Neutering your male pet is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

Neutered pets are typically less aggressive, less likely to urine-mark their territory, and less likely to exhibit mounting behavior.

Plus, neutering helps reduce the risk of certain health issues, and can prevent overpopulation.

Did you know that xylitol, a sugar substitute, can be DANGEROUS for your furry friends?

Dogs who ingest xylitol may develop severe hypoglycemia and liver damage, leading to a life-threatening situation. Be a responsible pet owner and keep xylitol-containing products out of your dogs' reach!

Counting calories and exercising daily are great ways to keep your pet at a healthy weight. But what if the number on the scale isn't budging? Your furry friend may have an underlying health condition that makes weight loss difficult.

Pets with metabolic and endocrine disorders, like hypothyroidism or Cushing's disease, often struggle with weight loss. Prescription diets and management of the underlying condition can help.

Once the condition is under control, weight loss becomes much easier. Need help managing your pet's weight? Call 972-540-2220 to talk to your veterinarian.

When interpreting your dog’s body language, it’s important to pay attention to subtle cues as well as overt signals. For instance, a slight shift in weight or a barely visible change in ear position can be important indicators of your dog’s emotional state. Learning to recognize these smaller cues can help you better understand your dog’s needs and desires.

There has been a lot of media about Librela in the last few weeks. Librela is a monoclonal antibody injection that has been approved for arthritic pain control in dogs.

I want to assure you that we have used Librela on only those cases that we feel will get benefit from it and not the cases where we have some concerns.

As an integrative practice, we approach western medications with caution. We read all the literature, not just the marketing materials. We listen to specialists that have been using the medication and what their experiences have been.

It’s not that we believe that western medicine is bad, it’s more that we understand that all treatment modalities have side effects. By understanding the mechanism of action and potential side effects we provide better recommendations for your pet and to help you understand when a treatment will benefit, and when alternative methods may be better.

With Librela, the mechanism of action is to block something called Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). There was and is some concern in using it in cases where the patient has potential neurologic degeneration. We have known this concern prior to it being released and when we started carrying it, discussed as a clinic when it should and when it should not be recommended.

We have only recommended Librela in cases where there is no sign of neurologic degeneration; in cases where arthritic pain is the only symptom present. It takes careful examination of a patient to know the difference.

At ACCSR, our mission is to help you and your pet. We take that mission seriously.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Millions of pets are euthanized every year at shelters across the country because there aren't enough homes for them all. One way to help prevent this problem is by spaying or neutering your pet.

This simple procedure ensures your pet does not produce offspring and add to the overpopulation.

Call 972-540-2220 to talk to your veterinarian about the benefits of spaying or neutering your furry friend.

Play, exercise, and training are all essential for building a healthy mind and body for your young pet. These activities allow your puppy or kitten to burn energy, learn commands, and understand acceptable behavior.

In addition, engaging your pet in physical and mental activities strengthens the bond between you and helps prevent problem behaviors that may lead to pet relinquishment.

Start your furry friend on the path to good health by incorporating plenty of play, exercise, and training into their daily routine. Call 972-540-2220 to talk to your veterinarian for more information.

We have started a new tradition of honoring all the angels we have lost this last year by creating individualized ornaments for our tree.

This new tradition creates a meaningful space to grieve, remember, and celebrate the unique bond you share with your pets, keeping their memory alive during this season of love and togetherness.

If you would like to collect your pet's ornament, please stop by and we will gladly help you locate it.

The pets we are celebrating have lost their lives between 9/12/23 (National Pet Memorial Day) and 11/27/24. They are forever in our hearts.....
