Today at work, I received the sweetest handmade yellow pen as a gift from Arden, a little girl who came to Brush Springs Stables for her birthday. Her mom is my coworker, told me that yellow reminds her of me šŸ’›ā€”a sentiment that truly touched my heart. Along with this special gift, my coworkers have also left me a few other meaningful trinkets. One of them reads, ā€œLive like someone left the gate open!ā€ā€”a perfect reminder to embrace life with freedom and possibility!

Working for a nonprofit agency supporting children and families, Iā€™m reminded daily of the power of love, care, and kindness. With Valentineā€™s Day approaching, I wanted to share a bit of that love with you all.

May these acts of kindness inspire you, just as they have inspired me. And a special thank you to the incredible mental health providers, pouring their hearts into the lives of others. Your work makes a difference every single day!

ā™„ļø Lovely Lady Lorelei ā™„ļø

Lorelei carries the legacy of her sire, Lolke 371 Sport, an approved Friesian stallion known for his athleticism and exceptional pedigree. Because of his approval, she is officially registered in the Mane Studbook, the highest recognition for Friesian horses. Grateful to have her to continue such a strong lineage! šŸ–¤āœØ

Tonight, my dad and I attended the Lincoln County Cattlemenā€™s Association educational event by Lincoln County Extension on toxic plants. While we have a small amount of fescue remaining from decades ago, we confirmed that our eradication and management practices align with proper pasture care.

I was glad my dad invited me and thankful to be learning alongside him! Shoutout to the Cattlemens Association and Cody Linker at the OSU Lincoln County office for this event.

If you have concerns about toxicity in your pasture, you can reach out for testing: https://extension.okstate.edu/county/lincoln/

šŸŒŸ Celebrating Local Talent & Family! šŸŒŸ

I love empowering others, embracing their gifts, and supporting them in every way I can. My incredibly talented niece has been capturing stunning moments at Brush Springs Stables for years, and I am beyond proud to share that she has made the Voterā€™s Choice for Best Portrait Photographer in the Best of 405 ballot! šŸŽ‰

She is not only an extraordinary photographer but also a dear wife to my nephew and the amazing mother of my great-niece. Her work speaks for itself, and I would love for you all to support her by voting and helping her gain this well-deserved recognition!

Learning as We Care for Our Land šŸŒæ

At Brush Springs Stables, weā€™re working to create a healthier environment for our horses while preserving the natural beauty of our property. One of our efforts includes removing tall fescue and promoting native forage, which is better for our Friesians and local wildlife.

We still have a lot to learn, but this resource has been really helpful in answering questions about managing pastures and transitioning to native grasses. If youā€™re on a similar journey, this guide might help youšŸŒ¾šŸ“

Converting Tall Fescue to Native Pasture

MOW, GRAZE OR BURN
- 2+ weeks before herbicide

SPRAY #1
- April/May OR September/October
- >6" and actively growing
- not stressed (drought/cold)
- 2 quarts/acre glyphosate

SPRAY #2
- Spot spray the next spring or fall

SEED/RECOVERY
- For Livestock: native warm-season grasses in May or following fall or winter
- For Wildlife: may not need seeding. If seeding, use some native grasses with many forbs.

Today Iā€™m attending a hospitality conference hosted by Heritage Church, focusing on my own development and learning how to bring kindness and intentionality into everything I do.

Iā€™m excited about the year aheadā€”continuing training with Lorelei and Avail, strengthening our partnerships with the community, and seeing how Brush Springs Stables can grow.

Pictured below is Gabe Eliserio, Defensive Coordinator and Director of Player Development at OBU, presenting part of todayā€™s session!

Enjoy this short video of Availā€™s half-brother, Wibout 511, who made it to the junior championship at the KFPS Friesian Stallion Show! Both Avail and Wibout share the same incredible sire, Thorben 466 Sport Elite of Black Pearl Friesians LLC. Congratulations to the owners and everyone involved in his success! Itā€™s an honor to see such exceptional bloodlines connected to our program here at Brush Springs Stables.

The homeland Friesian Association (KFPS) in the Netherlands hosts a yearly Stallion Show, and this yearā€™s Grand Champion is truly special! Heā€™s the son of Alwin, from the same place where bred Loreleiā€”Black Pearl Friesians LLC.

Iā€™d love to breed Lorelei to Alwin of Black Pearl Friesians, but theyā€™re too closely related. Still, itā€™s incredible to see these champion bloodlines also flowing through her!

Hereā€™s of the Friesian Stallion Show and the Grand Champion himself.šŸ–¤šŸ“

Our Roots and Reflecting on a Magical Year As 2024 draws to a close, Iā€™m inspired, to reflect on the milestones and connections that have shaped this year and share the roots of our story with you. We had a great time at the Friesian Horse Association of Oklahoma Annual Christmas Party at Castle Driver! The medieval theme made it all the more magical, complete with costumes, trivia, and a gift exchange. šŸ°āš”ļø

Iā€™m excited to see Hudson dressed up medieval and share that Cory won the prize in the horse trivia contest! šŸŽ‰šŸ“

Thank you, FHAOK, for hosting such a fantastic event. Looking forward to next year! šŸŽ„āœØ

Lorelei and our FHAOK friends had a wonderful time at the Friesian Clinic! A big thank-you to our hosts at J9ā€”Janine Regier, Carl Martinā€”for making it such a great event and Lisa Driver for sharing these photos! For those who could not make it-you are missed šŸ¤—.

I walked outside and, to my surprise, found Cory training Avail to load into the trailer! Trailer loading has always been one of my biggest challenges, so itā€˜s such a relief to see her loading in and out so smoothly and Cory taking such an interest in these girlsā€”heā€™s got so much natural talent. Oh, and he even fixed Popā€™s trailer door by welding in reinforcements. Truly a jack of all trades!
