Crate manners and no jumping!
I am working with a lil puppy at the DeKalb Animal Shelter. I have been working here since Dec and work with these dogs periodically. Not as much as I’d like to recently, but that will change soon!
This is Shine. We are working on being polite to come out of the crate and not to jump on people for love or toys.
It’s so important to teach them while they are young that jumping is not acceptable. I hear it all the time, “they are so cute and little I don’t mind it.”
They won’t be little forever and it’ll take a lot of stress and work on your part to change their jumping habit when their bigger.
Just set your expectations early and they will be easier to handle when they are full grown. 🐾
Romeo was my office buddy today. He is learning his sit and down commands. He is very good motivated and smart!

Clyde is a 2.5 year old Lab/ Hound mix that weighs 60 lbs. He is currently unaltered (awaiting appointment).
Our first snow! The kids loved it and Ragnar tried his hardest to catch it.
Loose leash walking with Cooper.
My expectation is he doesn’t pass my leg. He can go to the end of the leash to my side, or behind me but he cannot pass my legs or pull.

Ollie and Archie learning about Stationing with the kitties Hobi, Loretta and Zeus.
Stationing teaches them to wait their turn and be optimistic while the other animal is getting their piece.

What words do you use on your walks?
Here I demonstrate Let’s Go and Oops/Easy with Kate during our walk today.
These can come in handy once mastered when you are working your dog off leash.
Fun with Harley after a lesson. 😍. Our new trick.
Kate has a lot of conflict around the “out” or “aus” command. The moment the word is said she begins to brace and prepare to keep her tug.
So here I am saying “can I have it” and calmly putting my hand on it. If she goes to pull it away I say “nope” and we try again. I am not locking it to my legs as I would normally do, or holding on to it when she pulls ways.
Once she releases it on her own, I say “yes” and the game of tug will start again.
I am loving the results! ❤️❤️
She is even starting to drive the tug into my hands to start the game instead of playing keep away. 😍😁
For a dog who was reluctant to bring the tug back toward me, bring it near my hand or even think of releasing it, Kate is doing much better. Thanks @coachforcanines for the added advice yesterday. I think that is going to make the world of difference and take the conflict out of releasing the tug. ❤️
Working Kate at the park while I wait for my daughters lesson to end.
Ecollar heel with Kate during my daughters baseball practice.
A beautiful evening hike brought to you by training and the electronic collar. 🤣.
