Frankie is a stunning, 5 year old, female, Rottweiler. She originally joined MHCR a few years ago. As her adoptive family grew, welcoming 3 kiddos, two of which were twins, Frankie grew uncomfortable with the chaos that ensued. She came back into our care now seeking a home without any kiddos. Frankie has been hard at work on weight loss! She was a whopping 124 lbs!! She’s down to 103 lbs now and is ready to find a forever family committed to helping her achieve her weight loss goals. Ideal weight is likely around 85 lbs so she has a ways to go. Luckily, she LOVES fetch! She will chase a tennis ball around all day long and never tire. She’s a very playful girl and playing is definitely her love language. She seems to do ok with other large dogs – however she’d love to be the queen if someone’s castle. She tends to do better with dogs that aren’t super high energy (which makes sense given her dislike of toddlers). She’s house trained, too! She’s independent (minus playing) and comes for loves but isn’t driven by them. A secure fenced in yard is a must!

Meet Pyper! 🐾💖

Pyper is a 4.5-month-old Border Collie mix with a heart full of love and a zest for life! This playful and silly girl is as sweet as can be and is always ready to brighten your day with her puppy antics.

She’s a fast learner and is already crate-trained and making great progress on potty training. Pyper adores snuggling and will happily follow you wherever you go—she’s the ultimate companion! She’s great with other dogs, cats, and absolutely loves children, making her a perfect fit for a family home.

If you’re looking for a cuddly, joyful pup who’s eager to grow and learn by your side, Pyper might just be the one for you! 🐶💕

Clark is just like his name sake, Clark Griswold. He’s very sweet, but also feisty. Clark absolutely loves playing and he’s always down for a great nap. He’s a true family dog and gets along with kids, dogs, and cats. Clark is approximately 9-10 weeks old and is said to be a Chihuahua/Yorkie mix.

Richie is a 40 lbs, lab mix who is around 6 years old. He’s a Heinz 57 mixture packed with personality! Richie is a retired Houston stray looking for his forever family.

Richie clearly had a human or humans in his life who loved him at one point. He came to us knowing about living in a house, routines and food times. He knows how to walk on a leash, how to take a bath, and how to behave in a crate. He loves to roll in the grass, get belly rubs, and give hugs. He knows ‘sit’, ‘shake’, fetch, loves playing with toys, and loves kids and people fiercely. He’s also quite the talker, not only with his amazing facial expressions but his ‘sass’ when he wants something of his humans 🤣

Ok…now for the not so good. Richie was picked up as a stray with no ID on him and never reclaimed. Then he ended up on a high kill shelter euthanasia list after he went unnoticed by everyone until our rescue agreed to save his life. He was well behaved there and only listed for space/time. Richie had pesky heartworms and recently finished his treatment. He also had many fractured teeth with root exposures and required an extensive dental surgery to remove many teeth to prevent pain and recurring infections. Given he is a well behaved boy in is foster home and in his crate, we can only imagine what he went through in life to damage his teeth to that extent.

Richie is one healthy, happy boy now with no ongoing medical issues. He has a low-moderate energy level and will do well in a variety of home types, but he is a bit dog selective and doesn’t care for dogs larger than him (c’mon, is he really the first man with a size complex). Once he decides he doesn’t like a dog, he’s not really interested in working on the relationship 🤣. He seems to do best with female dogs and he likes ‘em on the smaller side (he’s a cliche, what can we say). He also seems fine with felines. If you like to have your friends and all their dogs over for drinks, he’s probably not your guy. If you live a quieter, calmer life without the comings and goings of a pack of canines, then he’s the one for you! Richie is in foster with Frenchie and he’s in looooove….should you be looking for two.

Like her famous namesake, Bambi is as delicate and enchanting as can be — but don’t let her tiny 5.5 lb frame fool you. This 9-year-old princess knows she’s the star of the show and will happily let everyone know it! Her favorite activities include burrowing under blankets and cuddling with her humans. She’s a low energy gal but she will certainly keep you laughing every single day with her silly antics. She loves the company of her humans and she’s searching for someone who’s home often or willing to take her along on adventures. Bambi doesn’t enjoy being left alone and will let the world know with her tiny bark, so a home without shared walls is ideal for this leading lady.

This little girl came to us from a local shelter with mammary tumors that required surgery. She is now tumor-free and they came back as benign – yay Bambi! She has a clean bill of health – with full blood work and a dental. She does have cataracts, which means she doesn’t see well in low light, so stairs are tricky in dim lighting. But don’t worry—this petite diva is easy to carry. Bambi is a gentle soul who prefers older kids or respectful little ones who understand her boundaries as she doesn’t love to be picked up a lot by little humans. While this girl gets along with calm, mellow dogs, she’d also be perfectly content as the queen of the castle. She’s potty pad trained in her foster home, but carpets can confuse her (hey, even princesses have quirks) and she will need some work in a new home.

If you’re looking for a mellow pint-sized princess with a big heart, Bambi is ready to hop into your life and light up your days.

Hi, I’m Prim! I have the cutest little head tilt around! I’m around a year old and I weigh approximately 55 lbs. I came to MHCR from a really scary shelter in Texas where my time was up. I’m not exactly sure what that means but I don’t think it’s good. I LOVE dog friends of all sizes. I’m a really playful and active girl and my foster sibling helps burn my energy. I also really love to play fetch. My foster mom says I’m a cuddle bug, too! I like to meet new people and I’m really friendly. I’d love to find my forever family soon! Oh, my foster mom says to be sure and tell you that I’m house and crate trained. I guess people like that.

Don’t forget about Henley! She needs you.

Henley came to MHCR as part of a multi-dog group that was surrendered to the shelter in Roswell, NM by a backyard breeder. They were said to be great dane/pit mixes. Sweet Henley never broke 50 lbs – it seems the only thing dane about her is possibly her merle coat. Henley was an extremely shut down pup. She didn’t see much (if any) human kindness in her early days. She gets her confidence and comfort from the canine companions around her. Since entering foster care, Henley has had so much growth. She happily takes car rides now (and gets super excited to go). She also walks well on a leash. She can be found wrestling with her foster siblings or snoozing on the couch after a play session. Henley is crate trained (loves her kennel) and doggie door trained. She’s a one-woman type o’ gal and is looking for a human that also has a slight aversion to other human beings and visitors. When she settles in, she will provide lots of love and comfort, but she finds it difficult to settle into multi-human homes. Multi dog homes? Not an issue! That’s her jam! Henley is 1.5 years old.

Mandy has been overlooked for far too long now!

Our girl Mandy has a little something for everyone! From spots to stripes, Mandy brings all the fun to wherever she is. She LOVES other canine friends after a proper introduction but doesn’t require one in her forever home. She’s approx 1.5-2 years old and boasts house training and crate training on her resume. Mandy would love a home with a yard of her own so she can toss toys and frolic about. She enjoys lounging on the couch while looking out the window when she’s not playing outside. And she’s always down for a huge snuggle sesh with her human. She’s been great with kiddos and strangers she meets, however she sometimes jumps up with excitement. While her breed is a mystery, we think a Catahoula and a Pittie are likely in there, but who can be sure? Mandy is a versatile dog. She’s up for any adventure but won’t drive you crazy if she doesn’t get out and about every day.

Aww Pugsley….the perfect combination of chill, affectionate, rambunctious, 100% foodie and a total lap dog! Pugsley is a great dog and is highly adoptable. In an effort to control his high demand, he has some conditions he asked us to share with you: 1. Your lap must be available whenever he wants (all the time). 2. His bedtime stories must be in your (now his) bed. Easy enough, right?
Pugsley joined MHCR after his family lost their home to the New Mexico floods. Initially he is cautious and he might keep his distance, but quickly he will let you be his side kick. He is food motivated and likes to play. He is good on a leash and loves his walks. Most of all he wants to be with you. Pugsley plays well with other dogs and doesn’t mind cats. He snores (every time his eyes are closed) but he is cute when he does it, so who cares?! Pugs has his bursts of energy and wants to play, but after 15 minutes he will be sleeping like a log. His new humans should be patient with him while he is learning the new house rules. With his big heart, adorable grumpy look and curly pig tail (yes, he does try to catch it, unsuccessfully so far), he is Prince in a shiny, gorgeous, black coat who would love to make you happy for the rest of his life! Pugsley is working on his house training.
