Horse Spotlight 💥 We have the greatest horses here at Diamond J Ranch. Meet Raven!

Raven is a 14 year old Thoroughbred mare. This girl had two careers, racing and jumping. Now, she has been enjoying her semi retired life as a trail horse with her human. They arrived at Diamond J Ranch about four years ago. She came in as an unofficial rehab and is now living her best life. Her favorite treats are carrots, and she is convinced she was supposed to be a trick dog. Her favorite hobby is w**d wacking. Raven is super smart and has a lot to say if you take the time to listen to her 💜🐴

The pastures are thriving with this rain!!! We overseeded annual ryegrass at 50 lbs/acre on Oct. 22, and the results couldn't be better. Pasture picture taken today, Nov 10, 2023.

We strive to keep our horses grazing - it's what is best for them, naturally. A lesser known fact is that a horse that grazes good pastures year round has a significantly decreased risk of colic. And in our 8 years of boarding 75+ horses, we have had only 4 incidents of colic. How many barns can say that?

Excited to share our newest addition to the ranch! Swarm, our Milking Shorthorn, had a gorgeous baby bull on 11/8. He is big, healthy, and vocal!

This lil guy should make a great show bull - looks strikingly similar to his sire, who is 3 1/2 in the picture.

If you are in the McKinney / Allen / Melissa / Anna / Princeton / Prosper / Frisco and surrounding areas, we may be a great fit for your pasture horse! We are located just 2 miles south of Melissa, in the Northeast corner of McKinney, with easy access to 75, 121, and 380.

We take pride in catering to those who agree their horse should be in a stable herd environment, grazing healthy pastures year round. We consider pasture management a top priority, limiting herd numbers to around 1 to 1.5 horses per acre. We also provide quality hay in pasture year round, overseed the pastures annually, and rotate grazing on half of the property.

Our facility boasts high quality indoor and outdoor riding arenas and a round pen - all with new footing installed in 2022. We have a large tack room, wash rack, stalls for medical needs, private feed runs, pasture shelters, and trailer parking available.

Welcome our new calf to the ranch! MooMoo gave birth to a healthy heifer around 11AM this morning. This is especially exciting since this is the first calf we bred with our friendly bull Blackjack!

Stalled for the cold freeze tonight, with a makeshift heater and blankets!

Excited to share the newest member of our herd, Swarm. She’s a Milking (aka dairy) Shorthorn and will be calving in the next month or so. Will pair up nicely with our Shorthorn plus bull, Blackjack.

Also happy to see our Angus/Brahman heifer, Moo Moo showing signs she’ll have her calf in the next couple weeks!

Howdy! We have officially launched "The Western Winnie" on AirBnb! Come stay in our 35-foot Winnebago Journey on the ranch.

This quiet getaway is nestled in the country yet less than 6 miles from historic downtown McKinney. Situated on our 20-acre working horse ranch, the outdoor space offers close-up views of the horses (you're just a few feet from the fence line!), panoramic sunsets, yard games, ambient string lighting, shade from a 50 year-old oak tree, and all-around relaxation! The interior is fully stocked and incredibly comfortable. McKinney has some of the best shopping and dining in the DFW metroplex. Downtown is incredibly walkable and somewhere you can easily spend an entire day, and then some.

If you are local and have guests coming into town, give them a visit to remember. If you are looking for a unique staycation, come on down! If you are passing through town with your horse(s), use us for layover boarding and your own accommodations. If you are a current member of the barn, come night ride and enjoy a unique experience with your horse!

We now offer single-use and monthly riding memberships! Includes usage of the outdoor arena, outdoor round pen, indoor arena, and the wash rack. This is great for folks who have their horses at their home or a stable that does not have riding facilities, or play day groups.
Monthly - $75 per month
Day Pass - $10 per day

This might be our favorite announcement of the day. We have converted our 35-foot Winnebago Journey into an AirBnb overlooking the ranch. Our members will have the unique experience of spending the night with their horse, night riding in the arena, and experiencing everything our ranch has to offer.

The space is incredibly comfortable and has all the modern amenities you’d expect from a vacation rental. Guests will appreciate the COLD AC for the Texas summer, central heating, a stocked kitchen, comfortable sleep spaces, and much more.

The outdoor space offers close-up views of the horses (you are just a few feet from the fence line!), ample seating, yard games, ambient string lighting, shade from a 50 year-old oak tree, and all-around relaxation!

Another hot summer but we're doing better than ever here at Diamond J Ranch!

We are always striving to provide the best hay and nutrition for the horses in the pasture! And when it comes to amenities, we've spent the last 2 years renovating every arena & round pen, built shelters in the pastures, and tons of "little stuff" along the way. Excited to have finished out our biggest improvement goals!

Its been a busy week at Diamond J!!

Last weekend we had the main arena tilled and groomed. Shout out to Keira and Sydney for spending several hours removing rocks - been a long time coming but it's looking great!!

Next we mowed the pastures and then overseeded with annual ryegrass, just in time for the long awaited rain. Then we aerated the pastures after the rain to help the grass establish and give the soil some lift.

Lastly we got our winter hay delivery and it's looking great! Our horses love this stuff and if you've seen our herd you know how healthy and happy they are!!

Such a beautiful sunset before some long awaited rain! We got the pastures overseeded with annual ryegrass just in time... always making sure our horses have healthy pastures for grazing!

We have some tiny visitors at the ranch! A monarch butterfly emerged from her cocoon this morning! 8 more are in chrysalis and should be emerging any day.

Anyone else ready for the cooler weather ahead? 🍂 DJR is home to many animals. In addition to the horses, we have 3 cows, 2 barn cats, and 5 chickens. It's safe to say that all of our animals, big and small, are excited about the temperature drop.
