Sadly we had to say goodbye to our dear Phillis. The test results came back and it was positive for cancer. It was growing very fast. Phillis started to lose weight as the swelling kept her from eating. We had to help her. We couldn't have her suffer. I took her to Silver City this morning to Dr. Allred. She went very peacefully.
Phillis came to us in 2017 with her best friend, Carla, from the Bowie killpen. They were 2 peas in a pod, never away from each other. Carla passed away 2 years ago.
Phillis was very sad and lonely. She went to a foster here in Elfrida to be friends with an old mare who had lost her old friend. They bonded really good and kept each other company until she passed away recently, and that's when Phillis came back to us.
We sure will miss her. She had the best personality and what a sweet girl she was. We loved her beautiful smile with her giant teeth.
Hopefully, she is reunited with Carla and they are both having so much fun celebrating.
Rest in peace sweet girl, say hi to Carla for us.
Love always❤️❤️💔💔
Running a rescue isn't for the weak, especially if you have oldies, the more you have the more you lose, so very hard 😭

We weren't sure if Andrew and Austin missed each other because each seemed fine on their own.
Well, they did because look at them playing, it's heartwarming❤️❤️

Guess what?
Andrew is home, as sweet as ever. He is looking great too.
We got a call from the rancher, they had him in a pen. What better way to start the new year.
I am pretty sure something happened at the place where he escaped from because he had never acted that way before. And now he is back to his old self.
We are so happy he is finally home!

Happy New Year!Best wishes for 2025

Every morning I feed Gus a mash, he is 22 and started to lose weight. Soaked pellets and beet pulp help him keep it on.
He gets so excited when I call him.
Turn the sound on, Gus is so cute :)

Who remembers Fatty?
The extremely obese girl who came to us a few months ago.
She finally made it out with the herd for the first time. She lost so much weight, and her feet are so much better, thanks to Jacque for trimming her regularly.
The start of her new life❤️

Thank you so much, Josh and Tanya Greer, for all the goodies from our Amazon Wishlist. We really appreciate you❤️❤️

We need good vibes coming our way.
Our dear Phillis, who came to us many years ago with her friend Carla, who passed away a couple of years ago, has a growth on her cheek.
It started about 3 weeks ago, we noticed her cheek was swollen.
Of course we thought abcess, talked to the vet, gave her meds,no change. Dr. Allred came for a farm call and examined her, still hoping it was from a tooth, he floated her teeth and said just to wait and see in a few days.
She also had a lump right under her jaw.
Well nothing happened, no draining or nothing. Overnight, it seemed like it doubled, and more lumps appeared.
We took her to Dr. Allred yesterday. He is thinking it could be fast growing cancer, but he took a sample and is sending it to the lab. Sometimes miracles happen. Let's hope.
It will take about a week for the results.
Phillis is in good spirits and is still eating and drinking.

Our Story

Hello, We are a 501 (c)(3) donkey/mule rescue and sanctuary located in the white mountains in Alpine Arizona. Our mission is to try to help unwanted donkeys, mules and horses that are in need of a home because their people can no longer care for them or have been abused. We are home to around 50 equines, mainly donkeys and mules. Some of the animals are re-homed thru adoption with contract. Some are not adoptable and are long term residents of the sanctuary. We rely on donations and fundraisers to care of the residents. Thank you for your interest and your support.
