Homeward Bound Animal Rescue Homeward Bound was founded in 2006. We are a 501c3 rescue. Our sole focus is to save pregnant dogs or new mommies from high kill shelters.

Homeward Bound is a small organization that was formed in November 2006 out of a love for dogs. The group has evolved over the years and has become more focused on the type of rescue work we feel compelled to do. We primarily pull pregnant dogs or dogs who have just delivered their puppies. I was shocked to find out that pregnant dogs are almost always euthanized because they are deemed unadoptabl

e by shelters and there are few rescue organizations willing to take them. And I was appalled when I realized they would throw a pregnant or new mother with all her babies into a gas chamber and kill them. The moment I learned that information I redirected Homeward Bound's path in the rescue world. Since then my sole focus has been pregnant or new mommies. I feel this is where I can best serve in the rescue community. Our mommy dogs are with us for at least three months. In that time, we get to know them very well, and we are confident about the type of home they require to thrive. We also have mommy fully housetrained, crate trained and leash broken. Mommy will be fully vetted, HW neg, and spayed before she goes to her forever home. Our puppies will never know a momment of fear or need when they are born in our foster homes. They are kept in heated whelping nests until they are four weeks old. The pups are wormed every week once they turn two weeks old and will leave our foster care at 8 weeks of age with a health certificate from our vet, minimum of first set of shots possibly more, multiple wormings, and microchipped. Our adoption fees are higher because of the type of rescue work we perform. On average we have to pay for 10 C-section surgeries a year. Those surgeries range anywhere from $700-3600. We also are committed to our mommy dogs, so if they are HW positive or have other health issues, we treat them and get them healthy. We have our mommy dogs for a minimum of three months in foster care and sometimes we've had them as long as a year until we can find just the right home for them. We know them very well and we know what kind of home they need. Our puppies are raised in loving foster homes and get to stay with their mom until it is time to be adopted. These pups came from Mississippi without a mother. There are 6 male and 2 females in this litter. This litter will need owners that are very active and can be sure that the pups have daily exercise. A job would be great for them or even agility training or trained to hunt. Even with their high energy, the breed is playful, loving and cuddly. This litter has had their 3 DAPP's, Bordetella and Rabies, along with Sentinel Chewable and Topical Revolution applied.

HELP!!! We are in need of TONS of must needed items currently. With over 25 dogs just listed and 3 litters coming this weekend in addition to the other pups we already have it is a full house, and we are using supplies like crazy. If you are able to donate just ONE item we would really appreciate it.

MEET CRISSY. He is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!! She is part of the C litter of Australian Shepherd/Shepherd mix pups that came from Alabama without their Mother. There are 2 females and 5males in this litter. They are all Sweet, loving, playful and smart pups. Being an Aussie mix they will have more energy than a regular Shepherd and should be exercised accordingly. Aussie's are good for agility training if that is something you like to do, but outdoor fetch with a ball will do just fine with walks. They will be good walking companions as they get older as well. We expect them to be around 45lbs at adulthood. They are up to date on vaccines and preventatives with 3 DAPP's. Bordetella, Sentinel Chewable and Topical Revolution.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!! Little dude Blinker might be our longest resident. We are in shock. He is doing incredibly well with potty training! He goes downstairs and sits by the door when he needs to go outside to go potty. He is also doing really well with crate training. He sleeps in his crate all night long without a p*ep! He just likes to be close to his humans :) He has also mastered how to “sit” and loves having another doggy friend to play with! Super smart boy.

We NEED KENNELS/CRATES- specifically Small/Medium. DID YOU KNOW- you can donate your used crate/kennel to us! Our fosters use crates/kennels and the ones we cannot use we sell towards our vet bill. We can take plastic or metal.We have a few new fosters starting this week. Please-in good shape- no rust/holes. You can drop off anytime on the porch at 437 Woodcrest Drive, Mechanicsburg.
