Her joyous light will be missed deeply by our community.

Last night, the world got a little dimmer. Actually, it got a lot dimmer. Kerri, our groomer of over 12 years, died unexpectedly surrounded by her family.

Kerri was a fighter in all senses of the word. It makes it hard to believe this is real since she was so strong; she seemed invincible. Kerri was a fierce protector of her family and friends. She was someone you "didn't want to mess with"! We jokingly made Kerri the "working interview" person - we figured if you could "pass" Kerri, you were good enough for the rest of us! She had a work ethic that was insane and expected the same from those around her.

She was also sweet as pie though. I teased her that she was all talk and was really just a big ol' teddy bear. She would do anything for anyone. Even if she didn't have it, she'd donate time, money or belongings to someone else in need.

She had a neighbor with a pitbull who was very itchy and had a horrible ear infection. She got permission from him to bring in the dog and paid for the entire workup and expensive chronic meds for the dog because she felt bad for the older man and the dog he loved but knew he didn't have the means to access vet care. In one final hurrah - Kerri is an organ donor and will be saving many other lives in her passing.

When I notified the team of her passing, stories from prior team members and current team members came rolling through. Ways she touched each and every one of our lives.

One person said "I just think about when I was still in kennel and she got us all a little thanksgiving meal to all eat on a blanket in the kitchen like a picnic together".

Kerri attended all the baby showers, birthday parties and weddings. She loved a good party and excuse to have fun! She'd come to all our kids birthdays with her granddaughter, Kinlee (pictured). She would bring her to work sometimes and she was so proud of her - she loved to show her off.

Kerri would always come by my office each day to talk for 30 minutes or so before she started grooming. She would talk about how strong her mom was and how much she looked up to her. She'd talk about her son's - one of whom used to work for us! She'd talk about her grandbabies. She'd talk about her ex-daughter in law who she still considered a daughter and loved dearly. She'd talk about "Bear" - her boyfriend and all the modifications he was helping her to do her Jeep. She told me about her dogs and funny things they'd done the night before. She was proud of her life and the people in it.

We are all better for knowing Kerri and will be left with a huge hole in our lives and hearts. We love you dearly, Kerri. We are so sad that we won't see you coming down the hall and I won't get to joke around with you all the time. I hope Heaven is filled with all your favorite things and lots of doodles and kitties to groom. RIP.

After a major turn of events with upcoming neck surgery, I’m asking all of my clients “please be flexible & patient while we diligently work to find a qualified groomer to take care of our clients for at least the 3 months I’m healing.”
