Our super star Cream Puff reconnected with his brother Moose this week! Cream Puff and Moose were brought to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter the first part of 2023. Moose was adopted October 2023; this was there first time seeing each other in over a year. They had a great walk around the marsh and we hope they’ll get together again!

Cabo had a fun day yesterday! It started with packing up his belongings for a trip to meet a possible adopter. That meeting didn't result in an adoption as their little old female was definitely not interested in having Cabo come home with her family, despite some pleading from the resident teenager who hit it off with Cabo immediately! Since we were already at the coast on a beautiful day, we took a hike to Hidden Beach in Klamath. So many good sights and smells! After a nice hike it was back in the car for the ride home. Have we mentioned what a great traveller he is? Whether going around the block or spending three hours in the car, Cabo is always a good boy and he loves the rides! He loves to be with his people, has been living with cats and learning those rules, is great on the leash and is unbothered by other dogs, and is just a great overall companion. Cabo will be wating in his foster home for the right match; could it be you?

On Friday several one month old puppies were brought to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter. We picked the three up on Saturday and brought them to one of our fabulous puppy fosters. They are settling in nicely and are so cute!

Cabo has been described as one of the easiest dogs we have ever had in our rescue! Cabo is estimated to be about 7 years old and is a big gentle boy. He is quiet, easy-going, and happy to do whatever is being asked of him. Cabo's very favorite activity is riding in the car. He sits in the back seat like he is being chauffeured!

Cabo also enjoys getting out for walks around the neighborhood or anywhere his people would like to go. He has been non-reactive, even when unleashed dogs have run up to him. At home, he likes to have a few toys to carry around and park on his bed. An earlier foster let him sleep on her bed (and described him as a bed hog!) but didn't allow him on other furniture which he respected. At his current foster, Cabo completely understands that the bed is for the humans and just rests his head there, demonstrating how respectful he has been about any boundaries that are set.

He is very affectionate and loves any attention, repaying it with kisses if allowed. His foster mom says that Cabo loves playing outside or going for walks but has been equally happy just hanging out inside if that's what the humans are doing. She says he's been amazing at learning new things and has overall been a great guest! He is doing well around the foster’s three cats.

There are so many bonuses in adopting an older dog. They tend to be a little calmer, have good house manners, and are familiar with things like cars, leashes, and paying attention. Cabo is a great example of this! He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and weighs around 70 pounds. Mark your calendars! Wednesday January 15th is another opportunity to come hang out and have a drink for Redwood Pals Rescue! Redwood Curtain Brewery in Arcata is donating 1$ off every beer for the day. There will be live music in the evening as well! They also have cider, wine, kombucha, and root beer if you aren't a beer drinker.

Our smart, beautiful, goofy Sweet Pea is settling very well into her new foster home. Her previous foster could only have her through mid December. We are so thankful for our fosters; whether it is fostering short term or long term, it is a huge help either way for us! Her new fosters had this to say:

“She loves toys, cuddles, walks, and probably most of all - she loves snacks!! She is so food motivated and smart that training is (mostly) easy and a lot of fun! If you are looking for a smart, trainable dog and want to spend your evenings cuddling - look no further!! She likes snuggles and enjoys being covered with a blanket when she is calm and resting. She does a good job sleeping in her crate at our house (with a nice bed and cozy blanket), but would prefer a home where she could sleep in bed with her humans. Sweet Pea (aka Ruby) doesn't mind that it is cold out, it gives her the opportunity to wear different outfits!”

Sweet Pea (nicknamed Ruby) is around 2 years old, is house trained, and rides well in the car. Reach out to us if you’d like to meet her!

Cream Puff is a very sweet, affectionate, and loyal dog. Despite his size, he really is just a big baby! Please contact us here or email us at [email protected] if you are interested in fostering or adopting Cream Puff.

Cream Puff recently had a slumber party with some friends! Here is what we learned “It was so much fun! He is such a well mannered fellow around the house (though it was clear he is not accustomed to the sounds of appliances!) He was very patient with all the attention he got from the girls and respectful of our boy. Lots of zoomies were had!”

His fosters say “Cream Puff is a wonderful house guest. He gets along with every dog he has been introduced to, or at least does his best to get along. I believe cats are a possibility; he is interested in them when he sees them, but doesn't pull or bark. He is nervous about strangers, but warms up very quickly with a few treats or a little affection. He is very potty trained.”

Cream Puff is about 4 years old and weighs 80 pounds. He rides well in the car, takes treats nicely, and loves to play with other dogs. He enjoys lounging in the sun and cuddle time.

Redwood Pals has taken in several puppies recently. We often send puppies up north but even our northern partners are experiencing some slower adoptions right now. We'd like to offer these two cuties locally which will allow us to help more puppies. First up is 4 - 5 month old Hoss. Hoss has this to say -Did you know that I could be considered the world champion ball fetcher & high jumper for my weight class? If you’ve got a strong arm & love throwing a ball as much as I love chasing it, you should hit me up so we can become a championship team! I love playing all day long with my human & doggo friends, even kids are fun! Everybody loves me because I’m the life of the party. I sit & come on command. And after a nice warm bath, I will get the zoomies like you’ve never seen! I love bully sticks & playing with toys and my absolute favorite is the grunty pig. It’s so funny, just like me! And when we pause the games, I’m a loving goofball who never met a belly rub I didn’t like. I want to be part of any active team that will include me in everything..
Next up is 10 week old Nala, Nala says - I'm ready for a new life with lots of warm hugs n kisses. I’ve got a short, silky, smooth coat that shimmers in the sunshine. I have lots of energy for long hours of running with my K9 friends and playing with my stuffy toys. I get along with all my doggo friends and kids are lots of fun too. I love Yak cheese or bully sticks & enjoy warm baths. I am just learning about life and it takes me a minute to understand new people and places. I just want to be where you are, and when playtime is over, I’m very happy to curl up next to you on the sofa or bed where I feel safe and warm.

Redwood Pals Rescue is so fortunate to have supporters who step up to foster when there are dogs at risk! These folks offer a safe landing for dogs who might not have seen another day. But they are there to help temporarily, not add another dog to their homes. We have several dogs that would love to find their forever homes, but failing that, really need to find a new foster. This is not because the dogs are a problem. Far from it! But fosters have vacation plans, family obligations, other pets that need attention. Can you help us find these good dogs their forever homes? Or do you have room in your heart and home to foster for awhile?

We will be featuring several dogs over the next few days that could use your help, starting with this boy Dax. We do have a possible place for Dax in the next few weeks, but the current foster has other obligations very soon (like now...) Please read about Dax and contact us if you can help.

Hi my Name is Dax. I'm a medium sized Dutch shepherd dog, about 55 lbs. My favorite things are chasing balls and playing tug and going for walks and couch snuggles. I am really interested in smells and love to go on adventures. I like to travel, and I can ride inside with people or in pickups if they are covered or have a crate for me. I have lots of friends, people and dogs too. I enjoy a good run every now and then, but I also like taking naps. Sometimes I am shy with strangers, but everyone I meet now is so nice and friendly I am getting to actually enjoy it. Especially when they give me treats! I'm super smart and kind of sensitive, so I learn best with positive reinforcement and I just have a blast learning new things. I know how to sit, and lay down, I'm doing verysuper well walking nicely on a leash and coming when I'm called and I'm starting to learn some tricks like nose touches, paw touches, and spins. I'm interested in Rally and agility, but I haven't tried yet.

It's all quiet this Thanksgiving morning but two weeks ago Dead Reckoning was rocking! When we count our blessings, we are so grateful to owner Theo Brown for doing a Pours for Pups to benefit Redwood Pals Rescue! The community came out and $800 was raised. Thank you Theo and RPR friends!

Midnight has some skills!
Midnight has some skills!

Midnight is having so much fun in foster and is learning many new things! Her foster says “Midnight came with me to sweep up the skate park today and was showing off her parkour skills. She uses the ramps in my backyard for zoomies but I have never seen her in action on big ramps. She’s got a whole fan club at this point. I’m not sure who my friends are coming over to hang out with, me or her 😂”
