids at this point. We can help with introductions if you have dogs.
Please help if you can. We will provide everything she may need. Thank you.

This is a courtesy post for a sweet dog named Wesley. He is not a SCD dog.
He was left in a park and his chip found and owners were contacted. Sadly They didn't want him back and had rehomed him to someone else they couldn't remember.
Wesley is a pittie maybe spaniel mix about 1.5 years old neutered.
A kind Samaritan picked him up in a park in Woodinville...well he jumped right in her car sweet boy.
A vet tech is keeping him safe while looking for a good forever home that will love him.
He loves to play with horses and is a little to brave. He loves to sleep in bed and cuddle. He would be best with a calm easygoing female dog to play with or he can be an only dog. He weighs about 40 lbs. Wesley is Housebroken. He has never been kenneled. Love people and older children.
If you have any questions or would like to meet Snuggle Wesley please contact Darrien who is keeping him safe. Her number is 2062257631

Urgent Foster needed for a scared little pom chiwinie. 4yrs old female. Needs a quiet patient foster as she has been crated most of her life since covid.
Best in a home without children or other pets unless foster can slowly introduce to another dog.
She is starved for any attention, love and time out of a crate. She takes a day or 2 to feel comfortable with strangers.
We provide pre-approved medical and food, bed, leashes, tag collar.
Freya needs a foster. Please message us if you can help.

One of our SCD followers and supporters is looking for a foster home for her 2 cats that she loves so much. If anyone would be willing to foster these two, please reach out. Thank you. Here is what the owner says:
We had a house fire and we are rehoming our entire family temporarily until our home is rebuilt in the next 8-12 months...once State Farm pays out. In the meantime, our new temporary housing does not allow pets, as the homeowner has allergies. We love our cats (born in June 2023) who are brothers and who are very affectionate. However, we are looking for someone to care for them and give them a loving home until we are back in our house. We live in Graham, so if at all possible, we would love to keep them here in Graham. They are indoor cats only. If anyone knows someone who would be willing to foster them, please PM me. Thank you!

URGENT! IN IMMINENT DANGER!!
ONLY DAYS TO LIVE!
NEEDS FOSTER NOW!

ABUSED 9 MO OLD PUPPY IN NEED OF FEMALE FOSTER! HAS ONLY DAYS TO LIVE

Midnight is a Lab-Rottie pup who was taken in after being severely traumatized and is terrified of men but likes other dogs and women. He refuses to go into the house of the man who took him in after being rescued off the street probably because he has only ever been forced to live outside and was likely punished/abused for being inside.
He keeps going over to the neighbors to be with their 3 labs (other dogs make him feel safe and happy... he is a puppy and wants to play). The neighbor has said he plans to shoot the pup the next time he comes over the fence.

The current person is unable to keep him contained (because Midnight is fearful of men, when he tries to go near Midnight curls into a tight ball to try to protect himself) and make progress with his trauma and needs rescue assistance or he will be forced to take him to be euthanized within the week or the neighbor will shoot him.

He is only 9 months old and deserves a chance! He deserves to know love and kindness! In the assessment of trainers, he can be rehabilitated.

There are several rescue volunteers trying to raise funds for board and train which is $2800

MEET COCO: YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND!
Please message us if you are interested in meeting her to see if she would be a great fit for you and your family. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines.
Coco, our sweet and energetic Stafford Terrier, is ready to become your loyal companion. She is a fun loving dog with a heart full of affection, and she is looking for an experienced owner who can keep up
with her energetic spirit. Coco is loose leash trained, making walks easy, but she thrives with an owner who has the confidence and strength to keep her focused and engaged. She needs a strong, experienced handler who can set clear boundaries and provide firm guidance, as she can be a bit headstrong at times.

Coco’s ideal owner will be someone who understands the importance of structure and consistency. Setting boundaries is essential to help her thrive and ensure she is well-behaved both at home and in social settings.

With the right training, Coco has the potential to be an excellent obedience dog. Her intelligence and eagerness to please make her a great candidate for continued training, whether it’s obedience or even taking on the role of a nanny dog.

Coco has a natural affinity for people and could become a wonderful, protective companion with the right guidance.

Coco is great with people and loves meeting new friends, always eager to share her affection. She’s well socialized and enjoys being around other dogs and people, making her the perfect companion for anyone looking to add a friendly and social dog to their family. She is e-collar trained and she has great recall. She loves fetch and to run!! She also knows many commands.

Her energy levels are high, and she’s up for an adventure, whether it’s a jog in the park or a fun play session. But when it’s time to relax, Coco loves nothing more than cuddling up with
her favorite human, offering plenty of love and kisses.

If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and loyal dog who will keep you active and entertained, and are ready to provide her with the structure she needs, Coco is the perfect match for you! Adopt her today and bring home a companion who will fill your life with joy and love.

Please message us if you would like to meet her.

This is a courtesy post for 2 beautiful 5 and 3 year old English Bulldogs.

Brooklyn is a 5years old spayed female English Bulldog UTD on vaccines.
She is best in a home without small children per her owners who said she nipped bit her daughter.
She is housebroken and smaller than her brother.

Bronx is a neutered male 3 year old English bulldog UTD on vaccines. He loves his sister, treats, playing with toys and snuggling.

These are not Second change dogs but a courtesy post for the owners of Bronx and Brooklyn.
They had to make a difficult decision that is best for the future of their family with children and the 2 adorable dogs.

They don't want them to go to a shelter. Ideally they would love them to find a new forever home together but ...they can be rehomed separately. Please contact the owner Charity if you want more info or to adopt these 2 beautiful cuddlers. They are located in Auburn WA.
Charity's p #2532326948.

Our Story

Second Chance Dogs was founded by a group of 5 determined women who, for years, independently helped "in need" dogs transform from their current situations. In July, 2009, we joined forces and started Second Chance Dogs, a non-profit organization in an effort to help more dogs in more ways. Each director brings to the organization their own special gift, wand when combined, allows Second Chance Dogs to offer a variety of services to help rehabilitate and find loving homes for these dogs.
