In late 2012 Rick and Carla Thaler experienced a couple of events that rocked the foundations of their beliefs and made them take a good look at their priorities. After years of struggling to fulfill the dreams of others we decided it was time to pursue our own dreams. If we were going to have to rebuild from the bottom up it should be in a manner that makes us happier, has a greater impact on our

community, and most of all doesn't harm others. So over the last several years we've been developing a plan and a new foundation. Between the two of us we have a diverse set of skills and are developing businesses that will provide us the cash that is still necessary even in a sustainable life. Along the way we'll continue to work on our little homestead with the goal of creating a "homesteading institute" that helps to reconnect people with their food and keeps traditional arts and crafts alive.
