Meet our newest resident, Fernando, formely Bandit.
Fernando came to us thru our friend Thonetta Bartlett.
Fernando wasn't abused, he was just given up due to the owner's health declining. He is a beautiful, tall, 3 year old standard gelding. He needs to learn ground manners but is extremely sweet and love to be brushed. We were told he has been alone for the past year. He sure came to the right place. He already made friends with Steve and Bandido. Videos of them playing to come. I am guessing he is going to be pretty tall. His feet are a bit crooked but with a few trimmings, should be back to normal.
Fernando could use a sponsor :)

For those who haven't seen the update, Andrew was found!!!!
I got a message from a rancher in Cochise, saying Andrew was in their cow pasture. They have been feeding him and giving him water. Apparently he appeared about 3 weeks ago, they didn't know about Andrew until about a week ago when a friend showed them our post.
They don't see him everyday and he is on an 800 acre pasture.
We are so excited to be reunited soon. The rancher is going to see if he can locate him this morning.
Catching him will probably be difficult but at least we know his whereabouts and that he is ok.

We also had a very sad day. We said goodbye to our dear beloved Chongo.
Chongo came to us in 2016, he was 32 then. We promised his owner that we would take care of him til the end. He outlived the 2 owners he had in his life.
Chongo was such a fun, full of personality, mule. He also had anxiety and was very difficult to deal with.
He loved Lady, my paint mare.
When we first got him, he fell in love with her, and when we took off to shows, he would hop in the trailer and we couldn't get him out. He had to be with his Lady.
He was doing really good until a couple of weeks ago, when the cold came, he started having a hard time moving. He was 40 after all. We opted to spare him from pain and suffering. It was a hard one to say goodbye. He went with Lady by his side.
Run free big Chongo. You were loved.

We got Dr. Allred to come out today.
Jojoe finally got castrated, 17 residents got their teeth done, phillis has had a swollen cheeks for about a week now, not really sure what the problem is but keeping an eye on her.
Any donation is always appreciated..we wouldn't be able to care for them without your help.

Well we sure didn't have the best week. Truck broke down, expensive fix, quad to feed the donkeys broke down....will be super hard to feed now.
On the other hand, when Jacque was in Tucson for her clinic, she delivered Beulah and Winston to their new, hopefully forever, homes.
Beulah had been with us for many years, it was hard to let her go, but I am very happy for her. She will be friends with an older mammoth jenny.
Winston came to us with the Alpines from Cleburne a few months ago. He was just a sweetheart and will be friends with an older half blind horse.
Happinass!

Our Story

Hello, We are a 501 (c)(3) donkey/mule rescue and sanctuary located in the white mountains in Alpine Arizona. Our mission is to try to help unwanted donkeys, mules and horses that are in need of a home because their people can no longer care for them or have been abused. We are home to around 50 equines, mainly donkeys and mules. Some of the animals are re-homed thru adoption with contract. Some are not adoptable and are long term residents of the sanctuary. We rely on donations and fundraisers to care of the residents. Thank you for your interest and your support.
