Hello everyone,
With 14000+ followers, we are hoping to get a few donations to help us continue our mission. Any amount is appreciated. Not sure how much is a starbuck cup of coffee is but if you could give one up a week, that would help us so much.
As most of you know, we take in unhandled, abused, mistreated donkeys. We work with them to try to rehab them and make them suitable for adoption. Sometimes no matter what we do or try, some of these donkeys are damaged beyond repair, very sadly. Right now we have Jimmy, he arrived to us from Idaho in September, Jacque and I have been working with him. He has improved some but after all these months, I am not sure he will ever be able to go to a new home and be a loving relaxed donkey.
I can halter him, he leads some but when touched he flinches even after all these months. He is still very scared. We have the farrier coming Wednesday, we will tranquilize him and trim his feet and turn him out with the herd so he can be himself. I thought I would be able to get him to the point where I could pick his feet up but it's not happening. Jimmy is one of several donkeys that are that way thanks to people.
Jimmy was captured from Lake Pleasant in 2015, was sent to Montana to a sale, wasn't adopted, went to another sale and wasn't adopted. Was sent to Idaho where he was finally adopted to a decent home. He was wild, the adopters couldn't handle him, they kept him 1 year, got their incentive money, let him go to people with sheep, who kept him for awhile, and who knows where else he went until he landed at a rescue who sold him for 200 to some people who kept him for a couple of years, then he was surrendered to the rescue where we got him from. All this time, it looks like he was never handled, or mishandled, how sad is that. I feel that Jimmy has been let down big time and deserved better.
He is good with us now but it takes money to take care of all those permanent unadoptable residents. That's why we need your help. We are home to over 50 donkeys at the moment, that doesn't include the mules and horses.
Thank you in advance.

Whitney, letting me touch her face for the first time❤️

Whitney.
Whitney came to us about 3 weeks ago from northern az, used for roping.
She has been so frightened, it's really so sad. I think she had a lot of human contact but never in a good way. I have been spending time with her everyday and she is making such great progress. It's very slow but so rewarding. We will get there. Video showing her taking treats and finally for the first time letting me touch her nose some. I am so thrilled.
What a sweetie, also a mama to be❤️

Hawk, Sunday, Pumpkin and Pearl.
Hawk came to retire with us, I believe is he 22.
Sundae,Pumpkin, and Pearl have been with us for many years.
Pearl is perlino and is blind, she was rescued from a certain death of being shot by the rancher who raised her because of her blindness. She was treated very badly and has been living with us all these years. We got her at 2, she is now 18. She is a happy sweet girl.

Call out to some hard working guys! We would not have been able to do all the work by ourselves and are so lucky to have this group that is always willing to help out with the big jobs. Robert, Lorenzo, Reese, and Elijah came out yesterday to help start replace old fencing with some nice heavy duty 6 foot tall panels! It looks great and will be so nice when completely finished. After a long day of work, we had a delicious BBQ and fire.

We still have some t-shirts available!Check them out, all proceeds go to the residents.

We are starting this again in the hopes to raise money for the many permanent residents!
So many have been sent to us by people giving up on them or by their guardian angels knowing they will be safe with us.
Some of them will stay here with us for a very long time if not forever, due to being damaged beyond repair because of the abuse they have endured and/or they have been bounced around and mishandled too many times.
We are so sad about these poor animals, and there are so many out there. When we are asked to help, we can never refuse because they have no good safe place to go. Most rescues are full, dog and cat rescues, equine rescues, we are all in the same boat.
Our goal is to help as many as we can. The problem with the damaged ones is that it is really hard to rehab and rehome them.
That's why we have so many at the moment.
We know so many donate to the big organizations but this little family rescue also needs help in order to continue to help all in need.
We have 14000 followers, which is really amazing.
How about donating just $5.00, $10.00 or more.
Any amount is really appreciated.
We have had extreme vet bills since December. And we also need a lot of senior feed and hay!
You can also donate thru zelle at

Venmo at luckyaranch
Since FB changed its policy and they charge a fee, we have had very little donations. Without donations, it will be hard for us to continue our mission
Thank you in advance from all of us at the Lucky A.

We had a long day today. Went to Siver City to pick up Albert, he is all better finally, we don't really know what happened, maybe an allergic reaction.....we are glad he is finally home after 2 weeks.
We also brought Snoop, our new addition and Dominic, Thonettas mini donkey, to get castrated.
All went well.
Snoop is 4 years old, according to Dr. Allred. He has his permanent teeth.
No wolf teeth on either of the donkeys. Both are recovering well, and all 3 are happy to be home.!

Meet our newest residents, Whitney and Snoop.
They arrived yesterday. They were advertised in Northen Az as pets or roping donkeys.
They both have been used for roping by the previous owners.
Our friend Thonetta drove all the way from Eloy to Northen Az to pick them up so they wouldn't end up in the wrong hands. I must say, she paid a pretty penny to get them.
We were told that both were found somewhere in a canyon on the reservation, in different parts, so we don't think they are related. Snoop was just a baby then.
Whitney is a petite, very frightened black jenny, age unknown and probably bred.
Snoop is a young jack, not as scared but not very friendly either. He is super cool looking with dread locks
He will need to be castrated. The sooner, the better.
We don't think they are halter broke so we will start working on that.
Welcome them to the Lucky A.

Our Story

Hello, We are a 501 (c)(3) donkey/mule rescue and sanctuary located in the white mountains in Alpine Arizona. Our mission is to try to help unwanted donkeys, mules and horses that are in need of a home because their people can no longer care for them or have been abused. We are home to around 50 equines, mainly donkeys and mules. Some of the animals are re-homed thru adoption with contract. Some are not adoptable and are long term residents of the sanctuary. We rely on donations and fundraisers to care of the residents. Thank you for your interest and your support.
