When Rufus first arrived, he looked more like a mole rat than a dog—but don’t be fooled! With some tender care, this unique pup has transformed into a handsome dog with a heart as big as his personality.

Rufus has been flourishing in foster care, and we’ve learned so much about him. He may be a bit older, but he’s still got plenty of energy for walks and playtime and he’s just as happy to curl up beside you for a cozy nap.

He’s fully house-trained, food-motivated, and already knows basic commands like “sit” and “stay”!

Though he’s still growing in his coat, Rufus is ready to fill your home with love, joy and lots of adorable dog pajamas.

Rufus is currently in foster care—contact the shelter to set up a meet and greet! 🐶

SOS: The Kennel Chronicles – Teddy Edition 🚨

Alright, folks, it's me, Teddy, and I’ve been living the kennel life for WAY too long. I’ve been here since NOVEMBER 30TH – seriously, that’s like 100 years in dog time. I’m here to say, enough is enough. I’m ready to bust out of here and into your heart.

Picture this: a 57-pound bundle of pure joy and good looks, with a brain as big as my paws. I’ve got "sit" down pat and I’m basically a brainiac when it comes to learning new tricks (move over, Einstein). Butt scratches? Heck yes – it’s my love language, and I guarantee you'll see my goofy grin every time you hit that sweet spot.

Here’s the deal: I’m super friendly, love attention, and walks are my jam. Strap me in a harness and let’s go explore – I’m the best walking buddy you’ll ever have. And if you’ve got a fenced-in yard? Oh, baby, you just became my dream come true. I also crush it at brain games, which is a fancy way of saying I’m super smart and have mastered my impulse control (most of the time – nobody’s perfect, right?).

Now, I get it – I’m a big guy with a big personality. I’m looking for a family who can handle all this awesomeness and maybe some older kids who understand that my "I’m so happy to see you" jumps are just because I’m bursting with excitement. Got other dogs? Let’s meet them first – I’m picky about my squad.

So, if you’re in the market for a hilarious, loyal, and downright adorable best friend, I’m your guy. I’ve been waiting long enough. Don’t make me wait another weekend!

Hit up my people at www.aaha-rescue.org and come get me. Let’s make Friday the start of our forever. 🐾

Dorothy, our 2-year-old girl, may cause excessive cuteness and snuggle attacks! This pretty lady takes her time warming up to new friends, but once she's comfy, she'll shower you with affection (and possibly lots of kisses). When she's not busy being adorable, Dorothy loves to explore and sniff out all the best smells (and snacks). If you're ready for a furry friend who's a little bit quirky and a whole lot lovable, Dorothy's your perfect match! Meet her during adoption hours. Monday-Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3pm.

URGENT - THIRD PLEA: Help Azula and Her 3-Week-Old Puppies Find Peace in Rescue - Calvert County Animal Shelter - Maryland

Bring Peace to Azula and Her Puppies!

I’m reaching out a third time on behalf of sweet Azula, a 3-year-old, 51lb grey Pit Bull-type momma, and her 8 puppies, now 3 weeks old. They’ve been in our care for 21 days, but despite our best efforts, there has been no rescue interest. We are deeply concerned that her puppies may end up growing up in the chaotic shelter environment, which is no place for a vulnerable family like theirs.

Azula is more than just a name—it’s of Spanish and Portuguese origin, meaning "blue," a color that symbolizes wisdom and peace. We don’t want Azula or her puppies to feel "blue" in the shelter. Instead, we are hoping to find them the peace and safety of a loving rescue where they can grow and thrive.

Azula is a devoted mother who deserves the chance to raise her puppies in a calm, nurturing environment. The shelter is simply too overwhelming for her and her little ones.

If you can help bring peace and hope to Azula and her puppies, please reach out as soon as possible. Your rescue could be the light they need.

Azula is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.

Azula, her babies and many other animals in need are available and can be seen on our website www.calvertcountyanimalshelter.com.

‼🐾 Gaston has been at the shelter for 164 days 🐾‼

Borzoi lovers!!
Gaston is a cream borzoi mix, is about 4 years old, and weighs about 90 lbs. No one can understand why. Instead of asking what's wrong with him to be there so long, realize that staff see something special in him for him to still be there.

Let's rally and share and find this dog a home!

Gaston is available for adoption directly from the Charles County Animal Care Center at 6707 Animal Shelter Road, Hughesville, MD. 301-932-1713

Please contact the shelter with any questions about him.

It was a very, very busy holiday weekend and I glad to announce that Raven and Kona have been adopted.

Both will be joining their new families this week after getting spay and fully vetted. Both Raven and Kona found themselves in our local shelter at barely 6 months of age and were two of the lucky ones to make it out.

Welcome to your new journey in life you two, I have no doubt it will be amazing.

PLEASE SPAY & NEUTER YOUR PETS.
