Courtesy post for Erica and Keta.
Trying to rehome our lovely 2-3 year old female Akita and hound mix.
My son rescued her when when she was about 6 weeks old.
We kept her after he moved out because his living area doesn’t allow large dogs.
However I am highly allergic to her and we are now moving out of state and to a smaller place.
Please help in finding her a new home.
She is great with kids and other dogs. She loves discovering new things in walks or going to the park.
No medical issues
My number is (707) 601-7933
Thanks

This is a courtesy post for Madison and Bear. Bear is in need of a new home and this is what his foster, Madison has to say about him.
This handsome boy is Bear. He is a 1 year old unaltered male - German shepherd and Rottweiler mix. He is a rescue, and is currently living with a foster family. He is about 120 pounds. Bear LOVES people. He wants to be best friends with everyone he meets. He has also been around children ages 4-16, and does great. He is friendly towards dogs, but can be overwhelming to some due to his size. He has been around cats and doesn’t seem to pay them any mind. But sometimes wants to offer a playful “bop”, so he should be supervised around cats or small dogs. Bear has not been socialized much outside of his normal circle, and can easily be frightened by new things. He knows his name, and knows “sit”, but isn’t command trained otherwise. He is very eager to learn and he loves treats! He needs a family who has a lot of time, patience, understanding, and love.
Please contact Madison at 707-498-0422 if you are interested in learning more about Bear.

Just having some fun in the sun with Oakley and his new favorite trick, backwards circles. Next goal...backwards figure 8s.

Sending a huge thank you to our Humboldt County Animal Shelter. The past week I have been helping to recapture a feral dog who was adopted into a home by another rescue. She escaped within the first hour and had been out for about a week. The Missy trap I built came in handy and Spirit was captured. But getting her from the trap to a crate proved beyond my skill. HCAS was quick to arrive on scene and ACO Pedersen lent her amazing handling skills and, most importantly, her kindness to maneuver Spirit into the crate and then to the safety of her new home. I am grateful for the support of all involved in this re-rescue.

Super proud of Oakley! We have been working a lot of choice and control games lately and it has paid off. He used to break position when a toy or food was tossed. Now, he waits to be released and has become more interested in working for tug than ever.

I got to see Rocky yesterday! He was the first of Gypsy's pups to leave the rescue and he has gotten so big.

I have been working with Oakley on having him do a backwards circle around me for our next Tiktok dance routine. Today he got it! We need to shape it some more so he is not hopping on his butt, however, I find his butt hopping to be rather amusing.

Oakley is gearing up for summer days ahead and looking sharp.
He's also still looking for his forever home. If you are looking for a smart, loyal companion Oakley may be the one for you. He does have some special considerations given his initial skepticism towards new people, so please message us for more details if you are interested in learning more about Oakley and his story.

Our local shelter is bursting at the seams with adoptable animals. Here are a few of the wonderful dogs I met over the weekend.
Please contact the Humboldt County Animal Shelter at 707-840-9132 to arrange to meet and adopt one of the amazing dogs, cats, bunnies, rooster, or rats that are looking for a forever home.

Oakley is quite the cute snuggler, but he is also very smart. Here is a good list of the things he has learned in his time here.
Sit, Down, Heel, Stop, Wait, Stay, Touch a hand target, Loose Leash Walking, Come, Whistle Recall, Inside, Go To Bed, Crate, Muzzle, Hugs, Place, Stand on Hind Legs with a hand signal, Shake or Paw, and he will Wave Hello. We are working on Fetch and he enjoys a good game of tug. I almost forgot his favorite cue..."Is you hungy?"

They have taken Xula from a neglectful situation that resulted in Xula being just skin and bones with a litter of puppies to now, being a healthy, happy girl who now needs a home. Here is what they have to say about her...
Meet Xula (pronounced “choola”). She is looking for a forever home. Xula is a ~3 year old lab/foxhound mix who has had a very tough life until she was at Wet Noses. She is currently being fostered in San Diego, California.

Xula was rescued from an extreme case of neglect and possible abuse: she was tied to a post in her owners backyard with 8 newborn puppies. She was very malnourished and sadly two of her puppies passed away.

Luckily, Xula recovered well and her 6 puppies are now adopted throughout the pacific coast. Now, it is Xula’s turn to have a home.

Xula loves to be with other dogs and is best suited for a home with at least one other dog. Although she likes people too, she thrives with other dogs as her role model. Xula can be fearful around men, and needs an experienced owner to be her leader.

Xula is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She would make a wonderful dog for an active couple or family that is experienced with dogs.
Please contact Wet Noses if you are interested in learning more about Xula or want to bring this girl into your life. [email protected]

Raise your paw if today is your birthday!
Hannah and her siblings are 4 years old today. We'd love to see photos and pup-dates if you adopted one of Gypsy's puppies. And of course we hope Gypsy is doing well too.

He will let you know when he's hungry. Oakley is still looking for that elusive forever home. While some of his time here was dedicated to behavioral rehab, it's been 3.5 years and not one call of interest. Hoping 2022 is his year.

Happy Holidays!
Santa Paws paid Oakley a visit. Seems he was a very good boy this year.

With the passing of Frodo, all of the Victory Dogs are now gone. They showed the world that despite one's background or history, change is possible. They proved to be true ambassadors for their breed and that love overcomes all. Rest peacefully, sweet ones.

Happy Thanksgiving from Oakley and I.

This is a courtesy post. Please contact Valerie if you want more information about Cinda.
Name: Cinda
Breed: Greyhound/Pit Mix (I think she has other breeds but haven't had her DNA tested)
Gender: Female
Age: 4 1/2
Contact: Valerie Franklin (707) 834-2946
General Temperament:
Cinda is a beautiful, sweet dog that loves people (of all ages) and has a lot of energy. She is playful, smart and loves her toys and affection. She is not good with other dogs, especially on leash and on her own property. She is indifferent to cats and has been fine around them. She has been spayed and is up-to-date on all of her shots. Unfortunately, she is in need of surgery for an ACL tear in her back leg and I am unable to take the time off of work to get her to Medford for the surgery and in addition, she will need to be crated for three weeks after the surgery. It will be another four to six months before she is fully able to resume what she loves to do most - that is to play fetch. She loves her tennis ball and is the best "chuck it" dog I've ever seen. Because I work 8+ hours a day, I am not able to provide her with the care that is required. With that being said, I would be willing to pay for the surgery. This is breaking my heart, but I don't have the option of keeping her.

COURTESY POST Please contact Joy if you can help Daisy
It breaks my heart, but I need to find a another loving home for Daisy, a year old female mastiff/Doberman mix. She is a beautiful dog and with people she knows she is very loving and playful. She was rescued from Louisiana where she was hit by a car twice and has scars from wounds that were not properly attended to. In her first California home, she lived with several other large breed dogs and was at the bottom of the totem pole. Unfortunately, she was picked on by the other dogs quite frequently. She was hit by a car again and at that point her owner had to find another home for her as she did not have a safe place to nurse her back to health. I think this history has created some confidence issues with Daisy. I have tried to integrate her into my home, but unfortunately, her propensity to chase cats is creating too much stress and tension for our elderly cats and family. Daisy does have challenges that need to be overcome. She is reactive toward strangers, barking when people approach the door or if she sees them through windows. When taken to my work where she spent her days in my office (to give the cats at home some space), she was initially fine, but after about 4 months, she had several episodes where she nipped at people she knew. She did not actually bite, but she appeared to make an attempt. Since that time, she has spent her days at home with my family, but the cats have had to remain locked in the bedrooms. She is very shy when she first meets a person, but with time and treats, she warms up. Once she is comfortable, she is very loving and seeks attention. She loves running and chasing her frisbee. She appears to get along with other dogs once she has had a chance to meet them. Ideally, she needs a home where she has a lot of room to run and an owner who is able to spend a lot of time with her and is able to help her work through her challenges, the home should not have cats. She is current on all of her vaccines and is on heartworm/flea/tick preventive. She is scheduled to be spayed in the next couple of months. If you feel you may be that special someone that Daisy needs, please contact Joy Fox-Beaudet at Arcata Animal Hospital (707) 822-2402.

Oakley learned to back up his ramp today. Figured he needed something new to learn and it helped to smooth out his nails after his trim earlier.
