Kermit got to go on his first trail ride today with a horse and mule! He definitely tested me a few times when we first left, but once he realize he had to keep going he was a pro! He rode on a loose rein and hardly spooked at anything. This sweet boy gets to stay with me till July for training!!
Axel is coming along. Poor guy is very scared of everything, especially by his chest. He got a week off from the halter while I was gone so he slightly went backwards and was more fearful than usual, but he's becoming better by the day. I can pet him almost everywhere and now pick up his 2 front feet, as well as brush him. He'll come around with time 🥰
Kermit is getting more confident by the day. He's still really hard in the nose when he's not focused tho, but he's getting better. He handles fear much better now too for the most part. Now to fit a saddle and bridle on to this pretty guy!
Kermit is doing wonderful in his training! 🥰 next step will be to add a bit and to see if we can find a saddle to fit him
Nice sunset ride on Paris last night 🥰
Yesterday Kermit got the start to being ponied! I always start by letting them show whatever emotion they want to show, weather that be fear, curiosity, etc. This guy had some mixed emotions, but he naturally has a big fear of horses so this was a big deal for him. Once they either come to me or show signs of getting more comfortable, that's when I start ponying them. Kermit had a few fits at first with not wanting to walk or trying to bolt, but he was starting to get the hang of it after a little bit. We made it out if the round pen as well, but he needs a bit more practice before he'll be comfortable walking near on a loose lead. What a good boy he was though!
I was requested to teach snoopy to trot in hand and his first lesson was so great! He likely won't be a pro in the week i have before he leaves for his new home, but he did great. This is the first time I've attempted to teach a donkey to trot like this because of my lack of time, but he seemed to respond pretty well.
Kermit's first ride with me! All the ground work paid off. He's not even been here a week and he's made so much progress already! I'm excited to see how much he'll learn for his remaining time with me 🥰
Axel is making so much progress! I can almost just walk right up to him and pet him all over. He's still shy around his chest and face and with sudden movement. Today he learned about the halter. I didn't even attempt to put it on, I just want him to be comfortable with it and have no fears attached to it. He has the sweetest personality.
Paris is getting better by the day! She had some pretty big issues with the bit and after only 3 lessons she's so much better. She also got some desensitizing from the flag and lunged for the first time since she got here. We have a bit of work to do, but she is such a cool little mule.
Axel has improved so much already. This sweet guy is very shy around his chest and panicky when there is movement near his neck and shoulders. Yesterday he wouldn't let me pet his neck because my feet were too close to him so I used a flag and waved it under his neck. After his initial panick and attempt to attack it, he finally relaxed and he's starting to relax with me. This little guy was very misunderstood in his last home and with his last trainer so it'll take a little effort to let him know it's ok, but this sweet boy already has the best home lined up when he's done with training!
