Please meet Foxy! This sweet little girl just wants to be loved. She’s a big fan of cuddles, playtime, and peanut butter filled bones. Foxy is dog friendly and will thrive in a home where human companions are around often. She is largely crate trained, besides some crying, and with continued practice and high value treats, she makes progress each day. Since arriving info foster care, she’s been kept on a reliable potty schedule has proven to be housebroken. Foxy is very driven by affection and she wants nothing more than to please her human. She enjoys playing with stuffies, taking walks, and we are confident when the weather eases up she will be an amazing adventure buddy! So, go on and pick up a few squishy toys, a bone or two, and take this love bug home with you!

We have a teeny little guy with a pretty big problem! This is Frederick, formerly known as Baby. He was surrendered to us on Saturday. Frederick is a 9 week old toy Pomeranian and he has what appears to be a stricture in his esophagus. Frederick is 0.85 lbs and treating him is tricky! He’s at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital today getting top of the line care in hopes we can better understand what’s going on with our little dude. The plan so far is to do an endoscopy - which is a little tube with a camera that will go into his esophagus to take a peek. He may even have a balloon procedure to help loosen up the stricture. If you can drop a dew bucks his way, the estimate for today is approximately $2000.

Trinket is a pocket-sized, Chihuahua mix. She’s approximately 4-5 years old and she weighs about 5.5-6 lbs. Trinket is an easy girl to have around. She likes being warm on cozy blankets cuddled up to other snuggly dog friends. She’s the perfect companion for your lap while you enjoy your morning coffee by the fireplace, too! Trinket is doggie door trained and seems to be fine with free roam when confined to a small room. She also lives with cats and will do fine in a home with feline friends that are accustomed to dogs. Trinket is having her dental the first week of February and will be ready to go home shortly thereafter!

Shaggy Sheena! We just can’t think of really anything to say about this adorable, unique dog. Sheena loves dog friends and we think she’d be happiest in a home with another dog. She’s playful and friendly to strangers, well mannered in a home, and even crate trained. Sheena is around 49 lbs at present, but she has a tad bit of filling out to do and we think she will be a touch over 50 lbs once she’s accomplished this. Despite her assumed breed mix, Sheena has been a shedder while in our care. Her scruffy face puts any circus bearded lady to shame and her oddly human eyes will speak straight to your soul. Don’t miss out on this beauty!

Buck is a stunning, 1 year old, Red Heeler mix looking for an active and fun home! This medium sized guy embodies what all you working dog breed owners have come to love about the breed. He’s smart, loyal, food motivated, and wants to be with his people. And let us not forget to mention – he has the fastest wiggling nub tail in the west! Buck would love a home with a large, fenced in yard and humans that find it as fun to learn new tricks as he does. Buck would love to have his own sand pit so he can bury his toys but that’s not a requirement for adoption. Your flower beds will do 😉. Buck is dog friendly and best suited with dogs his size-ish. He likely needs a feline free home.

The sweetest boy, Goose, is having a major operation today! Goose joined MHCR a couple of weeks ago from a high intake area in New Mexico. When he got his health certificate, it was discovered Goose had Hypospadias. What the heck is that? We didn’t know either! Basically, his urethra didn’t form properly as a wee little embryo. Instead of ending at the tip of his manly bit, it comes out the side. This can cause many long term health issues so it’s very important to get it taken care of right away!

So guess what they do? It’s called a Perineal Urethrostomy. Lots of vowels there. They basically amputate his manly part and reroute his urethra so that he will have similar external anatomy to a female dog. Pretty fancy!

Goose will be spending the next couple of weeks resting and high as a 🪁 to best control his pain. If you can toss a few bucks his way, he’d greatly appreciate it!

His surgical costs are estimated to be around $1100.

Sweet Orphan Annie! This beautiful girl first entered the system in November of 2024. She was a stray, unclaimed and unwanted, from the streets of Houston, TX. Annie caught our eye when we saw her being networked due to being euthanasia listed. So, she made her way to safety and landed in a loving foster home here in Colorado. Annie LOVES love! She’s very affectionate and can be found actually hugging her humans. She’s an amazing snuggle bunny, too! Annie is playful with other dogs and can often be caught snuggling up to Gordon (another MHCR adoptable dog). Once she’s put on the recommended amount of weight, we suspect Annie will weigh around 70 lbs. She’s only around a year old and has her whole life ahead of her to grow with her new family.

Jimmy! Jimmy is a delightful, 7 lbs, Yorkie mix. He’s great with humans, big and small, and really enjoys the company of canine companions. He plays joyfully with the Pekingese in his home and even the Husky and Akita, too! Jimmy is working on his house training and absolutely will not use a leash, therefore, it’s important his forever home have a fenced in back yard. Jimmy is a tiny guy and he’s a master at finding even the smallest open nook in a fence line. His humans must be very aware and pro-active in making sure their fence is secure.

Beautiful Beth is a 6-7 month old, female, American Bulldog mix. She’s a petite girl, around 30 lbs but does have some growing left to do. Beth is very good with other dogs and has won over even the most stubborn dog’s heart. She’s outgoing, friendly, and sweet to all humans she meets. Her favorite spot is snuggled up on the couch with her human and canine friends. Don’t be fooled though – this girl has moves and can get up and run around with the best of them. Beth is doing great with her house and crate training. She first entered the shelter with bilateral cherry eyes and her eyes were very irritated and swollen. She’s being treated for dry eye and it’s unclear if that will resolve on it’s own now that her swelling is down or if she will need to remain on cyclosporine and artificial tears. She takes them both like a champ, though!

Milo is a 1-1.5-year-old, male, Heeler/Lab mix. He’s a very sweet boy that’s around 50 lbs. Milo loves dog friends, romping and playing around, and then snuggling in with a companion (human or canine will do) for a quick power nap. In his foster home, he uses the doggie door to go outside and he sleeps in a kennel next to the other dogs. He’s been around kiddos and he’s done just fine. He’s a young man, so will benefit from a home with a yard and playful dog friend (or two, or heck, even 3). He’d be a great workout partner and would really thrive with some food puzzles and mind games.

Piglet, because a girl by any other name, just isn’t the same. Piglet is a 2-year-old, 10 ish pounds, Chihuahua/Podengo mix by our best guesstimation. This sweetie loves to snuggle. The more blankets and warm legs to curl up in, the better. She is having a great time in foster care with feline friends and is well-suited for a home with them. Like most small dogs, she thinks the snow is the most un-fun thing about Colorado and she’d much prefer a puppy pad than dealing with that non-sense. Piglet is dog friendly but can be a little shy at first. She’d fit in a variety of homes, but probably the less hectic the better for this pooch.

Little mama Lucy is a 2-year-old, female, Terrier mix. She’s got a wiry coat with a funky mohawk that’s simply irresistible. Our breed scanner app says she’s possibly an Affenpinscher mix. Lucy is about 14 lbs. She’s great with dogs, cats, and kiddos. She’s doing beautifully in her foster home and seems to have excellent home manners. Snuggling is her professional job and she kindly requests her forever home have a fireplace to curl up in front of. Lucy is affectionate and active and LOVES to play.

Stitch is a 3-year-old, Border Collie/Newfoundland mix (we think) of the XL variety weighing in at 85 lbs. He’s extremely sweet and loves cuddling with his humans. Belly rubs are his love language. Stitch is a very social guy. He’s great with adults, kids, and strangers. He’s the ultimate adventure buddy. Stitch boasts 12 mile runs, swimming, fetch, hiking, and making snow angels. He’s like the all weather tire of the dog world! Stitch is so smart. He’s crate-trained, house broken, and knows sit, stay, down, leave it, out (drop the ball), and has great recall. He’s a gentleman and won’t jump on the furniture, but would love to cuddle with you on the couch if he’s invited. He is very food motivated (but not territorial over it) so he’s very receptive to positive reinforcement/treat-based training. Stitch is not reactive while out and about, minding his own business. However, he prefers to be the only dog in the home.

The name’s Clanton, and my foster mom says I have the biggest heart! I am cuddly and affectionate and want you to know you will always feel safe and loved with me in your life. I am good with humans and dogs. I have not been tested with cats but have not shown much prey drive. I am a bit aloof and very chill, though do need to have an opportunity to get energy out with a walk or a play session each day. I do well on a leash and do not pull. I sleep with my foster mom in bed and have never had an accident in the house. If you show me what I can and cannot chew, I am happy to oblige and leave the house all pretty like you like it.

I am so smart and want to learn structure and commands so I can show off my intelligence and eagerness to please my humans.

I am neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations. I am also fabulously crate-trained. I do love to play with dogs and would love one to share my life with but it is not imperative.

I’m available for private rehome. You can contact my foster mom via email, [email protected].

Excellent Effie is a 5-6 year old, female, Shepherd/Cur mix available for adoption through DMK Rehoming. She is a loyal, friendly girl and will thrive in a variety of homes. Effie is food motivated, which has made training a breeze. She particularly enjoys food puzzles and has mastered quite a few. She is active and enjoys chasing hoses and balls. Effie is a leaner and when she finds a human she loves you’ll find her planted firmly into their side. When snuggled up on the couch, she is like a living weighted blanket. Effie is commonly seen sticking her tongue out. She’s a goofy dog that will eagerly accompany you on any excursion. Effie is good with male dogs and seeks a feline free home. Please inquire directly with DMK Rehoming for info!

Richie is a 40 lbs, lab mix who is around 6 years old. He’s a Heinz 57 mixture packed with personality! Richie is a retired Houston stray looking for his forever family.

Richie clearly had a human or humans in his life who loved him at one point. He came to us knowing about living in a house, routines and food times. He knows how to walk on a leash, how to take a bath, and how to behave in a crate. He loves to roll in the grass, get belly rubs, and give hugs. He knows ‘sit’, ‘shake’, fetch, loves playing with toys, and loves kids and people fiercely. He’s also quite the talker, not only with his amazing facial expressions but his ‘sass’ when he wants something of his humans 🤣

Richie is one healthy, happy boy now with no ongoing medical issues. He has a low-moderate energy level and will do well in a variety of home types, but he is a bit dog selective and doesn’t care for dogs larger than him (c’mon, is he really the first man with a size complex). Once he decides he doesn’t like a dog, he’s not really interested in working on the relationship 🤣. He seems to do best with female dogs and he likes ‘em on the smaller side (he’s a cliche, what can we say). He also seems fine with felines. If you like to have your friends and all their dogs over for drinks, he’s probably not your guy. If you live a quieter, calmer life without the comings and goings of a pack of canines, then he’s the one for you! Richie is in foster with Frenchie and he’s in looooove….should you be looking for two.
