It’s amazing to see how much people appreciate Cory’s craftsmanship—he truly has a talent for this kind of work. So proud of him and the barn we’ve built together!

Winter Reveals

There are seasons.
I love them all—
the gold of autumn,
the life of spring,
the warmth of summer.
But winter…
Winter comes differently.

It does not ask,
it does not wait.
It arrives like a sharp wind,
stealing breath,
stripping branches bare,
leaving nothing but what is strong enough to stay.

I have known winter in ways
the sky has never told.
Not just in frost on the fields,
but in the silences between words.
In the love that faded,
in the betrayals that came quiet,
in the hands that let go.

But winter does not only take.
It reveals.
It does not make me stronger—
it shows me what strength was already there.

It strips away what was never mine to hold.
the illusion of forever,
the glimpses of warmth.
And in the cold, in the stillness,
I see what remains.

Winter does not build me—
it uncovers me.

So I mustn’t fear the frost.
For I am the ground it thaws upon.
For in the quiet of winter,
I have seen myself.
And I am still here.

What an incredible experience at the Harness the Power Clinic with J9 Farms & FHAOK! Huge thanks to J9 for organizing such an amazing event and to the FHAOK for their support.

Lorelei’s journey has unfolded in ways I never imagined, and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunities this clinic has provided.

For those that could not make it you were dearly missed!

When I look at my old boots, they’re full of memories—taking care of Brody when he was sick, the first time I got on Lorelei’s back, building fences with Cory, Brooks, and Hudson, and helping build this barn. Every scuff, every hole, every bit of wear tells a story of long days, hard work, and moments that shaped me alongside the people I love.

My dad told me not to throw them away but to put them up in the barn—and I think he’s right.

With my Christmas and birthday money from my parents, I bought the exact same pair. And I told them, every time I put them on, I’ll say a special prayer for them.

So here’s to new blessings, and thanks for the journey, ol’ friends! 🥾✨

Today at work, I received the sweetest handmade yellow pen as a gift from Arden, a little girl who came to Brush Springs Stables for her birthday. Her mom is my coworker, told me that yellow reminds her of me 💛—a sentiment that truly touched my heart. Along with this special gift, my coworkers have also left me a few other meaningful trinkets. One of them reads, “Live like someone left the gate open!”—a perfect reminder to embrace life with freedom and possibility!

Working for a nonprofit agency supporting children and families, I’m reminded daily of the power of love, care, and kindness. With Valentine’s Day approaching, I wanted to share a bit of that love with you all.

May these acts of kindness inspire you, just as they have inspired me. And a special thank you to the incredible mental health providers, pouring their hearts into the lives of others. Your work makes a difference every single day!

Because of his approval, she is officially registered in the Mane Studbook, the highest recognition for Friesian horses. Grateful to have her to continue such a strong lineage! 🖤✨

Tonight, my dad and I attended the Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Association educational event by Lincoln County Extension on toxic plants. While we have a small amount of fescue remaining from decades ago, we confirmed that our eradication and management practices align with proper pasture care.

I was glad my dad invited me and thankful to be learning alongside him! Shoutout to the Cattlemens Association and Cody Linker at the OSU Lincoln County office for this event.

Learning as We Care for Our Land 🌿

At Brush Springs Stables, we’re working to create a healthier environment for our horses while preserving the natural beauty of our property. One of our efforts includes removing tall fescue and promoting native forage, which is better for our Friesians and local wildlife.

We still have a lot to learn, but this resource has been really helpful in answering questions about managing pastures and transitioning to native grasses. If you’re on a similar journey, this guide might help you🌾🐴

Converting Tall Fescue to Native Pasture

MOW, GRAZE OR BURN
- 2+ weeks before herbicide

SPRAY #1
- April/May OR September/October
- >6" and actively growing
- not stressed (drought/cold)
- 2 quarts/acre glyphosate

SPRAY #2
- Spot spray the next spring or fall

SEED/RECOVERY
- For Livestock: native warm-season grasses in May or following fall or winter
- For Wildlife: may not need seeding. If seeding, use some native grasses with many forbs.

Today I’m attending a hospitality conference hosted by Heritage Church, focusing on my own development and learning how to bring kindness and intentionality into everything I do.

I’m excited about the year ahead—continuing training with Lorelei and Avail, strengthening our partnerships with the community, and seeing how Brush Springs Stables can grow.

The homeland Friesian Association (KFPS) in the Netherlands hosts a yearly Stallion Show, and this year’s Grand Champion is truly special! He’s the son of Alwin, from the same place where bred Lorelei—Black Pearl Friesians LLC.

I’d love to breed Lorelei to Alwin of Black Pearl Friesians, but they’re too closely related. Still, it’s incredible to see these champion bloodlines also flowing through her!
