Some things to know before adopting a glider...Did you know?...
-They are nocturnal, which means they sleep during the day and are most active in the evening through the early morning.
-They need to be handled and loved on daily. Once they're bonded to you, they'll happily snuggle with you for hours.
-Sugar gliders love company, so it's definitely recommended to have more than one. In the wild they can have colonies of up to 12 gliders!
- Suggies need large cages in order to "glide" around and remain active so they don't get depressed. They are very intelligent and need to have lots of toys (changed frequently to keep stimulated) and a running wheel (not all wheels on the market marked "glider safe" are actually safe). Raptor wheels are the best.
- They need a very strict diet of fresh produce and protein. There are several glider safe diets. The staple diets include:
* BML β Bourbonβs Modified Leadbeaters (the diet our gliders are on)
* TPG β The Pet Glider Fresh Diet
* AWD β Australian Wombaroo Diet
* O-HPW β Original High Protein Wombaroo Diet
* GO-HPW β Green Original High Protein Wombaroo Diet
There are others, but these are the most common.
What people LOVE about sugar gliders...
- They are extremely playful and loving creatures that can keep you amused for hours.
- Once bonded to you, they love to "snuggle" under your shirt or in a travel pouch around your neck.
- Unlike other pocket-pets, they can live up to 15 years.
I always recommend doing research on any animal you're considering adopting. If after doing this you decide sugar gliders are right for you, please contact me and I'd love to help you add a suggie to your family!
